A perfect weekend getaway
☺ Hosts were extremely welcoming, friendly and had a great sense of humour. Paul and Alan went above and beyond. Private entrance to room, wine on arrival and a night cap welcoming back after our day in Rye. Views amazing, decor beautiful and breakfast superb. A really lovely stay celebrating my partners 60th Birthday.
☹ There was nothing to fault.
Morning chats with Paul and Alan 😊
We arrived at the stunning Saltcote Place and found Paul graciously waiting outside to greet us and help with our luggage. Once inside we were invited into the most wonderful kitchen for a welcome drink and chat. Immediately, it felt like a home from home, with the most fun loving, knowledgeable and generous hosts. We were given lots of recommendations about what to see and where to eat. One of the highlights of our stay became our morning chats with Paul and Alan who cooked the most amazing breakfast. All in all we felt totally spoiled at Saltcote Place, and would very happily recommend this retreat to anyone wanting an unforgettable break!
Wonderful holiday in style
Our family had a fantastic stay during the festive season. We loved the intimate and elegant setting, with a variety of tastefully chosen kitchenwares, furnitures and ornaments decorated throughout the property. Alan and Paul were extremely friendly and paid attention to detail, and we felt being taken so well. I would highly recommend for any couples or family members (with elderly if you have) who wants a relaxing and country side feel of holiday in a great style.
A truly unforgettable experience
Describing Saltcote Place as a B&B would be a typical British understatement. In fact, you will be spending the night in an extremely unusual setting. The impressive property is accessed via an imposing driveway. The garden boasts stunning views of the River Rother, Walland Marsh and the Channel. Inside, Paul and Allen, the wonderful hosts, make you feel at home with their natural ease. Saltcote Place is an unforgettable experience. We have enjoyed Paul and Allen's wonderful hospitality before, and we will certainly be back — hopefully with other family members — to make this gathering a special experience. Five Bubbles for Saltcote Place!
Just wonderful
The hospitality began before we even reached the venue with a welcoming phone call from Paul to check on our expected arrival time and arrange to have a welcoming drink of our liking ready for us. We arrived at Saltcote to be greeted by the splendour of the beautiful property and Paul insisted on bringing all our bags in for us. We then got acquainted and enjoyed a glass of wine before being shown to our beautiful room which was both large and extremely comfortable. Every detail had been thought of to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The bed was simply the most comfortable I have ever slept in! Alan’s skills in the kitchen for breakfast were so fine and breakfast was a delicious affair. I ate three times what I would usually eat for breakfast and everything was prepared fresh to order. Paul and Alan were fantastic hosts with the most interesting life stories they shared with us and we left there with two new friends who we hope to keep in touch with. X
A well recommended stay in a welcoming country house comforted by a warm welcome
On arrival at Saltcote Place you are met by Paul who presents a magnificent country retreat. The house is tastefully presented and decorated with numerous well designed rooms and bedrooms. Each room was presented with comfortable furniture and wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Although we stayed out of season, the surrounding gardens were well kept and welcoming (perhaps in warmer times). Attention to detail and personal touches, along with a beautiful breakfast prepared by Alan, made a perfect stay. Located ideally for the town of Rye and the surrounding areas. A well recommended stay in a welcoming country house comforted by a warm welcome makes Saltcote Place a must stay.
Saltcote Place is a beautiful and peaceful venue, just a short walking distance from historic Rye. Leave your car securely and stroll down a quiet lane, onto the road to the Globe pub just minutes away where you’ll experience excellent service and good food and then a little further across the bridge to Rye town. Hosts Alan and Paul give you a warm welcome at Saltcote Place, rooms are light and airy with lots of chandeliers. Breakfast is tasty using quality ingredients.

