While the historic theater building itself and its basement museum are currently closed to the public for a major renovation, visiting the sites across the street is still a informative experience and worth the stop. We spent our time exploring the Petersen House, which is the actual home where President Lincoln was taken and ultimately passed away. The exhibits there do an incredible job of detailing the solemn history of his final hours, what happened immediately following his death, and the fate of those involved in the assassination conspiracy. Even with the main theater unavailable right now, taking in the history from this side of the street is worth the time and recommended for any history lover.
