Aleksei is not transparent and does not communicate well. There were multiple times where I asked him a specific question and he either ensured me that it would be done, or he would ignore it entirely. We had multiple projects to do and he ended up only partially completing two of them: 1. Replacing missing boards and 2. Cleaning, sanding, and sealing all wood decks.
The first, I had to ask multiple times for him to include certain boards. As you can see in the photos, there’s one board I asked for him to do multiple times (once verbally and twice through email or text) and he assured me it would be replaced. It wasn’t. I also told him we did not have the wood to replace it and asked him to source it and he either ignored the question or said he saw we had the wood already.
2. The cleaning and sealing of the deck overall went well but on December 3 I told him that some of the stairs had fuzz from the cloth he used to wipe the sealant. He assured me it would wash away with rain, but as you can see from the picture I took today (January 13) it never did.
Lastly, he refuses to be transparent about his prices. I’ve never had a contractor of any kind refuse to break down prices. When I asked that he finish replacing the 3 boards he never replaced (including the one in front of the front door that he said he would do) he sent me a change order for $1800 for only a few hours of work. When I asked that he only do the one by the front door, he said the price would not change. When I asked about the cost breakdown, he gave me a lengthy excuse as to why he wouldn’t do it. To me that shows that he’s not trustworthy.

I do want to clarify a few important points for anyone reading this review. The core scope of work that was performed — deck cleaning, sanding, and sealing — was completed and, as you mentioned, the overall result of that work went well. It is unfortunate that a low rating was given not for the quality of the completed work, but primarily due to communication expectations and additional items that were outside of the originally completed scope.
This project took place during the rainy season, which significantly affected scheduling, workflow, and communication. Deck work is highly weather-dependent, and there were periods when work could only proceed when conditions allowed. During those times, my focus was on safely completing the work rather than frequent back-and-forth communication.
Regarding the remaining boards: I did offer to return and address the concerns you raised, including the board near the front door and the stair issue. Unfortunately, shortly after, I experienced serious and unexpected health complications and am still undergoing treatment. This temporarily prevented me from returning to the site, which I did communicate once I was able.
As for pricing, I understand that different contractors operate differently. My estimates are based on scope, mobilization, materials sourcing, labor, insurance, and overhead — not just hours on site. I respect that this approach may not align with every client’s expectations, but it does not reflect a lack of transparency or trustworthiness.
I genuinely regret that this project ended with frustration and miscommunication. I typically work with clients in a collaborative and respectful manner, and I’m sorry that in this case we were not aligned. I wish you the best moving forward and appreciate the opportunity to respond.IMG_9043.HEIC
