I do not like to write bad reviews because I am in the service industry as well and also do not like to read petty complains. I had this company come out because my lines got criss crossed when I had my filters and membrane changed out. Plus I have used them before. Their email said that the person coming out was an expert with more than a decade of plumbing experience. Not the case. I had to pay a higher labor charge because he stayed in the truck more than my house calling the owner for advice. This went on about 4 times. He also had to wait for a call back because he was at an event. I was charged $150 and not my problem he stayed longer because he was inexperienced and new with the company. He also said he had to take my membrane out and if I had another one. That cost me another $75 to just change it. I never understood why he had to change that out because I just did it. From the beginning he try to up sell me on a new system. He also asked where my water shut off was. He said he found it. He said you should never touch that. Like he was scaring me into another up sell. He put an auto shut off valve on the one tank which they had put one on another area of the system a year ago. Plus you pay the $89 fee just to show up. I thought my bill would be around $150 no more than $200. He first said $400 and I was in shock. It ended up being $360. I called in and talked to the receptionist and she said well he was there 2.5 hours and I told her why. I said I have cameras to prove it. She said said she would have a manager look into it and call me back. I honestly felt like they knew I was upset earlier and still did nothing at the time.

First, Sean has been a valued member of our team from 2020 to 2022. During that time, he left to further his plumbing career and gained additional experience working with several high-end plumbing companies. Sean is by no means new to this field. While he recently returned to Serv-All and is still familiarizing himself with some of our updated systems, I want to assure you he is a knowledgeable and skilled technician.
The reverse osmosis (RO) unit in question, a 3-stage GE model, is over 20 years old, and the tank is more than 12 years old. We recommended replacing the unit in 2025 and reiterated that recommendation this year.
Your system required a full overhaul because a friend attempted a filter change and caused additional issues. We were upfront about this both on the phone and in person. Our $75 fee for changing customer-supplied filters, as well as our service call charge, was clearly explained and agreed upon prior to the start of any work. The labor cost for reinstalling the system, $150, was also discussed in advance, in person, before work was performed.
Additionally, I want to address your claim about extra labor charges. Your job took almost three hours with drive time and work—far longer than the one and a half hours this job would typically require—solely due to the damage caused by your friend’s previous work. Despite this, we did not charge you any additional labor fees; you were only billed the amount originally agreed upon. This means no extra cost was added for the extended time, and your statement to the contrary is simply not accurate.
Regarding the membrane replacement, I want to clarify that you were not charged for this service — that statement is not accurate. All pricing, including any service charges, was discussed with you both over the phone and in person, and you agreed to them before any work was performed. The membrane was tested at over 400 because your friend hooked the system up backward, which is why we recommended it be replaced. In fact, we waived the cost of the membrane after you requested it, once the approved work was complete, and records show you were aware of this cost up front. We honored your request so you would have proper system function.
You also mentioned that our technician asked where your water shutoff was, located it, and advised you not to touch it. The reason for this advice is that it might be old, and attempting to operate it could require a professional plumber's attention if something goes wrong. Rather than trying to upsell or provide unnecessary quotes, our technician was simply looking out for your best interest and aiming to save you from a potentially costly repair. His comments were intended strictly as professional advice for your safety and to help you avoid extra expenses.
Regarding the phone calls to his supervisor, Jim, please know these were made to seek advice on how to best address the significant damage caused when your system was previously hooked up backward by your friend. The technician wanted to ensure he did everything possible to properly fix your unit, which is the standard any good technician should follow. Consulting with his supervisor was done solely to find the most effective solution for your system, not for any sales-related reason.
Each time we’ve been called out, it’s been because someone else attempted repairs on your unit, leading to further complications. Our team has been transparent about the system’s condition and the need for replacement, yet the decision to proceed with repairs rather than replacement has been yours.
At the completion of the service, you signed off that you were satisfied with the work and paid the invoice in full. Several days later, you called to express that you were still not satisfied with the charges. You stated that you only spoke with the receptionist, but you also spoke with, texted, and emailed the office manager, Michelle, to discuss these issues. She explained the costs again, as well as the discount you already received.
