Our 1 year old husky had his first boarding experience here for one week. He's a very happy, social, affectionate dog with a lot of puppy energy. I know that boarding is stressful for dogs no matter how well cared for they are, as it's just not their usual home or routine with their people, and I expected Maxi would need some time to decompress. When we picked him up, I knew immediately that he was very stressed...no eye contact, a lot of tension in his body, frantically sniffing around instead of the usual joy and playfulness in every greeting he gives to people and especially his own family.
His right eye had a pale yellow discharge running down about 3cm of his face--he has never had so much as watery eyes and zero discharge in his life--which I noted immediately to the person who brought him out. I wiped it off, flushed it with water once we were in the car and again at home, applied a warm compress, and he fortunately didn't have additional issues. He was very dehydrated and took the longest drink of water I've ever seen once in the car. This excessive thirst continued for about 12 hours. After we got him home, I did a thorough check for ticks, and found an open sore on his left hind leg, about 1cm in diameter. It wasn't seeping, but looked to be very recently scabbed (within 24 hours) and very pink and raw around the edges. This ended up requiring a vet visit and a topical cream. It's a minor injury that didn't affect his mobility, but it's something that absolutely should have been noticed at the facility and reported to us on pick up, as it could have easily led to a more serious infection given the state of it. It took about 30 hours for Maxi to return to his usual self. He had been freshly bathed when we picked him up, which was appreciated. We received one email over the boarding period that said Maxi was doing well, the day before we picked him up.
All in all, we're very disappointed. The website and a phone conversation with a person at reception had given us the impression that Maxi would have plenty of social time, when in fact he didn't get any play time with other dogs. His physical state gave me concerns about the cleanliness of the conditions he was boarded in, despite paying for the top tier suite. There are no pictures of the suites, the interiors, and as there aren't live feed cameras like there are in many doggy daycare and boarding facilities, we really have no way of knowing. I trusted this facility because we adopted Maxi from them as a puppy. We will not be boarding with them again.
With 2 Siberian Huskies I needed a place with the capacity and experience to handle large and strong pups. Sydney Dog & Cat does not disappoint. The staff go beyond and above to make by boys comfortable and safe. I highly recommend this puppy hotel. 5 star!⭐️

Thank you for the review Danny your two huskies are a delight to care for and we hope to see you again soon!
Left our 3 year old Rhodesian ridgeback here while we went away for four nights. He's never had any health issues until under this place's "care". We lost our Mufasa because of this and I'll never get to see him again.
Responding to the below as unable to reply in comments: while bloat is sudden onset, there are preventative measures any experienced large dog carer would know to take (such as, not feeding large amounts of food at a time and not allowing strenuous exercise before and after meals). In addition to this, bloat is easily treatable if recognised and treated IMMEDIATELY. Mufasa's GDV was so far progressed that while on the operating table, the surgeon realised his stomach had been rotten and disintegrated. This is a result of his bloat being a) identified too late and b) treatment being delayed. Furthermore, apart from an email quick to deny any sort of responsibility, this place has not once called us post incident to provide a detailed accounting of the incident leaving us in our grief thinking that our beloved 3 year old family member spent his final hours on Earth in pain and alone. Are they going to atleast deliver his ashes to us? No such offer has been made, only quick to deny all responsibility and gaslighting us into thinking this is a random event.

***Editing and adding to our response after owners reply:
We feel it’s important to clarify a few details for accuracy. As soon as our staff noticed Mufasa was not behaving normally, they acted immediately and rushed him to the vet without hesitation. We have since received written confirmation from our attending veterinarian, who stated:
“Mufasa was diagnosed with bloat (gastric dilation and volvulus). The unfortunate thing with this condition is that the outcome is unpredictable and progresses rapidly even when the problem is detected early.”
This statement supports that our staff responded appropriately and promptly at the first sign that something was wrong. Gastric dilation can develop extremely quickly and with little to no warning, even under the best care.
We are truly sorry that this tragic event occurred during Mufasa’s stay, and we understand the family’s grief and anger. However, we want to reassure others reading this that our staff did everything possible, acted immediately, and followed all correct procedures. This heartbreaking outcome was not due to neglect or delay in care.
Dear Samaeen,
We are deeply saddened about the passing of Mufasa, and our hearts truly go out to you and his family during this very difficult time. Mufasa was a beautiful, gentle boy who was happy, eating well, and showing no signs of concern throughout his stay with us. On the morning of the incident, our team noticed that he suddenly appeared uncomfortable and did not want to get up. We immediately rushed him to our veterinarian, where he was diagnosed with gastric dilation (bloat).
Our vet has confirmed that this condition can occur very suddenly and without any visible symptoms beforehand. Unfortunately, it is not something that could have been predicted or prevented by our staff.
We completely understand that you and your family are heartbroken and that your review comes from a place of grief and anger. Losing a pet so suddenly is devastating, and we truly empathise with your pain. However, we also hope that you understand that this was not caused by any negligence or lack of care on our part. Our staff are dedicated, compassionate people who always act with the animals best interests at heart.
We are deeply sorry that this tragedy occurred during Mufasa’s stay, and we will always remember him fondly. While we completely respect your right to share your feelings, we do feel that a one-star review does not fairly reflect what has happened to Mufasa, nor the genuine care and effort shown by our team.

We boarded our dog Smudge here for the first time. We got him a private temperature controlled kennel, and a grooming package that included a bath and nail trim. After a convenient dog taxi pickup and initial period of anxiety Smudge settled in quite well with the staff, so much so that he actually behaved for a bath. The staff were friendly and professional, payment was easy and he came exhausted, but shiny, clean and happy. Will definitely choose again.

So my girls Madigan and Molly (mother and daughter ) stayed last week for 5 days as we had a family wedding to attend. My girls have never stayed anywhere but with us so I was anxious how they would go. They went so well and even ate their food ( which is so amazing as they are fussy? )
Can’t recommend Sydney Dog and Cat boarding highly enough for looking after my girls. Till next time

Thank you for the 5 star review! We are so glad we could help make Madigan and Mollys first vacation a great and safe experience and can’t wait to welcome them again!
Maggie’s first time staying in a boarding facility. I think she was a little stressed but the friendly staff were patient and kind to help her settle in. I received photos each day of her out enjoying the sunshine.
She had quite a bit of diarrhea when she got home. But that was either her nerves or the gourmet food she had was too rich for her. Next time she stays we will just go with the kibble.
