Mr. Barton brought us in a fancy office in downtown town San Antonio, told us he was going to represent us and promised he would get the outcome we desired. After the meeting, he Took our money and we never saw him again. We were represented by Mario Moreno a lawyer who I would not recommend, he works so close with the prosecution, that you can’t tell which is representing you. My son signed for probation against my advice and that is his choice. However we were lied to about who would actually representing us. Trust me, if he would have told us Mario Moreno was Representing my Son, I would have said, thank you for your time. And I think they knew that all along.
Well our experience was not worth $10,000. Please do not be afraid to ask who is representing you, do not take it for granted and the min, they say, oh my associate is going to take care of some preliminary things for me, that is code for, thank you for your money, “he” will take it from here.
God bless all of you who are going through these types of issues, I felt it important to share.
Please see attached photo of email giving
Mr. Barton notification of not wanting Mario to represent us. And all of this lead to what transpired today. Unacceptable.

I had a phenomenal experience with Barton and Associates. After dealing with a lot of stress during my first charge, I was able to find some peace in the situation knowing that I hired Barton and Associates, and knowing that Mario Moreno was going to be my attorney.
I knew that he was a phone call or email away, and would answer any questions that I may have. With him on my side, I was able to have a positive attitude and be hopeful for whatever my outcome may be. He was able to lessen my charges which I am immensely grateful for.
I will recommend Mario Moreno, and Barton & Associates to anyone who may need a great, attentive, attorney. I’m so glad I made the right decision to come with Barton and Associates.
To Mario, Gary, and Amanda, thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for taking such great care of me.

I hired Gary Barton at Barton & Associates after a charge for a family member that had me genuinely worried. He is a former prosecutor and board-certified in criminal law, and that showed. He walked me through what the state would likely do, what my options were, and what was realistic. Communication was consistent, court dates were handled without surprises, and I never felt left in the dark. Five stars for professionalism and preparation.
If You or your loved ones are in need of the Best look no further!!!
Gary and Mario from Barton !!!!
Thank You and God Bless 🙏☮️🙏

The only time I received quick responses was when they were taking me on as a client and collecting my money. After that, I went weeks and sometimes months without responses. I feel like I was baited and switched because what I was told they could do for me never happened. My divorce has dragged on for over a year with little to no progress, and I have spent a ton of money in the process. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this firm.

I cannot say enough positive things about Kandyce Palamarchuck and the work she did for me through Barton Law Associates. From the moment she and her staff became involved, I was incredibly impressed by her tenacity, focus, and ability to get things done quickly and efficiently. She took ownership of the situation, stayed on top of every detail, and made me feel like I finally had someone in my corner who was determined to get the job done.
Kandyce is extremely knowledgeable about the law and clearly has a tremendous amount of experience in the courtroom. Walking through the courthouse with her, it honestly felt a little like walking with a celebrity — everyone seemed to know her, and it was obvious that she is well known and respected by the people she works with. That level of experience and familiarity gave me a great deal of confidence.
Beyond her legal knowledge, Kandyce is also very personable, easy to talk to, straightforward, and genuinely enjoyable to work with. She has a great ability to explain things clearly while keeping everything moving forward. I always felt like she understood exactly what needed to happen and was focused on getting results.
I am extremely satisfied with the work Kandyce did for me. Anyone fortunate enough to have her handling their case can feel confident that she will take care of business. I would highly recommend her and am very grateful for everything she did for me.

