My partner sustained a life-changing injury while working for a multinational meatworks company in Brisbane where he had been employed for over thirty years, and after a botched back surgery through work cover he was left with permanent nerve damage and permanent ‘drop foot’, which completely altered the course of his life. After three decades of dedicated service, he found himself unable to continue in the job he loved, facing not only the physical loss of his active lifestyle—he had always been extremely fit—but also the emotional and psychological toll of daily medications, frequent specialist and rehab appointments, and the overwhelming challenge of adjusting to his new reality.
