Would not book cooden cottage again!
☺ The house was a very good size and nicely done and decorated.
☹ Unfortunately on the first night we discovered bed bugs in one of the beds. Although the owners came round next morning to steamclean the bed and bedroom, we didn’t feel comfortable to use that bedroom any longer. Especially as they cleaned it themselves and didn’t get it professionally treated. As according to the owners they didn’t have the bed bug problem before; however claimed to know exactly how to deal with the problem, we didn’t trust to let our daughter sleep in that bed. So she ended up sleeping on the sofa. The property wasn’t cheap and we requested a partial refund. This got refused and the owners stopped the communication with us. Unfortunately also booking.com hasn’t resolved the problem.
For that reason I would not recommend this property.

We are very disappointed to receive such a damning review. Especially after our swift action as soon as the issue was shared with us. Your request for a refund was responded to in line with booking.com’s policies and was reviewed by booking.com independently. This review feels like a reaction to a decision that was not in your favour.
We did not stop communications, we responded through the appropriate channels.
We also did seek professional advice, and were prepared due to the rising and prevalent threats of such occurrence.
As highlighted at the time, you had stayed a night in France (a known hot spot) prior to arriving at our property, and as we had no prior issues, we can’t confidently say where the bug you found came from.
It is disappointing and disheartening as a small family business to have such a response, after the large amount of money spent to rectify the issue (of which the cause is still unclear). We are not a large chain, we cannot swallow the affects of such a terrible review for a situation we dealt with as soon as it was highlighted.

The property was great for our short 2 night stay.
☺ The location was perfect as we had a wedding to go to just a 10 minute walk away. The beach was about a 5 minute walk. The hot tub was nice once we figured out how to use it. Some milk, jam and scones were left for us on arrival which was a nice touch, also fresh flowers in most rooms. It was a comfortable size for the 6 of us and the 3 dogs.
☹ The cleanliness of the property was in my opinion below standard. Some more effort can be made when making the beds. No bed covers were ironed and they were very creased. Not enough towels were left and the towels we did have was very hard. The property could do with some more pans for cooking breakfast. Only one shower which is located in the en suite. The shower over the bath did not work, so everyone had to use the one shower.
Cosy, renovated, well equipped character home near the sea.
We took my elderly in laws for a little break to Cooden Cottage. It was ideal. We all loved it. They loved sitting in the sunroom over looking the pretty garden. Ella and George have kitted the house out with all sorts for guest use. Even puzzles, games and books . We loved the hot tub. Clean, refreshing and comfy. Ella and George have renovated beautifully and the home is filled with furniture and accessories to fit the era of the characterful 1920's home. It's so stylish! Superb location 2 mins drive from the sea, and lots to do in the area. Thank you Ella and George.
We had a wonderful week at Easter at Cooden Cottage. Ella was amazing and even helped us find a lost dog! The house is spotless, and beyond our expectations. The flow of the downstairs through to an amazing kitchen, conservatory and completely fenced garden was perfect for us and our two large dogs and we had several family get togethers in the garden, surrounded by greenery. The beds, bedrooms and bathrooms were excellent with plenty is space. We met Ella twice and it is clear that she is passionate about giving her guests a really special experience, from thoughtful touches to all rooms to a lovely welcome pack. While there, she wants her guests to feel that it is space and she completely achieved that. We felt at home and will definitely be back. Thank you!
Thank you Ella & George for our stay at Cooden Cottage.and our welcome pack 😊Over all a lovely stay by the sea in a comfortable, attractive, well equipped property. The train line at the bottom of the garden was not very busy and the noise not that noticeable.Would definitely consider a return visit.
We had such a lovely time and Cooden Cottage was beautiful in a great location.
☺ Everything! Particularly the light dining room, the well-equipped kitchen and the comfy double beds. And the welcome pack was a lovely touch.
☹ Nothing! It was pretty perfect. A microwave might be useful, but we were fine without one.
