Here is my opinion of my experience with the Shin Law Office and my assigned attorney, Basil Al-Qaneh.
I was assigned to this firm through my legal insurance provider, ARAG, and Basil Al-Qaneh was the attorney designated to handle my case. My experience was marked by miscommunication, procedural missteps, and questionable legal advice. He withdrew before finalizing billing with ARAG, submitted invoices I found inconsistent, and left me unrepresented during a critical phase. At times, it felt like he forgot I was the client.
If there was one consistent theme throughout my experience, it was the submission of invoices to my legal insurance for services I found questionable, incomplete, or misaligned with the actual support I received.
As a result, I was forced to self-advocate through the remainder of the case—navigating legal procedures, communications, and resolution entirely on my own. This added unnecessary stress and risk to an already sensitive matter.
My experience was so poorly handled that I am now preparing a formal complaint to submit to the Virginia State Bar.
I do not recommend this attorney.

I just wanted to leave a review because it’s the least I can do for what Attorney Anthony Shin has done for me. He helped me during the hardest time of my life when I went to him seeking representation for my divorce. I had called several attorneys prior to him, and they all wanted to charge just to have a quick conversation about my case, as a single mom and newly separated this was very difficult. Anthony Shin took my phone call and stayed on the phone with me for an hour listening to my story and reassuring me that I was going to be ok. He then asked to meet me in person and we spoke for over an hour about my case , without charging me for his time, not worrying whether I was going to move forward with him or not. He gave me some much advice showing empathy and compassion for what I was going through. Mr Shin helped me after that through out my divorce process and helped me get through this difficult process. He never gave up and defended me until my divorce was finally over.