Beautiful house and stunning peaceful location
Saltcote Place is a beautiful country house that is light and airy yet comfortable and welcoming. A great location just minutes walk away from The Globe pub (excellent service and great food) and the picturesque Rye town. As bird lovers we came to visit the Sussex Trust Reserve which is served by a free car park with toilets (donation if you so wish). The hosts Alan and Paul made us feel very welcome and are part of the Rye community and very knowledgeable and interesting people. Breakfast was delicious thank you Alan.
An absolutely delightful place to stay
Our stay at Saltclose Place in Rye was an absolute delight. We were welcomed by Paul and Alan who were so helpful and attentive without being intrusive. The breakfasts were superb. We had some very interesting conversations with Paul, Alan and other guests around the breakfast table. The fizz to accompany the breakfasts was a big treat as were the personal-choice nightcaps. The house and gardens are amazing and the accommodation within the suite we occupied was just perfect, comfortable and quiet. We really appreciated Paul and Alan’s advice on places to visit and restaurants to dine in during the evenings. There is so much of interest to see in Rye and the surrounding area including the charming, cobbled streets and the fish market in the town. We could have gladly spent more than five days at Saltclose Place.
Hospitality at Its Finest – A Rye Stay to Remember!
From the moment we arrived at Salcote Place, we felt completely at home. Paul and Alan are the perfect hosts – warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. Their hospitality is second to none; nothing was ever too much trouble. The house itself is stunning – full of character, beautifully maintained, and with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. Breakfasts were a real highlight: freshly prepared, delicious, and every bit as good (if not better) than what you’d expect from a top 5-star hotel. The location couldn’t be better. Just a short walk takes you right into the heart of Rye, with its charming shops, cobbled streets, and history. Excellent public transport links meant we were also able to easily explore further afield – Hastings and Battle were both just a short trip away. Salcote Place is more than just a place to stay – it’s an experience. We left feeling refreshed, spoiled, and already planning our return. If you’re visiting Rye, don’t even think twice – book here.
Staying at Salt Coat Place Hotel was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, Paul and Alan made us feel so welcome you can't leave without feeling like you have made 2 more friends — they are the loveliest and most attentive hosts you could ask for. The atmosphere is warm, family-oriented, and full of personal touches. Every detail of our stay was perfect, and you can really tell how much care they put into everything. 100000/10 would recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience. It is incomparable with anywhere you have been before, it's entirely unique and well worth it. Thank you so much for having me and my family Paul and Alan :-)

It's difficult to add more than the earlier comments express....it is an amazing experience staying at Saltcote Place.
I think the boys, Paul and Alan have drawn on their huge experience to deliver a stay like no other.
You are at most one of three room guests, out of a period Queen Anne residence with forty two rooms. From the moment you arrive you are treated as their most important guest; they preempt everything that contributes to you having the best experience of your travelling/exploring life.
Greeting: we had an enthusiastic tour of their Queen Anne residence and a drink to welcome us to their home...stunning.
The room: Super comfortable with tasteful furnishings, fresh fruit and a supply of morning drinks.
Breakfast: Set in a period designed kitchen with classical features. The menu and table would have graced the Ritz. Each day we enjoyed bubbles to start the 'event'....this was a social occasion and a chance to mix with other guests. I defy anybody to suggest anything not on their hot/cold menu. It was like flying Premium Class.
Touches: Somebody once said "You remember the steak (fillet) after you've forgotten the flight"; this is the essence of Saltcote....the decanters of whisky and brandy waiting outside your room in the evening...the touches at breakfast....the enthusiastic insights, suggestions, recommendations and phonecalls that make your stay special.
I suppose their previous guest list endorses everything described above, but that conversation awaits you should you decide on staying.
If you're looking for bowing and scraping, spas, bling, helipads and butlers standing motionless in the corners of your room...you won't get it, and this isn't for you.
Many thanks to Paul and Alan for one of those experiences that remind you that selfless and generous hospitality is alive and well...mixed in with humour and memorable moments...Bernie and Sue

One of our best three stays in forty four years.

Exceptional; surprising; different!
☺ The warmth of the greeting on arrival and the overall friendliness of our hosts. It felt more like a 'home' than a 'house' (or 'hotel')!
We have just returned from a superb two night stay at this unique venue. Beautiful location and wonderful hospitality - a real gem. Our visit has left us with such lovely memories. Many thanks. G&D.
