Even though I didn’t retain them, they so kindly guided me to who could assist me, also, encouraged me that things would work out!!!
After the sudden loss of my father, we hired the Hatchett Law Firm to help with the probate process and they were very helpful and informative throughout the entire process! They make you feel as if you’re family rather than just their client. Would highly recommend them and use them again

Thank you so much for the review! We appreciate it.
A year later after the passing of my precious mother I have had time to reflect on the most important things that matters when losing a loved one. Peace of mind and guidance is not only important but required when going through a life changing event or loss. After a few phone calls to other attorneys’ offices and not truly sold on their services. Hatchett Law firm was the first law office to express how they would help me and my family get peace of mind and guidance to get through our suffering. Even though it was my first visit to their office, I left feeling like I selected the right law firm. I work for a law firm, but the guidance, empathy and understanding your office shared with me has made me change my thinking on how I approach our business even though we deal with a different type of client. So, I could not pass up another opportunity to encourage anyone needing or looking for an affordable probate, guardianship, mediation and estate planning services for that special someone to call Cynthia Hatchett law office. Her ability to provide outstanding services is one-of-one during times of a hurting loss, unbelievable stress and grief that overwhelms most people. Call her……………. George “Tony” King

Mr. King, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Losing a mother leaves a space that words can’t adequately fill. Many of us at the firm have also experienced the loss of a parent, and we understand how disorienting and heavy that season can be. In those moments, what people need most is clarity, steadiness, and someone who help without adding to the weight they are already carrying. It means more than you know that you felt peace of mind and genuine support during such a difficult time. Probate is not just paperwork and court filings, our work represents someone’s life, legacy, and family. It also represents an opportunity for our firm to build relationship during a loss. We never forget that. Your reflection on how the experience influenced the way you approach your own work is especially meaningful. It is our intention to serve with empathy, professionalism, and care, and we are pleased that our intentions met your expectations. We are grateful for your kind words and honored to have been there to also experience your journey after loss. You have such grace. Keep spreading love. The world needs more!
Hatchett Law Firm was fine… until I questioned them about possibly overcharging me for email exchanges that I believe were due to disorganization of their company. They literally charged me *hundreds of dollars* - AFTER probate court was over (when I had already paid a big retainer PLUS some) for email exchanges that shouldn't have happened in the first place. Everything was fine enough and I had already overlooked what I felt were other overcharges, until they emailed me after probate to ask if I wanted original copies of my documents. When I said yes, they replied that I actually already had original copies - then charged me for the whole interaction. Why should I pay you for emails your law firm sent that never needed to be sent in the first place?? If I already have original copies, you should know, and then not ask me if I want my original copies. And then it is *ludacris* to charge me for the email exchange your firm started to figure this out!
How this started: Less than a week ago, I reviewed my invoice and then questioned the receptionist about charges on my bill. Within TWO DAYS of me calling to ask them about this, and letting them know I would like to talk to someone about it, and then not hearing a response from them re: my overcharge concerns - they simply texted me and claimed that they were going to "notify the court of my decision” not to pay them! When it has been single digit days from when I was even in probate court with them, to then being given an additional bill (after I was told that the last additional $1k I paid them, in addition to my first retainer, would surely be enough to carry me through to the end of my case - only to get another bill for $2k), and then this interaction!
This firm immediately flipped on me, and I am beyond disturbed by their unprofessional behavior. I have dealt with numerous attorneys in my life, and NEVER have I ever had a firm behave this unprofessionally. Ever. And never have I ever had a firm attack me for taking more than a few days to pay a $2k bill from the time I got the invoice, with zero evidence I was refusing to pay?? Maybe if you give people enough time to pay, YOU WOULD KNOW THAT!
I initially wrote a good review one week ago - because as soon as I left their office after notarizing probate court documents, they immediately asked if I would write a review and handed me a paper with a QR code on it. Now I can see that if I had waited until I got home to write a review (I had to fly from Oregon to Texas, and as soon as I got home I had to manage my many affairs and responsibilities, as I am a super single mom with two kids and two dogs), I probably would have seen their organizations true colors and written a more accurate review. Like this one.

We take client feedback seriously. Because this matter involves a former client, our ability to respond in detail is limited by our ethical duty of confidentiality.
What we can clarify is this: the work requested in this probate matter was completed. Following the court hearing, additional required tasks were performed, including preparation and filing of post-hearing documents necessary to assist her with estate administration, including fees we advanced to the court and publications from our firm account on her behalf. Those services were reflected on a final amount due of $756 — not $2,000 as stated in this review.
This client previously posted a positive review immediately after her hearing, expressing satisfaction with our services. Specifically, she wrote then "Attorney Mike Hatchett, as well as the entire team, were so wonderful and professional during the entire process. They handled my case with care and compassion and kindness and I really cannot thank them enough for how they helped me. I would recommend them to anyone!"
The concerns raised here arose only after she received a reminder to pay her final invoice for the services she received and the expenses we paid on her behalf. When a client disputes the service, indicates an unwillingness to pay, and threatens posting negative feedback in retaliation, we are required to formally acknowledge termination of representation and notify the court that we no longer represent the party. The only "flipping" that occured was from the client who we extended service and credit without sufficient retainer, who when asked to settle her account that it would be acceptable to attack the professionals that she previously praised and threaten to post a negative review if she did not get her way. This is not about a "possible overcharge," we can handle a billing disagreement without it being a dispute. This is about decency.
We do not charge for unnecessary communications. All billing entries reflect time spent responding to client inquiries, completing required filings, and administering the estate through completion. Like most law firms, we bill for attorney and staff time as outlined in our engagement agreement. We understand that legal services are an investment and that final invoices can feel stressful. However, suggesting disorganization or retaliation mischaracterizes what occurred. No services were withheld. The matter was brought through hearing and required filings were completed.
We appreciate that many clients find us through the reviews posted here. We understand the damage to reputation caused by untrue reviews, like the one we are now addressing. However, we will not allow anyone to threaten use of a negative review to negotiate payment of their bills. We trust the public will discern the truth. What is not being said is that her work was done and we are left holding her unpaid bill.
We remain committed to serving our community with professionalism, transparency, and adherence to ethical standards. While we regret this one person chose to discard the relationship over what she now states is a "possible overcharge for messages", we stand behind the work performed and the integrity of our billing practices. For prospective clients reading this: we are looking to build long-term relationships and always happy to discuss billing expectations and scope of representation at the outset of a matter and throughout a matter so there are no surprises and we remain aligned to get the work done.

Thank you so much for these kind words! You have been a pleasure to serve!
I cannot say enough good things about Cynthia, Amanda, and the entire Hatchett Law Firm team. They are compassionate, ethical, knowledgable, and professional. Cynthia and Amanda have done a tremendous job in guiding me through the Dependent Administration of my cousin's estate. It has been a very complicated case with lots of moving parts but they did not bat an eye. They've done what needed to be done.
The case also evolved into a will contest with the estate of My cousin's brother, who died a month prior to her. With Cynthia's guidance, we were able to reach a satisfactory settlement with his estate. Amanda has always been a pleasure to work with, highly efficient and competent as well. If you ever need a probate attorney in Texas, do not hesitate to contact the Hatchett Law Firm.
