Saw so many monkeys
This was a fun and unique experience as part of our trip to Cartagena to visit nature and see some amazing animals - the highlights being two types of monkeys and the common basilisk. Oli was very knowledgeable and informative and the fish lunch after the hike was one of the best things I ate during my trip to Colombia!
OLINTO WAS INCREDIBLE! :)
He is the top rated experience for a reason my friends! We seen monkeys & toucans & all Sorts of cool/ interesting insects lol. Super fun would definitely definitively recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Olinto was super helpful from the moment this experience was booked. Its great to be on a hike with someone who is so knowledgeable and takes so much pride in paying homage to farmers, the Indigenous land/people, the critters, the animals, the trees. All of it. Ive never hiked a Tropical Dry Forest before and while its hot, being in it felt so special as we learned that its threatened by cattle ranching/urban expansion. The biodiversity is unique and just because it looks a bit on the dryer side does not mean its less of an experience. Ecologically, Dry Forests are VERY important and offer an experience that not many has had before. We saw it all: toucans, cotton top tamarins, red howler monkeys, TONS of butterflies, and a brake stick bug that decided to jump on me. Overall, if you're heading to Cartagena - I would encourage to take a day from the beach and walk through some trees + adorable cheeky creatures! Olinto will be sure to share so much information with you.
After researching for a guided hike with a chance for wildlife viewing, I felt confident Olinto & Taroa Adventures would be a great choice. WOW! What an amazing experience and one I'd highly recommend! Everything was clearly communicated (in flawless English), well-organized, and safe.
We had a wonderful day trip to do the Howling Trail hike. After an early morning pick-up at our hotel, we drove for about 30min before stopping for a nice, local breakfast in a calm courtyard. Olinto explained the importance of the Tropical Dry Forest, as well as the geography of Colombia while we ate. Onwards to the trailhead. We pulled on rubber boots (recommended by Olinto, so don't feel you need to bring special shoes just for this day trip. Bringing your shoe insoles is helpful for improving comfort though!) and got going. We saw not one but four brown-throated, three-toed sloths in two different groupings! We saw and heard Colombian red howler monkeys throughout the hike! And we saw and heard critically endangered cotton-top tamarins! Incredible! We also saw a multitude of butterflies, birds, flowers, and insects. Olinto and his duo of trackers were great at spotting wildlife and pointing out interesting flora & fauna. Incredibly beautiful trees - white & red ceiba! We learned so much and really enjoyed our day out in nature. And on the way back we stopped for a delicious and fresh local lunch.
Really an exceptional day all around. Thank you to our new friend Olinto and Taroa Adventures!
We had a great time in the tropical dry forest. Which is really quite close to Cartagena. Olinto is a very passionate and knowledgeable guide. We had some excellent sightings of howler monkeys, cotton tops and even capucins, such luck! Lunch was great too, would definitely recommend.
So much more than a hike!
What a fantastic experience. It is so much more than a hike! We started with an on time pick up at our Airbnb in Getsemani and lovely drive to a traditional Colombian breakfast (eggs, alepas). What an amazing idea to share Colombian culture and food as part of the tour! We then continued on to the hike, where we saw red howler monkeys and cotton top tamarinds. So. Many. Monkeys! We also were lucky to see a sloth. Olinto also points out different medicinal plants, different kinds of trees and birds. On our drive back, we stopped to have a wonderful traditional Colombian lunch (chicken or whole fish). The hike was hot - bring lots of water - and is about 6km, long enough in the heat with long pants and boots. Olinto was excellent at communicating before, during, and after the hike via WhatsApp. He also took some amazing photos and sent them to us at the end! It is more expensive than other day tour options from Cartagena but I think worth every penny, especially as it includes two full meals, information about the area, culture and food, a snack on the trail (fresh banana), rubber boots, a driver and car, and several guides to help spot monkeys/sloths and keep you safe. Olinto helps to support local people by including several in different parts of the tour. All in all, a perfect day.
Amazing time seeing monkeys, tamarins and birds. Hot and sweaty but a highlight of our Cartagena visit. Getting outside of the city was a treat
Howling monkey trail, Taroa adventures
We did the Howling monkey trail with Olinto and it was fantastic. Olinto is the best tourguide you can find in Cartagena. He knows a lot about fauna and flora, culture of Colombia and the geography and will give you an unforgetable day. We learned a lot, saw a lot of monkeys and had a delicious lunch! Don't hesitate, just book a tour with Olinto!
Monkeys, tamarins and birds.
Getting outside of the city for half a day to experience the dry forest was highlight of our visit. Olinto is an amazing guide and host. He was patient and kind with my overheating wife who needed several breaks. We got to see so many birds, cotton tops and howler monkeys. Very informative and educational also. The traditional meals on the way to and from were a treat also.
Olinto our guide gave us an unforgettable experience! Excellent coordination and transportation. The hike is unique, with many opportunities to see great wildlife in their natural environment. The experience was seamlessly provided in English and Spanish. I definitely recommend this for any adventurous traveler's wanting a great hike.
We had an exceptional experience traveling to the dry tropical forest with our guide Olinto . My husband, myself and two friends made the trip together. We started the trip in the early morning, having breakfast and coffee for energy to enjoy a full day. Olinto has a true love and knowledge of this environment that he was more than happy to share with us. We saw and heard the sounds of the dry forest, including red howler monkeys, and rare, cotton-top tamarin monkeys enjoying their natural space. It was a wonderful place to visit, see, understand, and learn about. There is less than 10% remaining of this Dry forest to see. We were happy we took the time…
