I attended Bret's adventure riding training in Virginia last year and it was excellent. He and Paul Samuelson assessed each rider and geared their demands on the existing skills presented. I later traveled with Bret to Tibet and then to the upper Himalayas of Nepal. Even with unexpected challenges-- landslides, border closings, snow on Mt Everest, Bret was calm and looked out for his "brood." I recommend him and his company.
My trusted source for ADV touring skills and knowledge.
I attended Bret's ADV training 3 years ago in Georgia (Iron Mountain).
It was my first official ADV training I took and it was nothing but amazing despite 2 days of rain. I learned a lot and got confidence to ride off-road on my ATAS.

**Exceptional Training with a Top-Shelf Team**
I just wrapped up Bret Tkacs’ ADV class in Washington and the experience was incredible. The way each day built on the last helped us all grow in confidence, skill—and humility from picking up our bikes 😂 What really stood out was watching both Bret and Paul not just teach but apply techniques right in front of us. It was like getting the lesson *and* the demo, all in one take.
Bret and Paul each have their own style of instruction, which worked beautifully. They might communicate differently, but their goal is the same: building solid fundamentals and making us better, safer riders. Whether it was a technical tip or a laugh in the middle of a dropping my bike in the sand, they knew exactly how to get the message across. It was equal parts serious skill-building and good-humor.
Big thanks to Christina as well—she was the glue that kept everything running smoothly. From coordination to support, she made sure we could focus fully on the training and the experience.
Real training, real riding, real results—and genuinely great people leading the charge. I’ll definitely be back for more.

Thanks for becoming one of the "canary" riders at our new location in Washington 😁👍
The Idaho training was exceptional! Not only are Bret and crew personable and enjoyable (with plenty of humor!), but the foundations taught and developed through learning and application for off-road riding helped to stretch my knowledge and practice in ways that aided in developing confidence and truly understanding the edges of my skills - where I can go beyond, and what I need to work on. It was truly a pleasure, and a challenge to take part in this training. Weeks later, I am still sifting through and applying what I learned during the training. Thanks so much for the experience...I will be back!

I am glad you enjoyed Idaho. It is definitely a destination training opportunity. I wish we have more riders that would make the trip to share the same experience you had.
Bret and his team are true teachers / coaches and explain riding techniques from a perspective of physics which I really appreciated. It made it easier to understand why they were teaching us the necessary body positions for riding.I rode terrain in his Idaho class that was more difficult than anything I've ridden so far. Definitely increased my confidence! This is not a basic class and I found having some prior experience to be helpful in learning the techniques they were teaching. On top of their incredible knowledge, they keep it really fun and supportive! I highly recommend this class if you want to increase your off road riding abilities!

Short summary: Best training for how to ride safely and confidently on a big adventure bike while having fun!
I had 4 trainings with Bret and his team and will come back for more. It’s the right environment for training and having fun!
You will also find that this training attracts very likeminded people. I always make friends here.

I can't wait for our tour in Morocco this winter. We are going to have a blast!
Exceptional Adventure Motorcycle Training - A Must for Any Serious Rider
There are countless adventure motorcycle trainers out there, but Bret Tkacs and Paul Solomonson truly stand apart from the crowd. These two are genuine masters of their craft and riding techniques, but what makes them exceptional is their ability to teach - something that doesn't always come naturally to even the most skilled riders. They are rightfully considered "gurus" in the adventure riding community.
What sets their training program apart is the unique approach: they first establish essential foundational skills, then immediately put you to the test with a challenge ride where you actively apply everything you've learned. It's incredible how quickly the "theory" transforms into practical, real-world lessons that start forming good riding habits.
The progression from nervous beginner to confident rider happens faster than you'd expect, thanks to their expert coaching, patient corrections, and constant encouragement. This isn't just another riding course - it's a comprehensive program that builds both skills and confidence in a way that sticks.
If you're serious about improving your adventure riding skills, this is one program no student seeking knowledge should miss. Highly recommended!

Edwin, your riding was far better than your experience. You have a lot of talent... Good luck on deciding on your first ADV bike, you ride like an experienced off-roader
It was a privilege to attend the Virginia training two weeks ago with Bret and Paul. I have been watching Bret’s videos for years and being able to train in person was an entirely different experience. I left comfortable and confident in being able to ride my GS on a BDR in the future and have the tools now to manage the bike efficiently and effectively- and when I screw up I now know how to pick it up. I’m a firm believer that the more dangerous and challenging a given activity is, the more competent you should be and to seek out great instruction to learn those skills. The implementation and practice is up to me, but I now have more of those tools to use.
Thank you for helping me grow in my riding education!

