I had a brilliant server called Julia, she was so so lovely and helped us so much and accommodated all our needs, when asked she gave me many helpful recommendations especially the puddings! Glad to see how helpful the youth of Wokingham is and how brilliant young Julia is always having a smile on her face! So glad my daughter booked this as my Mother’s Day treat!
Left a bad taste in my mouth before I have even arrived. Called me at 8pm saying I they would cancel my Mother’s Day booking if I didn’t confirm my booking. Tried calling them from 10pm onwards but no answer even though they say they’re open until 11pm. Don’t be aggressive if you’re not going to bother picking up the phone.

As Mother’s Day is one of our busiest days of the year, we contact guests in advance to confirm reservations so that tables don’t go unused and we can offer them to others who are hoping to join us. This year we currently have a waitlist of over 120 guests, so confirming bookings helps us manage this fairly and avoid disappointing people who are trying to celebrate with us.
We did try calling earlier in the week but unfortunately reached voicemail, so we followed up with a message to make sure your booking wasn’t cancelled unnecessarily.
We’re also sorry if you tried calling later and couldn’t get through. While our listed hours are until 11pm (and sometimes midnight or even 1am), if the team has the opportunity to close earlier after service they may do so, like everyone, they also have families waiting for them at home.
We truly love looking after our guests and hope we still get the chance to welcome you and make your Mother’s Day special.

A most excellent brunch date!
We visited on a Sunday morning and although it was busy the service was impeccable, as was the food. A truly lovely setting that we would 100% recommend. It’s a firm favourite of ours and the fact that it’s busy each time we visit just goes to show how popular it is and what a great reputation it has. Bravo team Chalk! We’ll see you soon.

A very pleasant evening with some good food
Afternoon tea
Strange experience where I arrived 20 minutes early for a group booking but was told there was nowhere to wait so could I come back in 10 minutes by the manager. On my return, I could see the manager in the bar area so walked straight in to use the loo before looking for my party, only to be chased down the corridor to be told toilets were for paying customers only. Perhaps a misunderstanding but I think it could have been handled better. Food good, however tea service was unlike all other afternoon teas I have had before where English breakfast served from a teapot which was then taken away from the table. Earl grey was served as a tea bag in an individual tea pot - when I asked for some more the pot was refilled with hot water (same teabag). I highlighted that the teabag hadn’t been changed as perhap it was a mistake and was told that it was intentional but that a fresh pot could be prepared if that was what I preferred. Maybe I am being a bit picky but I didn’t leave with a great impression.

Dear Catherine,Thank you for your feedback, and I’m truly sorry that your visit didn’t leave the best impression, that’s never what we want for our guests.Your booking was for 3:30pm, and we had arranged for the private room to be ready slightly earlier at 3:15pm so you’d have some time to decorate. When you arrived at 3:00pm we were at full capacity, having looked after 208 guests across the morning and afternoon, alongside another event taking place. As we don’t have a separate lounge area, there unfortunately wasn’t any available space in the restaurant at that moment. I completely understand how this may have felt frustrating.Regarding the toilets, we do need to be mindful of who enters the venue as we’ve experienced a few unpleasant incidents in the past. The team member who approached you wasn’t aware you were part of the upcoming booking, but I’m very sorry if this felt uncomfortable, it certainly wasn’t our intention. The safety of our staff and guests, including yourself, is always our priority, and I hope you can understand our position.With the tea service, our supplier had temporarily sent Earl Grey in tea bags rather than loose leaf, and we were awaiting replacement stock. We do offer refills as part of the service, but I appreciate this may not have been what you expected from an afternoon tea experience.Thank you again for taking the time to share your comments. Eightieth birthday lunch at the Chalk Restaurant Wokingham
My Eightieth birthday lunch with friends was wonderful in all respects. The efficiency, courtesy , helpfulness, friendliness, attention to detail, from all the staff concerned was outstanding. My friends all said the same, so they will be recommending Chald to all their friends. A special thanks to Jakup for orgising the day.

Very good lunch, attentive and polite service which was better than I expected it would be for a local town centre restaurant. The care and attention was more akin to what I'd expect in London. Food was good, incredible value for money too. Can't fault it, will definitely go back and would whole heartedly recommend to anyone local. Its great to see a local independent business flourish.
