Colson HGV Driver Training is simply excellent. Rob and John the instructors have a wealth of knowledge and experience, which makes the learning process clear and effective. They are highly professional while also being welcoming and supportive, creating an environment where you feel comfortable and confident from day one. I would consider my self experienced driving vehicles under 3.5t and towing touring caravans for over 30 years so I was tempted to complete a shorter 5 day course other training companies were offering, I’m so glad I went with the expert advice from Colsons and went with there amazing 10 day course, my opinion 5 days is not long enough and I would guess the other training companies pass rate is considerably lower than the comprehensive training provided from the amazing team at Colsons.
My advice 5 days training is not enough provided by other training companies and it will potentially cost you a lot more in the long run, if your going from car to c e class 1 license Colsons 10 days training is what you want.
If you’re looking for top‑quality HGV training with people who genuinely care about your success, Colson is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!

Great place and amazing team, I could not be thankful enough in just two weeks I went from driving a car to a C+E and passed on the first attempt the instructors are great and make it very simple to understand the basic’s as well as constantly working on improving your driving to make you the best driver you can be it the time you have. I have recently completed car to Class 1 training with Colson. I was extremely satisfied with all aspects, and I have no hesitation in recommending Colson to anyone considering driver training services.
These are the reasons why I recommend using them: The trainers are highly experienced and knowledgeable. They know the subject matter in rich depth. They have many years of experience, are able to share with you on all aspects of the course vehicle, legislation, maintenance, what is required in the test, driving, road signs, and other topics. Every question I asked was answered. Information that needed to be given to me, that is, the course material - the knowledge an HGV driver needs, the information the DVSA examiner will expect you to know, is given in a way that is clear, concise, easy to understand, and accurate. The experience they have is vast, and the quality of delivery is excellent.
That experience is delivered in a way that is memorable, impactful, and usable. The tone of voice, the verbal delivery and calming reassurance when paired with decades of experience is confidence-building. Each day I spent with Colson Driver Training, I enjoyed myself, learned something new, and focused on the areas I needed to. I looked forward to attending each day and felt satisfied when I finished for the day. I was given detailed feedback on what I had done and what I needed to work on.
The vehicles you will train in are excellent. Well-maintained, clean, always available (zero maintenance downtime).
All the team members are friendly and approachable, are more than happy to answer any question you have, and immediately put you at ease. They are organised, everything runs on time, and they are able to accommodate problems or changes to plans. This is all done at the same time as delivering very high-quality, consistent content and instruction.
I recommend them without hesitation.
One final note on the individual trainers. The verbal delivery, the inflection, the use of emphasis in a way that is impactful but reassuring at the same time, is one part of my experience that stands out. To get this right, I feel, is a rare skill, but it was shown consistently by Rob and Jon.
Highly recommended, Colsons Driver Training are an extremely high-quality team and a deliverer of training services, and I have no hesitation in recommending their services.
