I toured six different daycares for my son in Madera and Larkspur before choosing First Step. My 1.5yr old son has been attending for 3 months - and we are so happy with our decision. My son is so thrilled to go every morning… and regularly cries because he doesn’t want to leave his friends at the end of the day!
We went with First Step because of Meire (the teacher/ head of the daycare). We found her to be incredibly warm and easy to communicate with. The environment she’s created at First Step is happy, loving and relaxed - and she’s always doing fun activities with the kids. We get videos of painting, music class and birthday celebrations - and my son comes home with so many new words.
Finally - her space was the most spacious and well maintained of any of the daycares we toured - with a large yard and indoor classroom.
All in all - I couldn’t recommend Meire and First Step more. We feel so lucky to have found her!

My son joined First Steps when he was 15 months old and he thrives in the love, attention and care this daycare provided. It’s a small home daycare that has built a great little community of moms who take their children there. Healthy meals provided every single day cooked fresh and organic (taking the mental load off meal planning!), he naps well, learnt to share, had a full and interesting curriculum from story time, music classes, to language classes and lots of play. He never wants to leave at pick up and hops out of my arms when we do drop offs. They do an amazing job here! All the kids are so happy and well looked after. Highly recommend.
My husband and I are so happy to have found First Steps. Our son has attended for six months. Every day he is so happy to be dropped off there; he lights up when we walk into the play yard. Meire and her staff create such a nurturing, joyful environment that is focused on play. Meire is very in tune with each child and is calm and flexible- we feel so comfortable and confident with our son being cared for by her. I highly recommend First Steps!
