Stayed in the Cairngorm Cottage- absolutely stunning and supremely comfortable, couldn't fault a single thing. Well worth the cost.

A Perfect Week at Cathedral House, Dornoch – September 2024
We had the pleasure of staying at Cathedral House for one week in September 2024, and it truly exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the charming, picturesque setting of the house – nestled in the heart of Dornoch with views of the stunning cathedral just steps away.
The house itself was beautifully appointed, blending traditional character with modern comforts. Every room was spacious, immaculate, and thoughtfully designed. We appreciated the little touches like the welcome basket with local goodies
The living areas were cozy, and we especially loved the peaceful atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring
The location was ideal, with everything we needed within walking distance – from local shops to cozy cafes and delicious restaurants. We found the area to be a great base for exploring the Highlands, with plenty of outdoor activities and scenic spots nearby, including the nearby stunning Dornoch beach and the surrounding countryside.
Overall, our week at Cathedral House was an unforgettable experience, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and comfortable stay in Dornoch. We’re already planning our next visit!
We had very high expectations of Cathedral House in Dornoch. Having stayed a number of times at a related hotel/lodges, ‘Muckrach’ near to Grantown. And we still couldn’t help but be blown away. From booking to check in/out. It was seamless. Information provided prior to arrival, allowed us to drive straight to the property. It was winter, and the lights and heating had been left on for our arrival. It was very welcoming. This house has undergone a massive renovation, and remodel. And it has been worth it. High end fixtures and fittings. Tasteful decor. Linens were luxurious. The kitchen was possibly the best kitchen in a rental we’ve ever been in. The bathrooms, lovely and modern. We felt like we were the first to use them. Which is important to us. The levels of cleanliness were faultless. There was a small welcome pack. Including the basics which were incredibly handy given our arrival time. And our limited knowledge of what would be available in the town. We only used the kitchen/snug area. We looked into the ‘posh room’, and it was beautiful. But settled into just the one area for our time there. We were sure, that in the summer, the orangery would be stunning, with access on to the courtyard. The location, couldn’t be more perfect. Right underneath the beautiful cathedral, and on a village green area. A 10 minute leisurely walk to a most glorious beach. Similar distance, if you’re a golfer, and want to have a round or two at the famous ‘Royal Dornoch Golf Club’. There are restaurants, pubs, takeaways and a cafe almost on the doorstep. And a small Coop with a good selection . Again all within 2 minutes walk. (Note; dogs are not welcome in most of them. The Castle Hotel, right across the road, did however, welcome our pooch, and the food/service was very good. They also had an amazing selection of Whisky, should that be your thing). We visited lots of places, including John 0 Groats. And many, many distilleries. Even though we don’t much care for the liquor. We enjoy the romance and history of the distilleries. The location on the NC500 couldn’t be better. And the local scenery is a photographers paradise. Protected dark skies too, or so we were told by a local. We appreciated the stars. We struggle to find any fault with this house, or the service provided. But if we were to be hyper critical. (And even then, we struggle for something to change). It would be that there are perhaps a few too many ornamental things. It felt a little cluttered. We were bothered we might damage something. But then, it all adds to the stunning properties charm. And… we didn’t have to dust them! We have no hesitation recommending this holiday home. Something we rarely do. As we consider reviews are subjective. Our only real issue with the house is, that it doesn’t belong to us.

Wow, Cathedral House!
On arrival what a stunning house! You open the doors to pure luxury. Everything has been thought of to make a stay 5*. Gorgeous,
Super comfy beds for a great sleep and a kitchen which is a pleasure to cook in. Just a lovely place to be in and unwind. We didn't want to leave.
The location is also great, lots of walks from the house to the beach ,golf course and lovely individual shops and coffee shops.
Great outside area to sit with a cuppa and watch the world go by. The garden is really lovely ,you can see the cathedral ideal location.
Fantastic place,we can't wait to go back, cannot rate it highly enough.
We had the most amazing and comfortable time at the hollies highland lodges, specifically the speyside suite. I missed the part where it says that this accommodation didn’t have a hot tub so was disappointed but I wasnt bothered about a hot tub anyway, a real log fire would be nice instead of an electric one but the suite was very warm and cosy. Shower gel, soap, shampoo all included and well stocked. Appreciated that tea bags, coffee, sugar and milk was provided. The bed was massive and very comfortable, the living room area is also so cosy and appreciate having full access to the smart TV apps. I will definitely be coming again to use this as our highlands base when we visit again. Was so sad saying goodbye to Hamish and Dougal for one last time! I personally think guests should be allowed to park right against the property and not in a separated car park - it wouldn’t cause any obstructions and is more convenient.
Our stay at Cathedral House was perfect. The accommodation has been modernised to a high standard and tastefully decorated.
The property is well appointed with 4 double bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, with a further family bathroom and separate downstairs toilet/washroom.
The location is second to none, in the centre of the charming town of Dornoch. Within walking distance of the local butchers, chemist, and co-op. It is also a stones throw from the amazing cocoa mountain and their deliciously addictive "Best" hot chocolates. Dornoch beach is within walking distance and is a lovely sandy beach.
Royal Dornoch Golf Club is also nearby, again, within walking distance. There is also a secure external room to store any equipment during your stay.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Cathedral House to everyone.
Absolute luxury in the Caingorms - you must stay here!
We've just returned from our second stay in the Caingorm Cottage this year, the location is beautiful and convenient to all of the local attractions and sights without being in the hustle and bustle. The properties are all to a very high standard, with luxury touches, we loved the hot tub at night for star gazing and the log burner in the evenings to cosy up on the cold evenings. Check-in is contactless which we personally love and we were left to truly relax and enjoy the space. The onsite highland cows - Hamish & Dougal are a must, they love a fuss! Thank you so much for two holidays of a lifetime. We will be back! ❤️ Dave, Michelle, Nikki & Jazz x