It was great to have you there Mark.
I recently attended the ADV training class in Greenville, VA. I pushed myself hard in a VERY accepting environment to failure. No pressure from others waiting for you to complete a task as the ride area was wide open and more often than not, everyone could practice at once. Bret & Paul were always at the ready to help in any way. The curriculum, instructors, facility, and attendees made it one of the best weekends on two wheels. I highly recommend it!

We love that you feel that way, we work hard to make sure nobody feels unwelcome regardless of ability, bike or experience
I just wrapped up an unforgettable weekend at the Bret Tkacs Adventure Riding Camp at Penmerryl Farm in Greenville, VA, and I can confidently say—it exceeded every expectation I had!
As a novice ADV rider on a heavy bike, I was initially intimidated and worried this camp might be way above my skill level. But from the moment the training started, it became clear: if anyone can teach you how to master an adventure bike, it’s Bret and Paul. Their experience, patience, and teaching style make all the difference. Regardless of your starting point, you will learn, improve, and gain real confidence in your riding.
Bret's instruction is thoughtful, precise, and rooted in deep experience, and Paul brings a perfect balance of encouragement and good humor. I genuinely had a blast joking around with Paul—he kept the energy light when things got challenging. And honestly, I feel like I could ride around the world with the two of them—and I just might!
Also, I can’t say enough about Penmerryl Farm—what an incredible venue for this kind of experience. The setting, facilities, and atmosphere are just perfect for ADV riders. It’s a place every adventure rider should have on their list.
Whether you're new to ADV riding or have years under your belt, this camp will push you in the best way possible. Highly recommend!

I attended Bret Tkacs’ Adventure Camp in Georgia a couple of years ago, and it was an exceptional experience for developing my riding skills. This course is ideal for beginner and intermediate riders aiming to build strong habits or refine their techniques. The curriculum strikes a perfect balance, blending clear instructor demonstrations with hands-on, real-world riding scenarios that make learning engaging and practical. Bret and his team are patient, passionate, and true educators, fostering a supportive environment. The class size was just right, allowing for personalized attention while creating a fun, camaraderie-filled experience with fellow riders. I highly recommend Bret Tkacs’ Adventure Camp to anyone looking to elevate their riding, and I’m eager to return for future classes to further hone my skills.

I attended the ADV camp in Virginia. This was an amazing course. Bert and Paul covered a lot of different techniques, and we had plenty of time to practice each of these. We didn't spend time waiting in line to practice a technique, we were either getting group instruction or up on the bike practicing, with occasional individual instruction as necessary. The camp format added quite a bit to the experience, as we got to spend a lot of time interacting with each other, as well as with Paul, Brett and Christina, in the mornings at breakfast and in the evenings around the fire pit. I'm glad I stuck around for the Sunday ride, because we covered some topics that we couldn't have at the farm, including some that are impossible to cover in a video.

Thanks for sharing. I do love the unique environment offering in Virginia.
Just wrapped up an ADV training camp with Bret Tkacs and Paul Solomonson at Penmerryl Farm in VA... it was a fantastic experience and I was able to take on many challenges I wouldn't have dreamt of previously (sometimes working through failures to finally reach success). They have a cerebral and astute approach to training that provides the 'why' behind what they are teaching rather than just directing to do it a certain way without explanation. Had a great time and look forward to taking more courses with them in the future.

Thanks for coming to learn and play with us Nate... Thanks again for letting me print your tires
Bret and his team’s camps represent my top adventure riding investment. Although the training has specific goals, unplanned learning opportunities arise during the course. The ever-changing terrain and weather in adventure riding demand adaptability; a sound foundation of skills and knowledge is key. Bret and his team absolutely provide you with that sound foundation and exceed expectations.

Bret’s teaching style is methodical and well thought out. At first it didn’t seem like the exercises were related to one another but by the end of the first day or the beginning of the second everything started to make sense. I will need to spend some time practicing what I e learned in order to make them second nature, but I can say without a doubt I came home a significantly better rider than when I left. Thanks Bret, Paul and Greg. You guys were awesome and you made it fun.

I am very impressed. Very good methodology and explanations. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I live as far away as Eastern Europe, I am unable to participate directly in Mr Bert Tkacs' training. Nevertheless, the material available on social media platforms has allowed me to significantly improve my driving technique which has an invaluable impact on my safety when driving. Thank you again Mr Bret. You have saved more than one health, and perhaps even a life, thanks to the publicly available training material. Best regards, Greg. Poland.
