We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Taman Dukuh Bali Farm Cooking School. From the moment we were picked up at Pura Dalem Puri Peliatan, everything was smooth, friendly, and well organised, and the return transfer at the end of the evening was just as easy. Our guide and instructor, Joti, was fantastic. Engaging, patient, and full of good humour, she made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal. She shared the phrase ‘catpoo-cino’ when talking about luwak coffee, and laughed along with some of our Aussie food slang, including when I called an egg a “bum nut”. Moments like that really set the tone for the evening. The farm walk was a highlight. Wandering through the gardens, learning about the plants, herbs, and spices grown on site, and then harvesting ingredients for our dishes added a depth and authenticity you don’t get in a typical cooking class. The contrast of coming from busy Ubud (or in our case, Seminyak) to suddenly being surrounded by jungle and nature hits a beautiful reset button in your head. Our class was small, just three of us which made the whole experience feel intimate and hands on. Joti made sure each of us was involved, and everyone was in full social mode that night, keeping the laughs going. The pace was perfect: time to ask questions, explore, cook, and enjoy the moment without ever feeling rushed. What really struck me was the simplicity behind the flavours. The base spice paste, basa bali, is easy to make and incredibly versatile. While the ingredient list looks long, the actual cooking is straightforward and so easy to do at home. We already grow more than half the ingredients in our own garden: ginger, garlic, lime, chilli, lemongrass, shallots, bay leaves and with a quick shop for galangal, candlenut, a bit of white pepper and turmeric, you’re all set. Joti, I promise to work on my grinding skills too :-) We cooked a generous range of dishes and enjoyed them throughout the evening; a delicious reward for such a memorable experience. If you’re visiting Ubud, give this cooking class a go. It’s warm, authentic, fun, and a beautiful way to learn about Balinese food and culture while spending time with people who genuinely love what they do.

This cooking course has been a really interesting experience. Our teacher Wid has shown us around the garden and explained to us fascinating information about their plants & tree, later he happily guided us throught the food preparation process, and finally we enjoyed our amazing Balinese creations ☺️. Made was such an amazing guide. He was chatty, funny, and informative. He knew what he was talking about and tried his hardest to find us good spots to see the fireflies. The dinner was 10/10 too and it was really lovely being given some firefly paintings made by a local village student as a little token.

I enjoyed the cooking class with Buda so much! He’s very friendly and knowledgeable, and fun haha! First we started with a market tour and got to try some Balinese cakes (don’t remember the name but they has rice and coconut, one had banana also ), delicious! Then when we arrived we got to visit the farm and he showed some plants, trees, vegetables, fruits, super interesting! Then we made several dishes together : starters, mains and dessert (and ate them obviously 😁). We left with a recipe book so we can try and make them back home 👌🏼 I’m a vegetarian so I made a different dish for the main course, really cool! And if you have allergies or intolerance, they adapt. I recommend it 200%, you cook, you eat, you learn, you have fun and you meet people! Thank you again ☺️

I love doing cooking classes when i travel and this one was exceptional. We had the best time going to the market to try local produce, exploring the farm and cooking. We even got to pick herbs from the farm for our lunch. Our instructor was wonderful and they even took so many great photos. Would 10/10 recommend! We were so full after.

We visited the home of the guide a traditional Balinese family the explanation of the culture and compound layout was incredibly interesting.To top it off, the food was absolutely excellent!
