We had an unforgettable bat-encounter at the Tolga Bat Hospital. Our guide Cass was a passionate and lovely expert that took us on a learning journey about bat’s lives. We could see different types of bats and the well-known flying foxes, of course.
This initiative is very important to spread awareness of bats and how important is to protect them.

Thanks Lara, yes Cass is both passionate and lovely - and our work through the visitor centre is very important.
Everything about bats
Very informative, very interesting, the guide was awesome and showed us many bats. Also, all the money goes to the bats so going there is also useful, on top of being a cool experience. If I return to Australia, I might very well take another tour just for the support!
This was definitely one of the highlights if our trip to northern Queensland. Small group tour and very knowledgeable and friendly guide (Cass) whose passion for the bats was contagious! What an amazing facility and dedicated team. The bats were absolutely charming - loved seeing the great big groups of fruitbats gossiping and fanning themselves in the large enclosure and the micro bats were absolutely incredible creatures - feel so lucky to have had the chance to see them up close like that. Highly recommend visiting!

Thanks Kristy, Cass has only recently started guiding with us. She's very passionate, as are we all.
Great Experience
Such great work these people are doing and their passion shows through. I was impressed by the guide's intimate knowledge if not only the species but of the individual bats in their care. I especially applaud that they start "weaning" the bats to be released off human contact as they age. AMAZING WORK!
Fantastic experience
Absolutely amazing place. Getting to see bats up close, and hearing the passion of the volunteers was fantastic. And having baby bats crawl towards to me try and be my friend was a highlight!

Up Close Experience
What a fabulous experience! Amazing to be so close to stick incredible animals. Informative, friendly staff who do an amazing job helping injured and orphaned bats. Would also recommend a visit to Hasties Swamp Bird Hide that is very close by.

Thanks Lisa, glad you mentioned Hastie's Swamp with its double storey bird hide
My long awaited visit to the bat hospital did not disappoint! I would encourage everyone to attend. Vivvy, our guide, was exceptional, had a great bat knowledge base and also a hilarious sense of humour. Meeting David, one of the microbats, was a special highlight.
This hospital does such important work with rehabilitating bats, educating the public and the safe wildlife fencing project. I am compelled to volunteer in the future.
I hope that all farmers in the area visit so they can overcome their hatred of these cute flittermice.
Accessibility is not 100% for wheels but still worth a visit.

Batty for Bats
We had such a great time at Tolga Bat Hospital. It’s a little sanctuary but full of heart. They rescue and rehab hundreds of bats every year, from big flying foxes to tiny microbats, and the care they put in is clear. Real heroes who create batbfans one tour at a time. Our guide Vivy was brilliant. Passionate and packed with cool facts. Who knew some bats can only crawl backwards because of the way their knees are set up?The microbats were a standout. We watched one little guy finally nail his first proper flight after a couple of shaky goes in the weeks before. Our new bub giggled the whole way through, loving all the fluttering and the stories. Perfect family outing. The staff treat every bat with so much respect. If you’re up in Far North Queensland, just book a tour. It’s fascinating, heartwarming, and well worth it. Five upside-down stars from us!If your a farmer and a bit sceptical I reckon Vivy can turn your heart around as well :P
Amazing! Great fun, up close with the bats and an engaging educational aspect. I never knew there were so many different types! Jenny does an incredible and inspiring job of tirelessly rescuing and caring for injured or unwell bats 24/7. They really are so cute and immensely important as pollinators across a vast span of Australia.
I highly recommend visiting as part of your Tablelands visit. Better than all the commercial venues and you won't see anything like it anywhere else!
