It turned out to be more involved than I had assumed. Water had been tracking along a rafter and getting into the wall cavity below before showing up on the ceiling, which explained why the stain on the ceiling was nowhere near where the actual entry point was. He explained the whole path with photos and gave me a clear scope of work. The roof repair took about three hours. The crew was tidy and the area around the repair was left cleaner than they found it. Follow up call came a week later to make sure everything was dry. That kind of service is rare and I will not use anyone else going forward.

The repair required pulling back the siding and resetting the step flashing correctly. It was more involved than the previous patch jobs but it was the right fix. The ceiling has been dry through two full wet seasons since then. We are genuinely frustrated it took three contractors to get here but relieved we finally did.
