Life Changing
I had my weightloss surgery in feb 23 with Dr Atalla and team i have written a review earlier and had lost 25kg at that time with further support in march 24 Dr Attalla performed a tummy tuck for me having lost a further 10 or so kilos my journey has been around 18mnths and it has been a life changing experience i look awesome i feel a good 15 yrs younger than my 58yrs i cannot recommend Dr Atalla more to start your weightloss journey with đ„° He has changed my life in so many ways Dont sit on the fence go for it xxx Thank you so Much Betterlife surgery
Had Gastric Sleeve surgery with Mo Atalla in October 2023.
The whole process went very smoothly, not just down to his skills as a surgeon, but with the professionalism and care of him all his team. From initial consultation through to post-op follow ups, the holistic approach involving surgeon, dietician, nurse practicioner, and admin, provided all the advice and reassurance I needed (also had access to a psychologist through the practice, but didn't use).
There were no unwelcome surprises either financially or surgery-wise. A special mention to the Practice Manager, Marianne, who was terrific in keeping me completely informed throughout the process and handling any queries.
I was fortunate in that there were no complications (in no small part due to the above), but am sure that if there had been, they would have been very well handled.
I would recommend the procedure to anyone wanting to change their life with weight-loss surgery, and could not recommend Mo and his team more highly.

Mo is so attentive to his patients, talks you through everything, nothing left unsaid and makes you feel at ease, and Marianne WOW I adore her, she is available to assist at any time, she is so knowledgeable, caring and helpful, always makes herself available throughout the process.
They really are the dream team.
To them you are not just a number, they actually care about you, before during and well after surgery.
My surgery was much harder than Mo thought, it certainly tested his skills, but he did not give up on me and got the job done with great success.
One year on I am down 32kg and cannot be happier.
I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to look at having weight loss surgery.

I first saw Mr Atalla for a General Surgery procedure back in 2021. Even though I live in Melbourne I travelled to Echuca for the procedure as through research I found him to be the best at what he does. As my first point of contact, his Practice Manager Marianne was absolutely wonderful. The professionalism & information she provided whilst booking my appointment was also one of the reasons I chose him. Mr Atalla was amazing at my consultation appointment & Marianne was so kind & helpful. The whole process was smooth & put me at ease
Mr Atalla is now my go to General Surgeon for all general procedures. I couldnât recommend Mr Atalla & his Practice Manager Marianne enough.
Iâve spent years trying to find the right path toward being healthy & happy with myself. For a long time I was stuck on a loop taking me nowhere. I focused on medical labels that defined me as disabled thanks to my rheumatoid arthritis, (this was just an excuse to stay stuck). Then I found Mo Atallas website & decided to visit him & see what he could offer me. From the moment I walked into his rooms I felt at ease. His admin; Marianne has the friendliest personality & is so genuine & helpful.
Then there is Mo Atalla; now he doesnât offer any magic wand surgery, because there is no such thing. He offers the honest reality that he can help with surgery as a tool toward better weight & better health; but only if you are prepared to work hard on both body and mind.
Mo and his team helped me with the tools and the support to put the hard yards in.
Better Life Surgery helped me to find who I want to be, not just by losing 46kg with my gastric sleeve surgery, but by finding confidence in myself, getting my health back, adding years onto my life & most of all becoming a happier person again!

