We love Beck's so much, and highly recommend it--if you're on the fence, just try it!
We started going to Beck's along with about a half a dozen other activities these last 6 months just to see which ones our young daughter would be interested in doing long-term. It was great that they had 10 classes for $10, which is much better than a single free class that doesn't give a true feel for what the commitment and interest will be like over time. Much to our surprise (and delight!), her time in taekwondo is her favorite and she has shown little sign of fatigue as the "novelty" has worn off. Some days are better than others, but she overall loves it. Here are some of the things that we love:
(1) The monthly fee is like a gym membership, where they can come to as many classes as they would like, so our daughter is able to go 4 times per week for her rank/age, which helps to build the discipline/repetition versus 1x or 2x per week. The monthly rate is better than other martial arts in town, and comparable with other enrichment activities like KidStrong, School of Rock, etc. but for more instruction. Importantly, there was NEVER ANY PRESSURE to sign up; there was no contract, and all they ask was 30 days notice if you will discontinue classes, which I think is reasonable.
(2) There are various instructors, and all of them are great in different ways. I personally like Mrs. Beck the best because she brooks no BS from the kids, even the little Tigers--she keeps them focused and in line! But she is still kind and the kids respect her. There are also student leaders/instructors who are high-school aged kids, which is nice because it shows their progression over time, and the young kids get accustomed to learning from other experienced [older] kids. (Runa loves Grace the most, but she thinks Mr. Bill is cool, too.) And I love that all of the instructors know all the kids by name and greet them as they come to class.
(3) Communication is superb. We get a weekly email with what's going on that week that's concise but clear, with enough reminders from week to week that I feel like I know what's going on. And they are responsive to email when the need arise for a random question.
(4) Testing happens every 8 weeks or so, and students need to earn their promotions. If they are not ready for promotion at the discretion of the instructors, they will not be invited to test. This is unlike some places that are more like "black belt mills" that guarantee promotion within a certain time frame. This feels more disciplined/meritorious, and I see a real sense of pride in our daughter when she earns her promotions.
(5) There is a good balance between TKD form, general fitness/cardio/calisthenics, and didactic instruction. I enjoy listening in on some of the "lectures" that get sprinkled into the classes, because part of our interest in TKD in the first place was helping to raise a balanced young woman, and she needs to hear some of these things from someone other than her parents.
(6) Beck's supports our community. I have seen where they have done community service activities or sponsoring fundraisers for local organizations. I definitely love seeing our local businesses integrate themselves more fully in where we live. Call it "giving back" if you'd like, but I just think it's the right thing to do when you are part of the community, and it makes me happy to see them make these deliberate efforts.
(7) The online platform makes payment (including recurring payment) really easy, even for credit cards. And we can buy uniforms and merch online easily, too.
There may come a day in the future when our daughter doesn't want to do taekwondo anymore, but I hope it's far in the future, if ever. And we will still be loyal supporters of Beck's even after she leaves!

Thank you so much for such a descriptive insider’s view. We’ve built this program the ways in which we would like to experience it if we were students and parents looking for a great lifestyle activity. We’re very grateful it works so well for you and we’re so happy to have you as part of our school community. - Master Beck
