I started on the weight loss program about a year and a half ago. I have lost over 75 pounds and become much healthier. I still have things to work on but the staff at the age management clinic is absolutely fantastic.

AMC was my first experience with HRT outside of my OBGYN office. I was very excited to start because of all the benefits. However, I was hugely disappointed. I should have educated myself prior to starting but I didn’t. I relied on the staff to educate me. Anita raised my T way too quickly and I experienced terrible side effects. Vellus hair all over my body, including my forehead and cheeks and every inch everywhere else. Black hair on my face, my stomach, male pattern hair loss (I have since loss over 70% of my density), acne, body odor, dry eyes, hair on my hands and fingers, inside of my elbows, etc..
My DHT was never checked, I had to ask. Per my own research all of these side effects are from excess DHT. DHT was never even mentioned to me. I found out about it on support groups online and independant research.
As I addressed my concerns to her, I was basically blown off. I was told the level of T I was on was not enough to cause the side effects I was having. Then when I noticed my male pattern hair loss I messaged again. I was told that if I am getting so many side effects, I should immediately stop using T. I didn’t want to do that because I also learned on my own that stopping abruptly will cause worsening hair loss. So I started to taper down on my own. And I requested my DHT level be checked.
Once I was at my much lower level. Half the dose she prescribed me, I got it checked. I felt better. However she checked it during my trough, instead of at my peak which is when it should be checked to truly see how high it is. She did not want to check it again at peak.
And at one point she told me I would have to find a new doctor if I continued to do my own research because she has helped hundreds of women and I was questioning her by doing my own research. When she was on vacation I asked if anyone else in the office could speak to me since I needed help so badly making decisions about my dose. But even though others work there no one did. So I learned if your provider is on vacation, you are on your own until your provider returns. No one will take “on call” during buisness hours.
At that point I started to look for a new doctor. I found one. And she is wonderful. She immediately checked my DHT at peak. (48 hours after injection). She answered my questions. And unfortunately many of my side effects probably will not reverse fully. But my hair is growing back. I still have all the benefits of HRT and I feel great on half the dose.
I had to do it all on my own. Anita was never there to help, instead she blew off my concerns because the dose I was on should not have caused those issues. But guess what, it did. It ws a terrible experience and I woudl high reccomend no one go to AMC. You will be left on your own to answer questions and concerns. And there is no support at all unless you say you feel great.
Initially I felt great before the side effects started in. And when I did, she was happy and attentive. Once I started to get side effects that were not normal everything changed and I felt shamed for not wanting to stop the T all together. But through my own research I learned how much that would increase all my side effects because of the quick drop in hormone level.
Find yourself a provider that cares more. That will listen more. And one that will support you. Find a provider that is not so stuck on what she thinks she knows and is more willing to listen to the care you feel you need because you know your body best.
I don’t want to see any more women go through these maculating side effects alone.
