How do you rate a place you never wanted to say goodbye to?
Zero stars for the heartbreak. Five stars for the food, the people, and the memories. Losing Colonie feels like losing a friend who always took care of us.
Here’s to whatever the team does next—we’ll be cheering you on. Also, to build on a former review... please send recipe for celery salad + mushroom pate :)
I’ve eaten at Colonie countless times — brunch, lunch, chef’s table, outdoor dining, and dinner. And as any New Yorker knows, even when you love a restaurant, you rarely go back regularly. So the fact that I’ve returned to Colonie multiple times with friends, family, and loved ones says a lot — they’re clearly doing something right!
The dishes are well-sized and consistently tasty, and the bread and butter served at the start is always a lovely touch. Service is friendly and reliable, and the atmosphere works for just about any occasion.
I definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time — it’s popular for a reason.
What an amazing 15 year run it has been. Although, I was only around for the last 5 years, I feel so blessed to have Colonie in my life.
I’ve celebrated lease signings, birthdays, parents dinners, cousins brunch, out of towners, friends moving out, engagements, promotions, and anything else in between.
It was the restaurant for every occasion. The perfect crowd pleaser. You could bring vegetarians and not compromise an inch. You could bring foodies or boomer parents and be in good hands.
I will miss Colonie and look forward to what Kone and the team do next.
Let me get some recipes…….. what vinegar do you use for the celery salad? 😉

Andrew, I've never responded to a review, but you've really touched our heartstrings. It's been an honor and a pleasure to be a part of this neighborhood, and we could not have done it without passionate and kind guests like you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. So... the answer is ... Chardonnay vinegar ;)

I'm very torn. I've been to colonie twice, once for dinner a year ago for my birthday, once for brunch for my bday this week. The dinner last year was absolutely amazing! We sat at the chefs counter and I loved all the pastas that we ordered! Brunch this year though was a let down. The service was subpar (server forgot the bacon add ons, forgot the drink we ordered), the food was meh (biscuit was cold, the spaghetti was overly salted, the cold brew tasted like a Guinness???!!!). The mushroom patte we shared as a group was pretty good though.
Overall, I would recommend dinner but not brunch.
Top brunch in the city #1 brunch in Brooklyn for me! I absolutely LOVE their food, the hot biscuits out of the oven are to die for. They are the best I’ve ever had!! And consistently so, been here 5+ times and they are perfection every time. The Turkish eggs are incredible, the flavors of yogurt, and how it’s brought together is a masterpiece. One of my favorite places to eat at.
Every time I eat here it’s a real treat. I’ve only ever sat at the bar but all of the bartenders are very friendly and will let you try the wines (some excellent natural options!) The anchovy butter crostini is amazing, so is the celery salad. You can’t go wrong with any of the pastas either. This feels like the best of early 2010s chef led farm to table dining, but more chic/date night vibes. Highly highly recommend!

This is so lovely to hear. Thank you ❤️
Colonie is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, and the atmosphere makes every visit special. The service is attentive, warm, and consistent, which keeps us coming back time and time again. A special shout-out to Chef Koné for the brilliant menu ideas and thoughtful seasonal changes that make each meal exciting and unique.
Colonie is the bar for any "new american" restaurant I visit. Have been going for 10+ years, always a delicious meal and great cocktails. My only complaint - bring back the brunch duck hash and the duck egg over farro w/ mushrooms at dinner! Two dishes I dream about left the menu when they had a head chef turnover 5+ years ago. Alas!
