I had a very concerning experience at S&C Dental that others should be aware of.
During my visit I declined routine X-rays and asked if they could proceed with a cleaning without them. I was told that they could not legally clean my teeth without taking X-rays and that the ADA requires X-rays every year. After researching this, I found that claim to be incorrect. It is clear that dental X-rays are supposed to be taken based on clinical need, not automatically every year, and there is no law that requires them annually.
I was also told that the office does not make money on X-rays, yet my insurance was billed $230 for X-rays during a prior visit, while the paperwork I received did not show this charge. That discrepancy raised serious questions for me about transparency in billing.
Because of the conflicting explanations and what felt like misleading information, I lost confidence in the practice. When a provider gives inaccurate information about legal requirements and billing, it naturally makes patients worry about whether other procedures being recommended are truly necessary.
Dental X-rays also involve radiation exposure, and while the doses may be small, they are still something patients should be able to discuss and consent to without pressure or misinformation.
Patients deserve clear, honest explanations and transparent billing so they can make informed decisions about their care. Unfortunately, my experience here left me feeling that those standards were not met.
First time patient today. Emerald was very professional and her patient care is outstanding from start to finish. The hygienist was phenomenal. The dentist Nicole was very nice and took time to explain everything to me about my needs for getting my teeth in perfect health. Will be calling this place my dentist for years to come.
