Hello CoCo. I'm not pulling up a patient in our system by this name. Can you please call our office? You can ask for Dr. Schauer. If we've missed the mark on something, I'd like to know about it. We can't fix problems if we don't know what needs to be fixed. I look forward to hearing from you.
Absolutely friendly people working at Vision Source. Couldn't ask for a better optometrist than Dr. Schauer. They are and will be our vision source.

Wow, thank you for the amazing feedback! We are so happy we were able to provide you an exceptional eye exam experience. It is always a pleasure to see you in our optometry clinic.
My annual eye exam is always an excellent experience with Dr. Danielle Dyke. The exam is always thorough, and Dr. Dyke takes the time to explain my eye health in a way I can understand. The Vision Source eye clinic is modern, clean, and the staff is very welcoming. I always feel comfortable and well-cared for at my appointment. I highly recommend Dr. Dyke and Vision Source!

Thanks Jake! We work really hard at making sure our patients understand what we are doing and why we are doing it. We are happy to hear we were able to achieve that for you! Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback.
I've gone to this place pretty much my entire life and never had any issues with Dr. Schmidt. Dr. Aberle is also a pretty cool guy since I've seen him a few times after Dr. Schmidt retired.
My problems stem from the last few times I had been there and I decided to go somewhere else. The first issue is with the retina scan. The scan has always been available as an option but isnt covered by insurance and therefore I took the option to opt out of it and never did it even though it was like $25 in the past. For some reason, the last time I went in the price of the scan was now more expensive AND is for some reason now mandatory. I told the receptionist I dont want that done. She said not to take it up with her and take it up with the doctor. Now this was my first time there since they remodeled and made additions so I wasn't sure of all the test equipment. The first test they did was the retina scan which I explicitly told them I didnt want. The tech who ran the test was as apathetic as the receptionist; both seemed to hate their jobs. At the end of the appointment I got charged for a test I didnt consent to. I can only imagine its now mandatory because they need to pay for those additions to the clinic.
My other issue was when I called about an eye issue a family member was having. I asked if I should bring her to Vision Source or a medical clinic. They told me to bring her to VS since "a physician would just send her here anyway."
I braught her in and over the course of the 15 minute visit, Dr. Schauer decided there waa nothing they could do for her and we were referred to the Dakota Eye Institute. I later got a bill for that visit for around $355. The Dakota Eye Institute that actually treated us only billed us $150. When I called about the bill I must have gotten the same apathetic receptionist because after I asked her if she thought that bill was high she said "Yeah...seems like it," and then said nothing else.
So anyways; Dr. Schmidt was awesome when he worked there. Dr. Aberle is a kind knowledgeable person. The facility is nice. But I won't be going back because since the remodel and additions they seem money hungry and I have an aversion to giving my money to people who don't seem like listening to and caring for patients is their top priority.

That's terrible you had numerous poor experiences. One of my managers will still be reaching out to you. I would also be more than happy to talk to you myself.
Regarding the retinal picture, we have offered this service since 2008. I do see for yourself that you never had a retinal picture until your last visit in 2024; nor did your wife until 2025. Over the last 18 years, we have learned how valuable these photos are for a lifetime of eyecare and how important they are during the routine eye exam. We are less likely to miss pathology by utilizing this technology and it allows for serial analysis over time. A good comparison analogy would be x-rays taken at the dentist. You can always opt out of the photo by speaking to the doctor. Our technicians are instructed and trained to take the photos during pre-testing so they are available to the doctor to view during the exam with you. As far as insurance coverage, your insurance plan actually does cover a “routine retinal screening” if you read your plan details. It is subject to a copay. We charge less than the copay which saves our patients money.
Regarding your visit for your family member, it looks like she was seen several years ago in 2023. As we still do, we take same-day urgent appointments for many types of eye issues. We have the diagnostic equipment available, such as a slit lamp biomicroscope, to properly evaluate the eye structures. We always recommend patients see us for eye issues rather than the emergency room or general urgent care clinic. At the time, the best treatment course for your family member was a referral for surgery consultation. Office visit codes are determined and billed based on several factors per CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Evaluation and Management Visit Guidelines). Your daughter was a new patient to our clinic and new patients do carry higher fees. While visits can be billed on time, they are usually billed based on the medical complexity, as it was in this case. We correctly submitted the claim to your medical insurance and it appears that your insurance applied the charges toward your deductible.
For clarification about the remodel, we did not raise prices because of the remodel. We also did not change our policies because of the remodel. Price increases are evaluated twice per year based on insurance compensation and market value and I have done that since I became the owner in 2014. For curiosity sake, did you know that your vision insurance pays us the exact same dollar amount for an eye exam that they did 25 years ago? If you review your EOB (explanation of benefits) from your insurance company, you will see exactly what we are compensated.
We believe in providing the best quality eyecare for our patients and we will continue to do so. “Money” has no part in any medical decision we make for our patients. We’re not thinking of you just today; we are thinking of taking the best care of your eyes for a lifetime. Based on your reply, it sounds like we have provided good care to you and your family but you are unhappy with our fees. Again, I welcome a phone call if there is anything that I did not explain well.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brittany Schauer, owner
