Amazing experience! First we got a presentation about the history of makgeolli, the different versions of makgeolli, and what kind of makgeolli we were going to make today. That was super interesting! Then we got to make our own makgeolli. We did a chestnut makgeolli. Was really great to see how it’s made. Then we got to taste lots of different makgeollis. Was a lot of fun and I tasted some great makgeollis! Group was really nice and Omar was great too! So glad I took this class! Highly recommend!
This was an absolutely fantastic experience! Shoutout to Omar who was our teacher/guide. He was very thorough in explaining the makgeolli process and gave us tips to brew at home. He was very personable and knowledgeable on all things fermentation. While I love soju more, Omar gave me a greater appreciation on makgeolli and the different types that are out there. Also loved the tasting portion. Would absolutely recommend
This experience at The Sool Company was very unique and I learned a lot about Korean brewery. You get to taste multiple kinds, share your thoughts, get to win a prize and also you’re not forced to drink it all of it. The instructor provides incredible knowledge, and I can tell they’re passionate about it all. I highly recommend this class with your group on your next trip!
My husband and I loved the Insadong Makgeolli tour with Omar! This is the tour to take if you want to eat/drink at the kinds of places only locals might know about and gatekeep. The last stop truly reminded us of the old school hole-in-the-wall places that our parents would have gone to many years ago. Most of all, the sool and food were all absolutely delicious. Omar was a great guide and I loved chatting with him about home brewing. This tour is an absolute must for anyone interested in Korean alcohol and food!
One of the most fun experiences we had during our time in seoul. Omar taught us so much about makgeolli. We had a great time and great conversations and great drinks. Would def recommend to anyone visiting or wanting to know more about korean drinking culture. Omar speaks many languages including english!
Took a brewing class with Omar on 11/21. It was a really cool unique experience to have in Seoul - I got a really nice survey of the history of alcohol in Korea in relation to events in Korean history and an introductory tasting of makgeolli. Then, we got to roll up our sleeves and get hands on with making the mash before it gets sealed up to ferment. Then, Omar walked us through some other different traditional liquors from other brewers as well as soju. Informative, entertaining, and a real treat - well worth the time to take one of the experiences at The Sool Company.
Omar was a great host for our Korean alcohol tasting. He was also super nice and waited for us because we went to The Sool Gallery first, so make sure you get the right address when coming here! The alcohol was delicious, and we got to guess the difference alcohol levels for the drinks we tried. A very fun experience!
