Alfonso at pvbirding is amazing! I hired Alfonso to take my wife and I on a private half-day birdwatching experience in Bucerias. We met him at 7 am and he took us first to a location just a few miles from town after a quick stop to pick up a couple coffees. His knowledge about the birds and ability to spot them was truly impressive and beyond my expectations. He named them all, explained their characteristics, behaviors, preferred habitats, and more. He knew exactly where to look to spot the different birds and recognized their calls. After amazing us at the first location, he took us to a 2nd location about 20 minutes away in Careyeros where we saw even more. Beyond his bird knowledge, Alfonso was a wonderful person to spend the day with. He was very personable, funny, interesting to talk with, and enjoyable to get to know. After our birding tour we went to a nice restaurant overlooking the ocean for lunch where we continued our great conversations with him. I highly recommend Alfonso at pvbirding if you have the opportunity. He was the highlight of our vacation.

Highly professional and friendly; an excellent birder Alfonso picked us up at our hotel and took us deep into the Sierra Madre (despite local flooding in PV). He is highly educated and knowledgeable not only about birds but also about the ecology and conservation in this part of Mexico. Despite intermittent rain, we saw numerous bird species. We found him to be highly personable and attentive to our preferences. It was a very enjoyable and educational day. Later Alfonso sent us a list of birds observed.

PV Birding Tour Our group had the privilege to meet Alfonso during our short 1-day stop over in Puerto Vallarta. He set up a custom birding tour visiting Rancho Primavera and the Botanical Gardens. His is very passionate about the local environment and has an excellent knowledgeable of the local bird species. Logistic support was effortless and very efficient. He speaks English fluently and is a very safe driver.Although Rancho Primavera was a 45 min drive from PV, it was an outstanding site for bird photography. We had the most wonderful experience with Alfonso! I am a novice bird watcher, and my cousin, who came, knows nothing about birds. We both did the jungle expedition, and we had a blast! Alfonso is very knowledgeable about the birds of the area. He is also very passionate about his craft, which made the experience even better! I was able to add so many new species to my checklist, including the pale-billed woodpecker! I highly recommend Alfonso as your next birdwatching guide :)

Good birding! I had limited time for birding and thanks to Alfonso I did the most of it! From early morning to noon, I had the opportunity to see the elusive Citroline and Elegant Trogons, Russet-crowned Motmot, Orange-breasted Bunting, Ivory-billed Woodcreeper, Sinaloa Crow, Bat Falcon and add 12 lifers in only few hours. Alfonso picked me up from my hotel and drove me to the birding area and guided me very efficiently to locate the birds. Very good knowledge of local endemic birds, excellent English and great company. Highly recommended!

Great day birding with Alfonso! What a fun day, out early walking the rural areas of Punta de Mita. Found some of our target birds (elegant and citreoline trogon), got great views and photos of many others and a wonderful flyover of a Black Hawk Eagle. Experience 10/10! Expert, friendly and safe guide. I have shared aviturism activities with different guides and the experience with Alfonso has been totally extraordinary for different reasons:1.- It has a deep knowledge about the characteristics of the species of the region as well as their behaviors and all the time explains what it is that you are observing, where it is the best place to do the observation, etc. The language he uses adapts it to the level of the group so the understanding of what is being observed all the time is clear whether you are a beginner or an expert, his explanations are friendly and fun and without problem either in English or Spanish. 2.- Know and imitate! some of the vocalizations of some birds and the most amazing thing was to see how the bird in question answered the call. Also during the tour he gave us relevant information about the characteristics of the forest, the plants, the rock formations, the history of the place, etc... which is very enriching since you get a bigger picture of the place we are visiting.3.- All the time emphasizes the importance of not generating stress in the observed species and is always attentive for you have doubts to use your binoculars or photographic equipment, also makes safety recommendations, can drop by to pick you up at your hotel and knows very good places to go to eat once you finish the tour to have a 10/10 day!We are definitely ready as soon as I open the calendar for whale watching to schedule our date!

Safe, resourceful, and joyful guide We had such a good time on a three day tour in January 2025 with Alfonso that we returned in April for more birds at Rancho Primavera and a two-day side-trip to San Sébastien del Oeste. His location choices, pacing, and restaurant options seemed tailored to us and Alfonso modified things to meet emergent desires. Another thing that sets Alfonso apart - he is very risk adverse! You will be safe at every step!

Good energy, knowledgeable and fun Alfonso and I went on a birding trip with a few target birds as our goal. He picked me up from my hotel early in the morning and off we went to Monkey Mountain. We walked through areas that Alfonso was familiar with and anticipated finding our target birds. As anything with wildlife goes, sometimes you are lucky and sometimes not and the road we were on was not very productive. Walking back to our starting point we decided to continue in a different direction (not where he had planned to go) and it turned out to be fantastic! Not only did we find our target birds but had the pleasure of close up and clear viewing with great opportunities for taking photos. We were also treated to a flyover by a rarity (Black Hawk Eagle). We went for a delicious lunch in Punta de Mira and overall had a good day. Thank you Alfonso for your efforts and having the flexibility to try new areas. We got very lucky.
