I will give zero Stars if I could. My experience solely based on legal representation aside from my own personal divorce the legal representation was extremely passive my attorney with Buchanan law group was Rebecca LaRock. I had to contact her and nudge her to be assertive during my case she was passive in court hearings she did not advocate for me she did not speak up for me she sat quietly and waited until the judge asked her for her response to the other attorney who was highly aggressive and assertive I felt completely like my attorney was unprepared or simply did not care I wasted it over 15,000 refilling a $5,000 retainer which they make sure to email me and send me itemized list for every single phone call and every moment that I spent speaking with them when they did a horrible pathetic remedial job representing me in court I had to keep reminding my attorneys of what I wanted and in the end they delivered none of what I asked for in the beginning I was told one thing in the beginning which was my main reason for hiring them and in the end they kept stringing me along to take my money and did not deliver what they told me they were delivered to me in the very beginning not because they tried and failed but because they withheld information and decided to tell me in the end after I have wasted thousands of dollars that they could not assist me with what I wanted. Do not hire them I do not recommend them zero Stars. Oh and shortly after after I fired them Rebecca opened up her own law firm maybe this is why she appeared to not care about my case because she was focused on opening her own practice allegedly

Talked to Brooke Donagan for a consultation, and she was very polite and patient while listening to everything I had to say. She provided detailed, step-by-step guidance on how she and her team can help. I really appreciated how clearly she explained the process and made me feel comfortable throughout the conversation.

Bobby,
Your response only reinforces my concern that reviews like mine are not taken seriously. I worked directly with Rebecca LaRocque while she was employed by your firm for over a year. During that time, I paid over $20,000 with virtually no progress made on my case. What I received in return was an incomplete MSA, an incomplete Allocation, and a temporary child support order that was miscalculated.
Your firm’s bi-weekly billing for work that was either incomplete or not done at all is unacceptable. I sent multiple emails to you, Rebecca, and your billing department clearly outlining these concerns and questioning why I was being charged for work that wasn’t being properly completed. None of those emails were ever addressed, and your billing department was unable—or unwilling—to resolve anything.
Shortly after, I made the decision to terminate representation with your firm. I am more than willing to provide and attach every invoice and email to support everything I’ve stated, for full transparency to anyone considering your services. I have clear documentation repeatedly asking why I was being billed with no meaningful progress on my case.
Even opposing counsel expressed surprise at how my case was being handled. It felt unnecessarily prolonged, with no court date set, while fees continued to accumulate.
It is disappointing to see your firm avoid accountability by stating that Rebecca is no longer employed there. She was representing your firm when I hired her, and that responsibility does not simply disappear.
This experience was financially and emotionally draining. As a single mother, I trusted your firm to advocate for me, not to take advantage of my situation.

My experience with Rebecca LaRocque was so costly and stressful that I feel obligated to share it.
I hired her for what should have been a straightforward divorce, as my husband and I agreed on everything.
Instead, my case dragged on for a full year, and I spent nearly $20,000 with no meaningful progress.
I ultimately had to hire a new attorney just to finalize my case.
My Marital Settlement Agreement and Allocation Judgment were never properly completed despite being billed for extensive work.
Key provisions I repeatedly requested were never correctly added, even after multiple revisions.
Communication was poor, with canceled court dates not communicated and responses often vague or delayed.
I frequently had to follow up multiple times just to get basic answers.
Billing was also concerning, as I was charged high attorney rates for clerical tasks with little progress made.
After a year of delays and errors, including issues with my child support filing, I was left with no resolution and significant financial loss.

Dear apanna2011,
As one of the top divorce law firms in Illinois, it's very disheartening to receive a review like this.
We take every review very seriously and always seek to improve where possible.
PLEASE NOTE: Your attorney Rebecca LaRocque is not employed with our firm at this time.
Exceptional service is the standard that we hold.
Regards,
Bobby Buchanan

I don’t normally post long reviews, but my experience with Buchanan Law Group was so costly and stressful that I feel obligated to warn others. I hired this firm for my divorce case, which should have been straightforward since my husband and I agreed on everything. Yet my case dragged on for a full year, and I spent nearly $20,000 with nothing completed and no meaningful progress to show for it. I ultimately had to hire a new attorney just to finally close out my file.
The biggest issue was that the Marital Settlement Agreement (MSA) and Allocation Judgment were never completed correctly, despite being billed for more than 15 hours of “drafting,” “reviewing,” “revising,” and “case reviews.” Important components I requested such as the child schedule, true-up language, and a provisional clause were never added, even after months of corrections and repeated emails from me. I often received “revised” documents that looked nearly identical to previous versions.
Communication was poor throughout the entire case. I was never informed that a scheduled court date had been stricken. Whenever I asked questions by email, the responses were vague, incomplete, or evasive, forcing me to send multiple follow-ups just to get basic clarity. This made an already difficult time even more confusing and stressful.
The billing practices were some of the worst I’ve encountered. They bill bi-weekly, and the moment your retainer dips or you go a single week without replenishing it, you receive an email threatening that they will file a motion to withdraw from your case. Meanwhile, they burn through your retainer performing constant “case reviews” and “review settlement emails” that resulted in zero progress. It often felt like they were billing for the sake of billing not to move the case forward.
I was also charged attorney rates for blatantly clerical tasks like:
– Adding a case number
– Saving documents
– Gathering and emailing files
– Basic filing tasks
These were billed at $325/hour, which is shocking considering the lack of actual legal progress.
Perhaps the most serious issue was the mishandling of the SDU and child support filing. The paperwork was submitted incorrectly, which caused delays in my child support payments. I had to notify the firm that payments were not being processed due to their errors and then I was billed for their responses about the issue that they caused.
After a year of constant “case reviews,” vague explanations, incorrect filings, and thousands of dollars wasted, I still did not have a completed MSA or Allocation. I ultimately had to hire a new attorney to finish what this firm never did.
My experience with Buchanan Law Group and Rebecca LaRocque was extremely disappointing and financially draining. If you are considering this firm, please proceed with caution and monitor every invoice, every draft, and every communication. I genuinely wish someone had warned me before I spent so much time, money, and emotional energy with so little to show for it.