I couldnât have had a better experience with the Better Life Surgery team. I have reached my goal weight in 7 months after having the gastric sleeve. Mo and Maryanne have great attention to detail and are right onto everything including the paperwork aspect. I feel very grateful to the team for helping me turn my life around for myself and my family. I could not have done this without them.
I cannot recommend Dr Mo Atalla and his team (Marianne, Bec and Dietitian Janet) Highly enough. Itâs easy to say that having weight loss surgery is âlife changingâ and it is but, there is so much more to it than that. 4 years ago I have an old lap band removed by another surgeon on the Mornington Peninsula, and after returning home to Echuca became very ill and had to be hospitalized. Thankfully Dr Mo was on call and after hearing about the lap band removal he knew straight away that I had a leak in my stomach. I donât say this lightly that if he had not been in Echuca on call, I probably wouldâve died. Thanks to Dr Mo he operated on me to stop the leak. I still had to be airlifted to The Fawkner Hospital where I remained in the Critical Care unit for 8 days. It was the scariest time in my life. Fast forward 4 years and plucking up my courage I still wanted to have weight loss surgery. Between my husband and I there was only 1 surgeon that I would allow the do the surgery, Dr Mo Atalla. The care and attention that I have received from his whole team has been exemplary. I canât thank them enough for the amazing support they have given both myself and my husband. Dr. Mo is the most incredible surgeon and so professional and caring that I would say to anyone wanting/needing to have weight loss surgery, you could not be in better hands, literally. Obviously there is more to my story but, without writing War and Peace I just wanted people to know that you wonât regret it. My life is now so different to 6 months ago itâs still just amazing to us. As my husband said to Dr Mo, he is just happy to have his happy wife back again. Thank you all again.

Please consider other Bariatric Doctors or just get one of the new injections (probably better)
I couldn't recommend Dr Atalla and his group (except for Marianne who is sensational and Janet is lovely).
Literally pre-surgery - a few minutes before, while upstairs waiting to go in - I felt pressured by Dr Atalla to switch to the sleeve from the bypass. I have a mental health condition, which Dr Atalla knows about, he was in touch with my psychologist and had a very detailed history from me, I didn't want the sleeve but felt unable to say no to what felt to me as pressure to change.
I couldn't eat and went to see him and felt extremely brushed off. I was told not to eat meat and not to drink fluid close to meals.
Without going into the history this has been a complete nightmare.
Marianne was always outstanding. She should be paid ten times what she's getting.
The nurse he uses was shocking, I will be reporting her to AHPRA when I get more strength back for her terrible advice including taking me off all vitamins - despite not eating - and failure to follow up the next day or at all.
Janet was lovely but ineffective.
I have had nothing but trouble and have lost far too much weight. I am now well under what I should be at 18 months out. It was recommended by another specialist that they would not go and to see Dr Atalla again but see an expert in the bariatric field. I ceased my relationship with Dr Atalla at that time. Despite not getting basically any usable follow up - that I had paid for - I have received no refund.
When you are fat it sounds like a fantastic problem to have to be unable to eat and to have lost too much weight, but it is not. I would rather have never met Dr Atalla and still be fat than to have the problems I have today (and will likely continue to have because of the irreversible sleeve). The issue I have developed was never mentioned as a potential risk and would never have occurred if I had been given the bypass.

After going through my experience, and continuing to go through it, I have seen an excellent bariatric doctor and other specialists. They are out there. They are not Dr Atalla from what I experienced. You might have a great experience with Dr Atalla or you may be so unlucky as to end up in a situation like me. Please make sure you do your research.
What an absolutely amazing group of people to deal with. My journey started by going to a seminar in Echuca. I never thought someone just over 100kgs would be suited for this kind of weight loss surgery, but I'm absolutely glad I've had it done. I have lived with back pain for 12 years and been restricted with what I can and cant do. Since having surgery I feel like a new women. From the moment I met Marianne followed by Dr Atalla I felt safe and in good hands. I can not thank the amazing Dr Atalla enough for making me a new women.

It was a scary step but well overweight with heart problems and borderline diabetes it was something i really wanted to do for my wellbeing and its been a fantastic journey that i approached with a positive attitude one i will never forget from my first consultation with the amazing Dr Atolla who was very kind and wise to the great support from Bec on dietary needs and the cheery chats and support from Mary-ann the lovely admin lady that keeps it all moving smoothly pre-op and post -op support from Bec that was simple and not complicated , the surgery , recovery then post-op i wont say it was all a breeze but with the support from the team i kept motoring on looking toward the outcome and YES !!! Febuary was my surgery ive lost around 25kg my heart meds have been reduced my sugars are awesome i feel 10yrs younger and i must say đ look 10yrs younger too the best decision ever thank you so much to the team your Awesome !!!!
