I'm a senior citizen on a fixed income and I had a passenger side mirror that was hit by a car when I was parked at Walmart...no note. I bought a new mirror and took my car to Bullet without an appointment. They put it on within 39 mins time. Cost me less than $100. I'm very happy and recommend Bullet Auto repair.

I took my truck to a Ford dealer to get a quote on repairing lifter phasers on my 2018 F150. The quote was $5500. I then called Bullet and they told they have done many of these jobs previously and quoted $4100. Fair price, which makes sense since we all know dealerships charge more than other service centers. I told them that I was going out of town the following week and dropped the truck off at their shop on Saturday evening. I get a call from Bullet on Monday and they said the price was going to be ~$5400. I agreed to have them do the work since they are local to the city i live in, and had previous work done by them with no issues. After the initial quote of $5400 they called and told me the left valve cover was cracked and they had to replace it. The additional cost was ~$450 for the cover and labor. I picked the truck up when got back in town and after driving it over 25 miles I smelled oil burning when I stopped. On short trips I didn't smell the oil burning. I gave them the benefit of doubt and thought maybe the burning oil was excess from the work performed. Once I realized the engine was leaking, I called them and scheduled an appointment for 5 days later. They send me a quote for $795 (labor $555) to replace the right valve cover, saying it was also cracked and needed to be changed. They removed this valve cover to repair the lifters and either didn't inspect the cover properly before reinstalling it or they cracked while installing it. I argued with them in regards to the fact that they just had the engine apart and I shouldn't be responsible for additional labor. They agreed to reduce the cost of labor by 50% which was not acceptable to me. I just overpaid them $343 for the job. Interstate I25's quote was $5500 and they would have replaced both plastic valve covers knowing they are suspect to leaking after removing and reinstalling. I trusted Bullet to do this job correctly and paid them to remove the valve covers and reinstall properly. They did not do the job properly when they reinstalled the right valve cover and are refusing to warranty their work. I drove the truck 400 miles between visits and because of that "many" miles the work was not covered under warranty. Below is a response to my Google Maps review from the owner Stephanie Corbin. "During disassembly, the left valve cover was found to be cracked and was replaced. The right valve cover showed no visible cracks, leaks, or signs of failure, at that time, which is why it was not replaced. We do not replace components that are not failed, or showing evidence of failure..." When I picked up the truck I put a penny on the counter and stated, "Just and FYI, this is the last penny you'll ever get from me". Apparently this was "combative" to them and the owner posted the following to my google maps review. "When you picked up the vehicle, you were combative in the front office in the presence of another customer." Stephanie Corbin. I'll let you be the judge, but I highly recommend not trusting this company with repairs on your vehicles. They do not warranty their work after doing a job incorrectly.

We are truly sorry this situation ended the way it did. That timing repair was a major job, and we understand that after investing nearly $6,000 in repairs, any additional issue is frustrating.

For clarity, during your January repair we completed the following:
*Full system diagnosis and courtesy inspection
*Replacement of timing chains, tensioners, guides, phasers, and all timing-related components
*Replacement of all associated gaskets and seals related to that repair
*Oil change with new filter
*Coolant system service

During disassembly, the left valve cover was found to be damaged and was replaced. The right valve cover showed no visible cracks, leaks, or signs of failure at that time, which is why it was not replaced. We do not replace components that are not failed or showing evidence of failure — especially when customers are already concerned about repair costs.

As you mentioned in your review, you WERE already upset about the increase in cost, though this is very common when we get into a repair and find additional failed components (this would have been similar at the dealership), and why we state on the estimate that estimates are an approximation only. This is also why we submitted a revised estimate to you for your authorization prior to beginning any work--authorization you provided with a digital signature.

Approximately 400 miles later, you returned with a burning oil concern. At that time, the right valve cover was found to be cracked. These covers are plastic and unfortunately known to crack over time due to heat cycling. The right valve cover was not replaced during the original repair, and therefore it would not fall under warranty for work that was not performed.

That said, we still attempted to work toward a resolution:
*We waived the diagnostic fee for the second visit ($185).
*We offered to split the cost of the valve cover replacement 50/50, which would have brought your overall cost in line (at 50/50, just under $400) with what it would have been had both covers been replaced during the original repair.

Our goal was to find a reasonable compromise, not to argue responsibility.

I do, however, need to address the interactions with our team. During both phone and in-person conversations, the communication became extremely hostile. When you picked up the vehicle, you were combative in our front office in the presence of another customer, and that behavior was captured on video. We understand that frustration can happen, but we do not tolerate disrespectful or aggressive conduct toward our staff. Our team remained professional throughout the interaction and attempted to offer solutions despite the tone of the conversation.

We did already respond to the review you posted under our Jessup location--our Brighton shops operate as one entity with shared management, technicians, and standards. Across our Brighton locations, we have earned over 500 Google reviews with a 4.9 average, reflecting the consistent service and long-term relationships we’ve built in this community. We take that reputation seriously and work hard every day to maintain it.

We stand behind the work we perform and the parts we replace. In this case, the timing components and associated repairs were completed properly, and the later failure involved a separate component that was not leaking or defective at the time of service.

We regret that we were unable to reach an agreement and wish you the best moving forward.
