This was the highlight of our trip to Reykjavík. Our taxi dropped us at the wrong part of the domestic airport so I called the number on the booking. The owner picked us up on his way to the hanger after he left home. My father and I took the tour while my mother stayed behind - she doesn’t like to fly and would not go. She said she had a lovely time talking to the owner while dad and I toured. The tour was simply amazing. The pilot was very knowledgeable and described everything as we flew over I and gave us a great tour by air of past and recent lava flows. Then he landed in the middle of the most recent eruption. It had rained earlier that morning and the area all around the hill we landed on was covered with steam as the rain boiled off. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience and I would highly recommend.

What a perfect time we had today -can’t thank you enough for keeping us up to date regarding the changeable weather. The Volcano helicopter tour with Ben, our very experienced pilot, was the highlight of all my travels over the years! To fly over the recently active volcanos & touch down for a few minutes to walk amongst the hardened lava was indescribable-sheer awe. Your company was recommended as the best because you are so professional & safe!

We didn't end up going on the tour as we wanted a full eruption tour and we also got stuck in bad weather in the Peninsula. They were great in working with us and keeping us informed throughout the week on conditions and even that day working with us at the last minute. I hope to get to use them in the future.
Volcano and Glacier Combo Tour 27th June 2025
It was the first time in a helicopter for the three of us and what an experience to initiate us.
Firstly, the booking process was fluid in communication, really informative and pleasant in tone with both Olga & Fridgeir. We never felt pushed or rushed to book anything. Everything was done at our pace.
When we arrived in Reykjavik, our booking was due to take place the day after and unfortunately, due to weather conditions, our flight was postponed. We understood this would be a possibility, hence why we booked at the beginning of our trip so that we had enough buffer time ahead for a rescheduling. This all worked in our favour as our flight successfully took place just a couple of days later.
Upon our arrival at the hangar, we were greeted by both Olga and Fridgeir. It was great to put names to faces. With our briefing completed, we met our pilots, Fannar and Tom. Great guys, who shared in our energy, humour and were chilled/relaxed while maintaining a professionalism that assured us we were in good hands. It was a personable experience.
The tour itself was spectacular. From scenic visuals of other-worldly-like landscapes to natural wonders of smoking erupted volcanos, ice-falls and the drifting tectonic plates. We were in a series of paintings and humbled by it.
We had one instead of two landings (due to our first being too dangerous: glacier conditions) among the masses of molten lava rock, still brittle within the edges and its volcano a short distance from us. Surreal and ethereal. Being naturists, this was incredible.
The entire episode was a once in a lifetime experience that we will cherish thanks to all of the variables falling into place. From the dramatic winds, rain, break of sunlight and the full-circle rainbow, to the team involved. Thank you.
P.S. Olga even drove us back to our base on the doorstop of our accommodation. Legend.

Best Helicopter Tour in Iceland
Amazing way to view Iceland. Only way to fully appreciate how nature has sculptured the landscape. Excellent and friendly flight crew and the helicopter is top of the line. They took us to remote locations that are only accessible by helicopter or hiking for a few days. Interesting commentary by the crew as we flew and when we landed at various sites. BEST value for the money. We are planning on a return trip and booking with them again. Thank you to the whole team for a great time!

once upon a time: it is exactly one year ago we had the pleasure to fly with you on our wedding day. We had an amazing time with you and your helicopter flying over the glacier, landing on ice, in stinking fog and seeing the amazing colors and landscape of Iceland from above. The tour was worth every cent and every minute. Today on our one-year anniversary we want to thank you a thousand times. Especially for the landing on the lava field and the surprise of pulling a bottle of sparkling wine from the luggage compartment. We did absolutely not expect to drink sparkling wine on a lava field in our lives. Thank you for treating us like a king and a queen: giving a hand trough the mud, carrying our jackets, taking pictures and explaining everything. And at latest when we looked into the bubbling volcano, we were speechless.
And since we lived happily ever after we will visit Iceland in October again. Thank you!

Incredible to Experience a volcano close up with all the majestic sights of Reykjavík and its beautiful surroundings.
This helicopter flight became the icing & cherry on what was already an incredible visit to Iceland! To see the volcanos and lava fields from the air was awesome. I was a solo traveler and booked just the day before for my flight of a lifetime. The ground crew were lovely and explained everything before we were handed over to Solveig, our pilot. She was extremely knowledgeable and shared much about the geological history of everything we flew over. Her flying skills were very impressive too! Half way through we actually landed and disembarked the helicopter. What an experience to walk so close to an active volcano , to feel the heated rocks underfoot whilst buffeted by sub zero winds, in brilliant sunshine. The whole trip was beyond epic . Solveig was happy to take photos , very handy when a solo traveler! I will never forget this experience and highly recommend it to anyone to be able to see the natural beauty that is Iceland close up but from the air. Just incredible.
Solveig took us up in the air and showed us the unparalleled beauty of the Icelandic landscape. Seeing the raw and imposing nature unfold before our eyes was a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Solveig is a lovely person and clearly a very experienced pilot in whose capable hands we felt very safe. Apart from that, she's also a knowledgeable guide who gave us many interesting insights in Icelandic life and culture. So all in all: a highly recommended experience!
This was the most amazing experience. Reykjavík Helicopters went above and beyond and their service is exceptional. It was my birthday and although we have done many tours in Iceland, we have never done a helicopter tour and decided to do the Volcano tour. You really can't beat seeing Iceland's wonderful landscape by air, and being able to get so close to the Volcano was truly special. The Volcano had stopped erupting but this gave us the opportunity to actually land on the lava field which was awesome, with the ground still warm! Flying over the blue lagoon was also amazing and we could see where the lava, still steaming, had flowed and where it had been successfully stopped from reaching the lagoon itself. From the moment we booked, Olga was really helpful and frequently kept in contact to keep us updated with the flight plan. We had some snow showers during our trip, so were not sure if we would be able to fly. Fortunately we got a green light and ended up having beautiful sunshine over a wonderful snowscape for our entire flight. Solveig, our pilot was brilliant, ensuring that we were all briefed on safety and provided really interesting information throughout our flight about the eruptions. She also swapped our seats round after we landed on the Volcano so that we all got different views during the flight and I was able to sit in the front seat on the way back to Reykjavik. We had fantastic views of the 2024 eruption crater and other craters as well as the most amazing aerial view of a snowy covered Reykjavik and Mount Esja. Thank you Reykjavík Helicopters for such a memorable tour and for your amazing service throughout. The whole experience truly exceeded our expectations and we would love to fly with you again, when we are next back in Reykjavik.
The most incredible experience. Reykjavík Helicopters went above and beyond to make our trip the best it could be. It was my daughter’s birthday and we had travelled from the UK. From the moment of our booking Olga was in contact to keep us informed of flight plans and we were so fortunate to have fair weather. Although we had never flown in a helicopter before we knew this was a once in a lifetime chance to see an active volcano closely and to experience the wonderous Icelandic snowscape.
