Thank you SNM team I met this company at the Skytower for their Kiwi-Cab bus which was great. I found the overall experience value for money and the guide was informative. We did indeed spot the elusive kiwi, saw 4 in fact!

Thank you for your review. We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the experience and found it great value for money. Seeing even one kiwi is special, so spotting four is an exceptional night at Tāwharanui! We're pleased our guide helped make the evening both informative and memorable. We hope to welcome you on another Social Nature Movement adventure soon.

Had a really great trip to Rangitoto Island with Legend. He was very knowledgeable about the island and was great company! Social Nature Movement (SMN) has many great activities and excursions. I highly recommend them. They are well organized and great fun. I especially appreciate SMN's flexibility in working with me to provide a great experience during the winter period when there is less demand for outdoor activities.

We went on the bioluminescent kayak tour with these guys. It was beautiful ✨ Genuinely felt like magic seeing plankton light up the water, out guide was super knowledgeable and had a great dry sense of humour, Highly recommended 12/10

Fabulous experience on the Kiwi Walking tour at Tāwharanui Regional park. It was the only tour we could find which departed from Auckland. We were collected from the Sky Tower at 4PM in a small bus and headed straight to the park. Once at the park we were given head torches and some information about our visit. Our guide, Maria, was fun and knowledgeable. We were lucky that there was only 3 of us in the group and I was pleased that the tour didn’t feel rushed - it felt like Maria tweaked things according to match our abilities and desire to see more. We ended up walking for about 3 hours and spotted 5 kiwis - 4 males and 1 female. If I had any feedback, I would suggest that a spot light is given to each member of the group or more powerful head torches. Only one spot light amongst the group meant people can feel left out. I also felt that the communication regarding collection was somewhat poor as I don’t recall receiving an email with time / location details.
Reply from Social Nature Movement 2026.05.22
Thanks so much for the thoughtful review Kieran, we really appreciate it.

We’re very happy to hear you enjoyed the experience and that you were able to spot 5 kiwi including a female, which is always special. Tāwharanui is an incredible place and we’re glad Maria helped make the evening relaxed, flexible, and enjoyable rather than feeling rushed.

We also really appreciate the constructive feedback. The point regarding lighting is one we have tested a few times and have found that more lights has not helped with spotting kiwis as the guide at the front achieves this and with too many spotting torches it creates a 'light show'.

Thanks again for joining us and hopefully we can welcome you on another SNM adventure in the future.

Bioluminescent kayaking was amazing! Genuinely could not believe how bright it was in the water with every stroke, so worth doing. Paul led a great tour and expertly managed and guided those in our group who were new to kayaking too.

Man that's epic Craig, we too are stoked how bright the bio is at the moment. Good timing and luck for you, certainly appreciate your review of our kayak tour!

Our Kiwi Spotting & night sky tour on 16 May 2026 was fantastic. We saw kiwi in the bush, clear starry sky & bioluminescence on the water. The tawharanui area is a treasure. Our guide was Legend, so informative and good. Walking tracks are easy. Red light torches supplied. Apparently less than 5% NZers have seen Kiwi in the wild. Lucky I am now one. I learned much about our precious bird. Special thanks to Social Nature Movement for accomodating the numerous booking changes we had to make before actually doing the tour at last. Sue & Annette.

I have been working with María and the SNM customer support team over the past month to organise glamping for our wedding next year. They have been fantastic at responding promptly with answers to all our questions and have been very willing to help with any requests we've had. It's very refreshing to liaise with a team who are solution focused rather than defaulting to "No" if anything is outside their usual scope and they have been incredibly helpful every step of the way. Our guests are very excited about the glamping option and we are looking forward to having your team help with our wedding!

Thanks heaps Michael, we appreciate your honest review about our processes and team. Our glamping services will surely make for some memories and we wish you well on your special wedding day!

I had a great day of climbing at Ti pound with Chris. He was professional and accommodating. He was more than happy to put up top ropes for me since my lead head was non-existent that day. He was also super knowledgeable about the area and was happy to answer the questions that I would come up with. I think what really made it five stars was that Chris brought feijoas with him and gave me a few. I'd heard so many great things about them but finally got to have them thanks to Chris. I'd definitely book future excursions with social nature movement
Reply from Social Nature Movement 2026.05.18
Such a strong-review Scott :-) we dig your vibes and understand that Chris said you did well under his supervision. We hope Ti Point was an idyllic cliff crag and the feijoas got you psyched to send some epic climbs. All the best!

