We found Tat Wong Kung fu Academy through a friend of ours. The Sifu/teacher John is wonderful and very inclusive. My son loves the classes, and doesn't like missing a single one. The price for 4 classes a week is a great deal. You can do all or pick and choose. We are treated like family. I definitely recommend this school to kids and or adults.

I am currently training at this academy, and I can say with utmost certainty that Sifu John is an excellent teacher in Kung Fu. He is considerate of the difference in skill levels between students and he encourages them to be challenged. He hopes only for the best in his students and he reminds them not to push themselves too hard. If there is a place to learn Kung Fu, I highly recommend coming here

Im so happy that we discovered this amazing Kung Fu School! I was talking with a close friend about my son’s desire to try Kung Fu. She had previously taught Kung Fu herself and she told me to check out Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy near me in Chandler AZ. Our son has never been very athletic, so I was a little nervous for his first lesson. I was so happy to see how welcoming and supportive everyone was. All the parents and fellow students cheer each other on. Sifu John is so encouraging and kind. You can tell he truly cares for each of these kids. He does a wonderful job at keeping all the kids engaged and focused during the entire class. There is a wide variety of classes for all age groups and skills levels. Both of our sons, ages 4 and 9, have been going for 3 months now. They have progressed so quickly and I know it’s because of how much time and effort Sifu John puts into each of his lessons. If you are looking for a martial arts program in the east valley, I’d highly recommend coming to visit Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy. I’m so grateful that we found this amazing spot!

Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy has been awesome! We have a 9 year old who isn’t really into athletics and we’ve been looking for some way to help him build his confidence. We started looking for martial arts classes in the Gilbert area, and someone we really trust recommended Kung Fu in Chandler with Sifu John. We did a free class and our 4 year old thought it was so cool that he decided to jump in too. We have found Sifu John to be extremely skilled at teaching. He is patient, caring, and kind, but he also has a good balance of expecting kids to focus and work hard. Our 9 year old has gained a ton of confidence and skill. Our 4 year old loves going to learn how to kick and punch and to see his “Kung Fu friends.” Whether you’re an adult looking for good community or you have a child in need of fun and structure, I do highly recommend Tat Wong. If you’re on the fence, I’d recommend just reaching out and doing one free class. We are super thankful we found this place.

I really enjoy training at Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy-Arizona. Classes are fun, full of high octane, and I always leave feeling invigorated. I love how Sifu John leads the sessions. He's always encouraging us to work towards our fullest potential, and has a lot of knowledge on the art of Choy Lay Fut. The school feels like a nice Kung Fu community.

This place is amazing! Our grandson has just begun his Kung Fu training (5yrs old). There is not enough words I can say to share what a impact Sifu John has already made in his life. Teaching with respect, patience, discipline, humor has transformed a shy boy in to a confident out going happy child. We were looking for a martial arts style that would give our 4yr old self confidence, discipline, community, and grow with him. After our free trial class our son was instantly hooked. Sifu John is amazing at giving the kids encouragement, managing their focus, and being able to teach in a way that the younger age group really responds to. I am constantly impressed by how fast the kids learn and seeing my shy, hesitant son instantly come out of his shell - it's everything you hope for as a parent. They have classes for ages 4 up thru adults; maybe once our schedules line up I'll get to learn Kung Fu and impress my kid for a change ;) .

After 16 years away from hung gar, I have been practicing here three times a week this year, as this school of choy lay fut is part of our lineage and more importantly this Sifu returned my calls. As an older Asian American adult, I have very little tolerance for macho posturing and chop suey, and this school with its long history and teaching experience supports my values. I can speak to Sifu's relatively lowkey approach in sustaining atomic habits -- the accumulated power of repeated small gains -- reducing the risk of frustration and dropping out. There's a regular rotating variety of workouts: fitboxing, forms, weapons. The school is growing, and with it the sense of community and camaraderie as we sweat it out together. Finally, I have lost at least 10 lbs since I started, and that alone is priceless.

I hadn't trained kung-fu in 11 years and yet John & Claudia and the classmates from Tat Wong made it so incredibly easy and warm to reconnect! I first learned kung fu when I was a child and had the opportunity to watch the work done with the kiddos there and it's incredibly wholesome, dynamic and encouraging. I also felt incredibly empowered to get back into martial arts and other ways to improve my self discipline and quality of life. Not to mention that Choy Lay Fut is one of the most beautiful types of king fu - very rare to find around here as well. They gave me the best experience and I hope the community gets to see the gem that this academy is!

I would recommend Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy to anyone and everyone. My son has been going here for 5 months (he is 5) and his growth has been outstanding. Sifu John is an amazing teacher who demonstrates patience, knowledge, understanding, and whose passion for the art of Kung Fu keeps my son engaged and excited each class. If you are looking for a more personal kung fu class, this is the place!

I love that John encourages him to do his best. Tat Wong is a special place where you know you are always welcome. Sifu John will greet you with a smiling face and a welcome heart.
