Hi this is Rick, the one who worked with you through this process. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we’re very sorry that your experience did not meet expectations, we’d like to clarify a few important details regarding both your Kilimanjaro climb and safari.On the mountain, you were able to ascend successfully up to Kosovo Camp, but on summit night, you became extremely fatigued and showed signs of worsening altitude sickness. For your safety, the decision was made to turn back before the summit in line with Climb Kili’s safety protocol, which prioritizes the wellbeing of climbers above all else.When you later asked about re-attempting the summit, it was explained that this would not be possible for several reasons. The high altitude and your existing symptoms made another attempt unsafe, and remaining at 16,500' for an additional night would have significantly increased the risk of serious illness. Additionally, climbing permits and timing for the descent did not allow for a second summit attempt. I personally spoke with you during this time and reviewed these factors, and it was understood that the decision was made for your safety.Regarding your safari, I was informed of your husband’s back injury in the evening, around 7 p.m., and immediately began exploring flight options to minimize long travel hours. Because flight offices were closed at that hour, I reached out to personal contacts and coordinated with your driver to prepare for a potential next-morning flight. Unfortunately, the following day was a public holiday, and only counter staff were available at the Serengeti airstrip. I advised traveling to the airstrip to secure seats directly. The airline offered a standard last-minute fare of $175 per person, which you chose to decline. To ensure comfort, arrangements were made to split the journey into two days with an overnight stay in Karatu so your husband could rest.Throughout the process, I remained in communication with your driver for updates, as this was the only direct channel of contact available during travel. When you returned to Arusha, I met with you personally for an extended period to check on your wellbeing and offered to have our in-house doctor examine your husband, which you declined.The next day, when compensation was inquired about, I explained that since all safari services had already been prepaid to our partners, the correct procedure was to file through your travel insurance — which we strongly recommend obtaining for situations involving illness or injury. While you expressed that our company should issue a refund directly, our policies — consistent with industry standards — don’t allow for duplicate compensation or refunds when services have already been rendered or paid to third parties. We promptly provided a detailed letter for your claim and confirmed that any further documentation needed would be supplied.We understand how disappointing it must have been for your trip to take such an unexpected turn. Please know that our team — including myself and your mountain and safari guides — worked quickly, communicated clearly, and made every decision with your safety and health in mind. Our priority has always been, and will continue to be, the wellbeing of every guest.