Sad to have missed out! Really sad this didn't happen as I was really looking forward to it, unfortunately this was cancelled due to low numbers, obviously not the company fault! These things happen! Good initial communication of this to myself via email, and really worked to make it happen by providing me with appropriate alternatives or a refund with a request for me to reply with my choice. I replied the following day but unfortunately the email was sent from from a noreply email address (no-reply@bokun.io) so I sent an email with my choice to the 'support@snm.nz' - which to be fair is quoted as the main way to contact on the booking system (I asked for a refund not a rearranged date as didn't fit with my itinerary) but I received no reply/confirmation. I then just received a further email from the noreply email stating "As we have not received a reply to our email and have not reached our minimum numbers for tonight's tour, we are unfortunately having to cancel your reservation. You will receive a full refund" So review is largely so the company is aware that the emails sent out asking questions of clients come from an address we cannot reply to. So in future perhaps ensure the support@snm.nz email is on the bottom of all correspondence to ensure things are smoother and that this mailbox is responded to (although appreciate it is probably very busy)... Would be excellent if wasn't for the above email frustrations.
Reply from Social Nature Movement 2026.05.06
Thank you for the honest and constructive feedback and also for recognising that the cancellation itself was simply due to minimum numbers not being reached. We genuinely appreciate your understanding, flexibility, and the effort you made to respond promptly. We are very sorry for the frustration caused by the communication process afterward. You have highlighted an important issue with the no-reply email workflow, and we are currently looking into our reservation management system and why guest responses are not being handled more clearly when correspondence is sent from the booking platform. Your feedback is extremely valuable in helping us improve this. While we are disappointed we could not deliver the experience for you this time, we truly appreciate the fair and thoughtful nature of your review and hope we may have the opportunity to host you on a future visit to Auckland.

We had an absolutely unforgettable kiwi spotting experience thanks to our incredible guide, Legend. His knowledge, passion, and sharp eye made all the difference — there’s no way we would have spotted a kiwi without him. Not only did we see one, but we were lucky enough to spot three kiwis, which made the experience even more special. Legend’s ability to track and share insights about these amazing birds truly elevated the entire tour. If you’re considering a kiwi spotting experience, I can’t recommend this enough. An absolute must-do, especially with a guide like Legend.

Hi Michael, this is a great review to start our Monday with, thanks! So happy Legend transferred his experience and intuition over to a successful kiwi spotting experience. We wish you back anytime :-) Thanks for choosing SNM

Our guide Maria was lovely and very well spoken. She obviously had alot of knowledge about glowing worms and the environment. However, this was not the experience we expected. At first we were walking on relatively level ground. We were given headlights which again were ok at first however,we went off trail into the bush along the creek. This was extremely slippery and involved climbing over fallen trees while holding onto branches etc. This was not something I would do in broad daylight let only in the pitch dark. This should have been more clearly explained when booking. Of the 6 in our tour 3 of us agreed it wasn’t worth it. I wouldn’t recommend this tour even though it was in Auckland and less travel involved. If you want to see these little worms spend the money for the bigger trip to Waikato.
Reply from Social Nature Movement 2026.04.23
Thanks for your thoughtful feedback—we genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share it.

We’re really pleased to hear Maria made a strong impression. She’s an exceptional guide, and her knowledge and delivery are exactly what we aim for on every experience. That said, we’re sorry the terrain came as a surprise. This tour is designed as a genuine, off-track nature experience rather than a formed-path walk. The conditions you described—uneven ground, mud, stream edges, and navigating through bush—are part of accessing a natural glowworm habitat in Auckland, away from built infrastructure. We do make this clear at multiple points prior to arrival. It’s outlined prominently on our website (including the note that terrain is not flat and can be wet, muddy, and slippery), and all guests receive a reminder email before the tour prompting them to review the website, weather, and their booking details so they can come prepared and make an informed decision.

We understand this style of experience isn’t for everyone, and for those seeking a more accessible, formed-path option, locations such as "the bigger trip to Waikato" may be more suitable. That said, for those wanting something raw, local, and immersive—right here in Auckland—this experience offers a very different connection to nature.

We appreciate your perspective, and it helps us continue refining how we communicate expectations clearly.
