A blast from the past! A must visit for me when in Budapest, a family tradition going back to the early 1900’s. Before people dined in suits and dresses, now anything goes, like jeans, etc :( As for the food, it was delicious. Our service was good and well scripted. I noticed that all the “old guard” servers were gone. Not sure if this was because we were there on a Sunday or not. Our sever had no clue about wines, hence the 4 stars in service. His comment was ” I don’t drink wine.” We were looking for a Hungarian white wine and he brought over a couple of bottles for us to try that we selected. That solved the problem. I’m always going to return to the Gundel when in Budapest :)

Καταρχήν ο χώρος είναι πανέμορφος εκπέμπωντας ένα αριστοκρατικό στυλ χωρίς όμως να είναι πομπώδες. Το προσωπικό ευγενέστατο και πρόσχαρο. Παραγγείλαμε 4 cappuccino και 4 γλυκά. Όλα ήταν πεντανόστιμα. We had a reservation for a late lunch during the weekday, but the restaurant was almost empty and you might be able get the table without prior reservation at that time. The menu was excellent. I loved fisherman’s soup (Halaszlé) and the dessert (Galuski) the most and the fish was delicious as well. We spend around 35 000 for two - soups, main dishes and coffee with one desert included.
