Despite telling us otherwise, they failed to refer our son for his braces. As a result, he is now facing a further two-year wait for treatment. This is completely unacceptable, and what is even more disappointing is their failure to take responsibility for the mistake.

Dear Mr Cooper,
We are sorry to read your review and understand your frustration regarding the wait for orthodontic treatment.
We do, however, feel it is important to clarify that the situation is not a case of the practice simply failing to make a referral. NHS orthodontic referrals are subject to specific clinical criteria and requirements, which referring dentists are required to follow. Where those requirements are not met, a referral may be rejected by the orthodontic service.
As this relates to a child’s confidential dental records, it would not be appropriate for us to discuss the individual clinical circumstances publicly. However, our records document the advice given at the relevant appointments, including what was required before an orthodontic referral could appropriately be made. This was explained to the family, together with advice regarding the next steps.
We have also offered an appointment to review the situation and would be very happy to discuss the records and the advice given in full with a parent or guardian.
We are sorry that you remain dissatisfied, but we do not accept that the practice failed to make a referral that should have been made at that time.
