Hi Michelle, we are very sorry to hear about your experience. Safety is paramount to us here at Black Mountain Adventure and we take your concerns very seriously. We would like to assure you that we do try to ensure our canoe hire trips are run as safely as possible adhering to strict operating policies, however, given the environment and nature of the trip there is always an element of unforseen risk on the river. Therefore, with this in mind we do try our best to outline on our website, on our waiver forms and where possible, that experience is required in order to take part in our canoe hire. We also try to provide as much information as possible about the trip along with advice on suitable clothing & footwear for the activity prior to arrival. For individuals who do not have suitable paddling experience for the river, then either a guided trip or our alternative route on the Brecon canal would have otherwise been advised, and i believe this was initially offered prior to booking before understanding that your group were experienced sea kayakers. We are sorry about the issues you had whilst on the water and for the time it took for our instructor to reach you with replacement equipment for the items that had been lost, before he continued to guide you downstream to the landing point. Although we try to get on the water as quickly as possible, with there being very few access/egress points along the river this does present restrictions. However, we are pleased to hear one of our fellow local operators was able to provide a little assistance during that time as we do all try to work as cohesively together as possible. With regards to the dry bags hired, these are new into rotation and we were unaware of this on the day but these have been removed for inspection for any faults, so thank you for bringing it to our attention. We value your concerns and will be taking these in to consideration to see where we can make improvements to our future canoe hire sessions.
