I suffered a catastrophic workplace injuryāan incident that nearly claimed both my life and my right hand. I was struck by a 10-metre-long, 500kg steel column that fell from height, resulting in severe trauma to my hand, back, head, and neck. It took three surgeries, two weeks in hospital, and countless hours of rehabilitation to begin recovering. Youād assume that in moments like these, both your employer and the WorkCover system would support you. Unfortunately, my experience was the complete opposite.
From the very day of the injury, while lying on a hospital bed with my hand barely attached, my employer had the audacity to try and dissuade me from lodging a WorkCover claimāpromising instead theyād ātake care of me.ā What followed was nothing short of disgraceful.
