I first found Algarve House Hunters online when I was looking to buy a property in the north of Portugal. I wanted an exclusive buyer's agent in Portugal who would represent my interests throughout the buying process, and I couldn't have made a better choice.
From the very beginning, Luchia Charles was exceptional. I travelled to Portugal for three days of viewings, and although we didn't find the right property during my visit, she continued searching and arranged video viewings once I returned home until we found the perfect property.
Luchia then guided me through every stage of the purchase. She helped me obtain my Portuguese NIF, arranged property evaluations, introduced me to a lawyer who acted under Power of Attorney to sign the CPCV while I was abroad, and kept me informed and educated throughout the entire process. The entire process was very pleasant and I felt secure working with Luchia.
When I flew back to Portugal to sign the final deed, Luchia accompanied me to ensure everything went smoothly. Even after completion, her support continued. Luchia found our home within a few hours of us making contact. This is because AHH have what they describe as "secret properties" but what I like to call "off-market properties." These are properties where the Vendor does not want to advertise on the open market, but are happy for AHH to arrange viewings if their property meets the criteria of a potential buyer. This is what happened to us - we hadn't even completed any forms - we had simply had a call where we had explained what we were looking for. Luchia understood our brief and was able to take us straight to our new home the very next day! Within 3 weeks our survey was done, deposit paid, CPCV completed, and we had agreed a completion date.
However, what makes the team at AHH extra special is that they understand what you need both BEFORE and AFTER you buy your property - which Lawyer to use, which Builder, which Bank etc etc etc. They don't just find your new home - they make the journey as stress-free as possible - and their advice is invaluable. It's a really big deal to up sticks, leave your home, and set up home in another Country where you don't know anyone, and don't always know "how things are done." We were thinking of selling our home in Portugal but wanted complete privacy and didn't want it advertised online. I recommend Algarve House Hunters as a trustworthy and kind group of buyers agents who helped us to navigate the complexities of purchasing a house in the East Algarve Portugal. Rebecca and Karen were with us every step of the way in spite of a tricky situation with a real estate agency who temporarily blocked access to their listing and then did not fairly split the commission with them; this stumbling block did not deter their support of us. They also connected us with a good lawyer and a house inspector as well as recommended contractors for works after we bought the house.
Overall, I recommend using a buyers broker instead of a real estate agent. You will be exposed to homes on and off market rather than be wedded to a single agency, and Algarve House Hunters are also very good at remote support, providing videos of homes as well as live video walk-throughs if you cannot be there in person.

I honestly don’t know what we would have done without the help, knowledge and expertise of Rebecca Charles, Karen Stanley and Marcio at Algarve House Hunters. They have all been instrumental in the rather complex process of buying a house in Portugal.
We are a British couple who work remotely and its always been a dream of ours to own a house overseas. This reality is finally coming true, and we couldn’t have navigated the process without the amazing team at Algarve House Hunters.
Whilst we actually found the property ourselves (we are in the Algarve for a few months and have been looking for a year, so had a good idea of all of the properties we liked and didn’t like), but when we found ‘the one’ Rebecca and Karen were with us every step of the way; from the initial viewings, to dealing with the sellers agent and taking the time to research the area and make sure that this property was exactly what we were looking for.
They were also involved in the negotiations, guided us through the valuation and the signing of the promissory contract – in fact, they were there handholding us every step of the way, explaining and clarifying everything that we needed to know and understand before we went ahead.
Their expertise came in particularly useful when the valuation of the property came in lower than expected and lower than the market rates in the local area. With their help and the help of our fantastic bank manager and lawyer in Tavira, we were able to dispute the valuation and give examples of many other properties that had sold for more than the valuation we were given.
This insight and the facts have helped us and our bank go back to the valuation company to see if they can revisit this. If they can’t review it, then we do have the option for a second valuation, however this could be a risk. The reason I am including this part on my testimonial is because – we would not have know that this was possible without their help and guidance. They have been intrinsic to every step of the process. Marcio has helped hugely with the valuation part of the process - as he used to be a valuer / surveyor himself before being a business partner at Algarve House Hunters.
And the icing on the cake – the whole team are very friendly and professional. We met other clients of theirs (past and present) at their recent client lunch event. Everyone we met has been so complimentary about the team and their services. It was great to see and hear.
The good news is that you don’t pay for their services yourself. They earn their income from the seller’s estate agent and they negotiate this without you the buyer getting involved.
For those people who are based overseas and don’t have the time to spend researching the local area – they will do this on your behalf and when you arrive in the Algarve for your viewings trip, they will do everything possible to arrange all of your viewings in the time that you are here. I don’t doubt that this part of their service is absolutely invaluable – especially for those who don’t have the time or the inclination to do a lot of the research that is required (fortunately for us, my husband did but it took about a year!). They will spend time with you, understanding what you want and don’t want from your new property and surrounding area. As they know the areas well, they can guide you to make sure you are making the right choice for your lifestyle.

Algarve House Hunters made what would have a daunting and tedious task an enjoyable experience.coming from the U.S.A I had little experience with Portuguese Real Estate, after contacting Algarve House Hunters, Rebeca Charles contacted me and started setting up video chats while I was still in the U.S , through the video chats she was able to determine my likes in dislikes on various properties, upon arriving in Portugal, Rebeca and Karen Stanley were there with a list of properties to view, talk about hitting the road running!
