We used SGS this month to repave our paths and put resin on our driveway, they did an amazing job, were so helpful advising us on the best products to lay in different places and were a very polite friendly team. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them for any grounds work, paving, drives etc. Claire
SGS did our driveway. All the guys were fantastic, worked tirelessly, listened to us and solved problems quickly with good ideas. The work was finished within the 6 weeks initially promised and there were no nasty surprises on the bill. They also went out of their way to urgently do the ground prep in one area by hand so I could pave it myself (a separate project from the driveway) before we left on holiday. They helped hugely with that also by calculating the slope and drawing finished levels in chalk for me to work to, on the brickwork. I didn’t ask for this, they just did it because they knew how helpful it would be (thank you Lee and Adam)
We were away during the work and they left the job very tidy. I would definitely use them again and recommend them. We’ve had the drive for a couple of months now and we’re still so relieved and can’t believe what an improvement it’s been.
Only honest negative criticism is the alteration to the downpipe to the new drain is a bit of a trip hazard and moves freely, I will be redoing it so it’s a vertical pipe going through the acco drain cover, on wall brackets, and the brick bend could be slightly more rounded. But I’m being very picky with this and we weren’t there to comment when they were doing the work. Overall I’m extremely grateful for the job they’ve done. Sam, Lee, Adam, Jack, Szymon, Zach, Fern, and everyone else I dealt with were brilliant.
Absolutely fantastic service from this highly professional company. Worked exclusively removing our old stone driveway, converting it to Tarmac and was clean and tidy throughout the week. The team kept us up to date daily and went well over and above our expectations. You will not get a better quality product or service.
SGS reworked our driveway which wasn’t easy with a well and drainage issues. The previous owners of the property had laid concrete at all different levels and it was a complete mess. The team were professional and friendly throughout the project and Sam kept me up to date and we discussed the project throughout each stage. They also built a retaining wall around the bank to stop the dirt falling onto the drive. Prior to instructing SGS, I had struggled to find a firm that would actually provide a proper quote or listen to my thoughts as a female! One firm refused to speak to me and insisted on speaking to my “husband”. I would definitely recommend SGS and I will use them again for future projects of this nature. Fantastic.
SGS Surfacing - Five Star Review
We have just had a permeable asphalt driveway laid by SGS Surfacing. Our house is at the bottom of a long, sloping driveway that, following periods of intense rainfall, is prone to flooding. For this reason, we wanted the rather specialist water-permeable surface laid. From the initial consultation with Sam, it was obvious that he was an expert, and he explained fully the procedure required and the extra groundworks needed. The work began on time, and Jack, Szymon, Zach, Tim, Lee, Adam, and Joe were very professional, polite and respectful, and hardworking throughout, despite working at the height of a heatwave. Great attention to detail with the finishing of the edging and the new drains, etc. Based on our very positive experience, we would not hesitate to give this company 1 a 5* review and recommend them
We are really pleased with our new driveway. We had been let down by another company and SGS were recommended by a friend. They were able to do the work the following week, kept us up to date with when they would arrive and did an amazing job. The team were very friendly and professional and we highly recommend them. 👍
Disappointing after sales service
Back in July 2024 SGS re-surfaced our drive with a tarmac entry road and a tar and chip parking area at the end of the drive. So far so good . On completion I very promptly paid the balance of a total charge of £26k and requested a bag of fine chips to top-up any patches that might appear in the tar and chip finish. This was readily promised - but disappointingly not supplied despite 3 texted reminders and two telephone calls. Zero contact, zero communication from SGS. I think there is a lesson or two to be learned here as it marred what could have been a 5-star rating and a glowing recommendation to anyone in my area wanting a similar job done. It just looks like a satisfied tradesman saying "I've got my money - all £26,000 - and cant be bothered with any small favours" Am I right SGS ?

Sam and his team impressed right from the start. Good honest advice given at quoting stage and outstanding attention paid to works carried out. Courteous and responsible team of workers led by Lorne who communicated with us clearly at every stage and made sure his team were respectful of neighbours not just ourselves. Where are you Sam?
Recently I've had a very disappointing and frustrating experience with SGS.
It started well with an eloquent exposition by Sam Knight explaining how SGS differed from other companies and a well-informed response to my questions.
I was very impressed and we agreed a site visit on Monday 13th Nov3mber at 11am, which he confirmed on Google Calendar.
I arranged to stay a day longer locally in order to hold the meeting instead of returning to London on Sunday.
On the morning of the 13th I sent three messages confirming the meeting, the first of which was read at 07.27. None were answered.
Three of us convened to greet Sam, but 11am came and went with sign of him.
At 11.38 I WhasApped to say I was returning to London.
Since then I've left several messages on the SGS answerphone and called Sam's mobile which goes straight to voicemail. I tried again just now and it looks like he's blocked my number.
I even resorted to completing another enquiry form on the SGS website, but have received no response.
I'm really puzzled by this behaviour and simply cannnot understand it.
Maybe there'd been some accident or family tragedy which prevented Sam from making our meeting?
Or perhaps he simply forgot?
In these two cases I would have quite understood and simply re-fixed the meeting.
Especially as I'd given him such a glowing report on him to my colleagues.
So, finally I've resorted to writing this review which I hope will get his, or his colleagues' attention.
I just want to know he's ok, and hear his explanation.
And an apology would be nice.

Really chuffed with our new, extended driveway. Sam, Lorn and team were professional,
friendly and gave good advice.
They dealt with any unexpected instances quickly and calmly. They were clean and respectful workers. Would definitely recommend.
