I recently completed the Carson Dunlop Home Inspection program and couldn’t be happier with the experience. The course material was thorough, well-organized, and practical, giving me the knowledge and confidence I need to move into this career. The support from the education team was excellent — they were always quick to respond and genuinely invested in my success. I really appreciate the extra resources and graduate perks as well, which make starting out feel a lot less overwhelming. I’d highly recommend Carson Dunlop to anyone serious about becoming a professional home inspector.
To give a little background, I spent the last 10+ doing work ranging from small handyman tasks to complete renos and a couple house guts, so I've had at least some experience with most of the topics covered. I'm just over half-way through the course material, and I've been aiming to complete the program in 3 months total. It's a lot of ground to cover; I wouldn't plan on this time frame unless its your full-time occupation. It could be just my age or the fact that I haven't been in school for a LONG time, but I found that the suggested timeframes for each Session were on the light side in terms of hours of work. I often spend 1.5 to 2 times the amount of time suggested. To be fair, they do suggest that you should take more time if you need it. There are a few Sessions that I've completed in less than the suggested time.
I've found the course material in-depth and comprehensive in the Sessions that I've completed to date, the practice reporting is a valuable add-on, the Case Studies are fairly quick but some were a challenge. The online webinars are 3 hours at a time, which occasionally felt a bit long. Tutor feedback has been great; quick, thorough and relayed in a very clear manner. Any feedback I have provided has been addressed without fail, and the
Student Services and Support Coordinator (Ariel) has also quickly reported back on progress/completion of suggestions. I did have some trouble with the 3rd party company that runs the proctoring of the mid-terms and finals, but again it was addressed immediately and resolved in a very professional manner by Ariel.
I really have had a very positive experience and would definitely recommend Carson-Dunlop as an excellent provider of education in the field of home inspections. Without the 3rd party problem (which wasn't really Carson-Dunlop's fault), 5-stars.