⭐️ 1/5 — Horrible Experience. I Would Not Recommend This Firm.
My experience with Barton & Associates was an absolute disaster from beginning to end. Gary Barton was very quick to speak with me when they were trying to get me signed on as a client. Once I became a client and started experiencing problem after problem with the firm, however, I never heard from him again.
Communication was practically nonexistent. My first paralegal was so problematic that I was eventually switched to another paralegal, but unfortunately, the experience did not improve. Phone calls went unreturned. Emails went unanswered. I repeatedly tried to get information about my own case and felt like I was constantly chasing the firm for basic communication.
Even more concerning, once an amicus attorney became involved in my case, my own pleadings were not provided to the amicus attorney. My case was also transferred from Bexar County to another county, and I did not see the appropriate follow-through to make sure everything related to my court proceedings was properly transferred and handled.
The worst part was discovering that I had a court hearing I DID NOT EVEN KNOW ABOUT. Barton & Associates did not notify me. While I was in the process of seeking new counsel, my new attorney’s office was the one that informed me that I had a hearing THE NEXT DAY. Thankfully, I had new representation by then. My new counsel accomplished more for my case in approximately one hour than I felt Barton & Associates had accomplished in weeks.
Despite the lack of communication, there certainly seemed to be no problem billing me for calls and emails—even when I was calling and emailing because I could not get answers.
I was also extremely disturbed by communications concerning me between the firm and the amicus attorney. Statements were attributed to me that I maintain were completely false and inconsistent with what I had actually said. I found this incredibly upsetting, particularly because these communications involved my character and a case involving my child.
Family-law cases are stressful enough. A client should not have to worry about whether their attorney’s office will return a phone call, answer an email, communicate important court dates, provide relevant filings to an amicus attorney, or properly follow through when a case changes counties.
Leaving Barton & Associates and obtaining new counsel was the best decision I made during this process. The difference in responsiveness, organization, and attention to my case was immediate.
Based solely on my personal experience, I would never recommend Barton & Associates. I expected competent representation, communication, and follow-through. What I experienced instead was frustration, poor communication, repeated problems, and a complete loss of confidence in the firm.
*EDITING THE REVIEW I WAS ENCOURAGED TO MAKE BECAUSE MY ATTORNEY SAID THE PARALEGAL WAS FEELING DOWN*
Really disappointed in the outcome of deciding to use this law firm to represent me in my custody modification/enforcement.
When I met with Gary Barton for my consultation in November of 2025, he was very convincing that he and his firm could get what I was asking for, an enforcement and a modification, with the initial retainer of $5,000. I had countless police reports of denied parenting time from the other parent, significant truancy reports, and strong examples of parental alienation.
My attorney, Desiree Marshall, was working back and forth between Bexar County and Harris County. She constantly referred to Harris County when it came to certain things in my case. "They wouldn't mess around with stuff like this in Harris County. In Harris County, judges don't like this kind of behavior. This is how they would handle this situation in Harris County, I'm not sure how they do it here". Unfortunately, her lack of experience in Bexar County left me feeling severely under represented. Every single court date that was scheduled, I would be sitting in the presiding court without my attorney because she was double booked every time and still with her other client. At no point did I ever feel informed or confident in what was going on. She would advise me on one thing while at the courthouse, and then would completely flip to a different position the very next day, contradicting of what she was advising me the day before and the process we were taking.
In a total span of 10 months, I saw a judge two times. But only because the the opposing counsel needed to reset due to not receiving communication to her "new email" and secondly because the amicus attorney that was appointed to my case was requesting a two week reset due to lack of other parent making my kids available to him.
After months of almost nothing, all that transpired after retaining this firm was being advised to agree to temporary orders that awarded me less time than I was currently ordered under standard possession. With ample evidence of the alienation occurring, which both attorneys initially said was very strong, my attorney still advised to go her route and if I requested we present to the judge anyway, said that if things didn't go our way it would all be my fault and I would have to sign a waiver agreeing to that. How am I supposed to feel as someone with no experience in a courtroom? So of course I went with her "professional" opinion.
I regularly had to reach out to the office manager, Lauren, for the many complaints I had from the start with a huge lack of communication, multiple orders being filed that were inaccurate because I was never asked to confirm before it was filed, resulting in being charged for multiple amendments and multiple delays in my case. There was always a pass off of blame because they constantly changed paralegals on my case.
Fast forward to today, I've paid $10,000 to this firm to do nothing but get me less time with my kids. They did complete ONE enforcement, that opposing cousel agreed to. I recently sent a "request to withdraw" letter to the office manager while having a known balance of $1,272.54. Today 9/18/2026, I received an invoice from the firm's billing specialist with a balance of -$252.46. So it's costing me $1,525 to fire them from my case.
I will leave it at this and hope that if you're looking into using them for your custody battles, I DO NOT RECOMMEND. If you read other reviews, they seem to have great criminal case attorneys.
PLEASE TRUST THE REVIEWS YOU READ ON THIS FIRM. I wish I had done so as some, not all, feel very relatable in my experience as well.

A heartfelt advocate in tough times
"As a mother, there are very few things more terrifying than watching your child go through something that could completely change the course of their life. When my son was falsely accused, our entire family was scared, overwhelmed, and unsure of what the future was going to look like.
From the beginning, Barton & Associates made us feel like my son was more than just another case. His attorney, Mario Moreno, took the time to listen, answer our questions, and make sure we understood what was happening every step of the way. As a mother, that meant more to me than I can put into words. When your child is facing something this serious, you want someone beside them who genuinely cares and is willing to fight for them, and that is exactly what we felt we had with Mario.
I watched my son go through one of the hardest periods of his life, and I also watched Mario stand beside him through it. He gave our family confidence during a time when there was so much uncertainty.
In the end, my son’s case was dismissed. The relief and gratitude I felt hearing that is something I will never forget. Mario helped give my son the opportunity to move forward with his life, and as his mother, I will always be grateful for that.
I would recommend Barton & Associates, and especially Mario Moreno, to any family looking for an attorney who will take their case seriously, communicate with them, and truly stand beside them during one of the most difficult times of their lives."
