Mike was the one who did the work, clearing the site (a job in itself) and constructing and erecting the new pergola - I still don't know how he did it himself! Excellence throughout.
Our house is Arts and Crafts era. Butlers were recommended by a friend who is an experienced and accredited garden designer. She is not easily impressed.
The project involved the complete removal and reconstruction of a century old and dilapidated terrace at the back of the house, to be replaced with new foundations, a porcelain tiled terrace and three sets of steps. In addition groundwork, preparation and completion of a lower terrace to the side of the house and sourcing and laying some resin bound gravel in a north facing shaded area.
From the start Paul was very helpful in advising on and agreeing materials, scheduling works and ensuring that the various uncertainties were understood so that there were no surprises either with work or cost.
Sharon was really helpful with answers to questions, accurate and appropriate billing and customer management.
The project was scheduled and ran for five weeks in November December. The weather was often foul but the men were universally cheerful, positive, meticulous, tidy and polite. They would always redo any aspect of the work they weren’t happy with even if I couldn’t see a problem. The porcelain edges were all bullnosed on site, the brickwork, grouting and edging are all spot on.
The result is stunning and entirely in keeping with the house.
It has surpassed our expectations and we are utterly delighted. I’ve already asked Paul back to look at a couple more jobs elsewhere in the garden.

We are utterly thrilled with our garden transformation. Butler's have created a beautiful space that inspires us to get outdoors, sit, potter, garden or just ponder. Our new build garden was a desperately sad mud slide and the world's smallest patio - now it's an absolute haven. My office is in the garden and so I wanted to be surrounded by beautiful flowers and inspired by nature. Sharon really caught onto this desire from our very first meeting and leaned into that throughout the process. In fact, the whole team are incredible, down to earth and friendly, extensively knowledgable and super happy to share their knowledge. Many a happy moment has been spent geeking out about design with James, talking plants and flowers with Ness, chatting to the guys as they worked away on the hardscaping and the constant reassurance from Paul throughout :) You really are in safe hands with Butlers, their passion is palpable and it absolutely shows in the end result - we love the space they've created for us, its a wonderful place to be.
My lovely new garden has now been completed. It is everything l invisaged and l can’t wait to start filling it up with plants and flowers. I wanted it to be an easy to manage garden and everything l wanted was incorporated into the plans.l have to say a big big thank you to Graham and Harry who worked so hard ,mostly in awful weather conditions. From the very first meeting with the Butler team we have had a positive experience. The design absolutely captured what we had asked for. We were certainly listened to which was reassuring at the start of a big project for us. All members of the team were polite, considerate, tidy and paid great attention to their work. They were also very considerate of an elderly neighbour who has dementia and were very kind to them when they came to ask about what was happening. The team was flexible and did make some amendments we requested as the work progressed. The plant design team were extremely helpful and we are very excited for spring to see how the plants develop. We have had one or two snagging issues and the team have been very responsive. nothing has been too much trouble. We would certainly recommend Butler Landscapes.
Butler Landscapes have carried out two pieces of work for us. First they did a complete restructuring of our small rear garden. This was a first class job carried out professionally and with least inconvenience to us. We are extremely pleased with the result and have no hesitation in recommending them. Secondly they have replaced an area of lawn. They did thorough preparatory work, removing sub soil rubble left by the house builder, resulting in a much improved new lawn.
Butler Landscapes designed and then built our front garden in 2022 in a very tidy, clean & professional manor which when complete looked beautiful and we have a had lot of people telling us how it has transformed the look of the whole property and asking us who carried out the works. On an ongoing basis and due to our complete lack of any gardening skills at all they also keep it looking in perfect condition by carrying out regular maintenance visits.
We used Butler Landscape for our very large driveway. Paul is so professional and courteous, he really tries to understand your vision.
