Ben is just brilliant. My two boys (14 and 11) absolutely love him. They can’t wait for their sessions and always come out buzzing. It’s not just Ben’s approach to fitness and training but he’s also very funny. Getting fit with humour is a win win. I just wish we’d found him sooner! I cannot recommend him enough. He’s brilliant with my boys who are now so much more confident in themselves. Thank you Ben. We owe you so much!

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for the kind words.

I'll be honest, working with under-16s wasn't something I ever saw coming. I'm not exactly known for my love of kids!
But watching many continue to get stronger, build confidence, and actually enjoy the process has become one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

It's great to hear the boys are coming out of the sessions buzzing.
That's a real testament to them and to how they continue to approach our sessions: pushing themselves and being open to learning and feedback at that age aren't a given.

Seeing 11- to 15-year-olds get stronger and build confidence and watching that carry over into life outside the gym and school is what makes it worthwhile. They should be proud of themselves!

The humour is purely accidental, but if it keeps them coming back, everyone wins!

I joined Push Pull Health for fairly shallow reasons; I wanted to look better, and I'd spent long enough scrolling through conflicting online advice on how to do that without actually doing anything about it. I'm 31, and I work as a Nurse Long shifts, unpredictable breaks, and more meals grabbed on the go than I care to admit. I'd tried commercial gyms before, but never felt like I belonged there. Too much noise, too little guidance, and no real idea whether anything I was doing was actually working. A lot of what I'd picked up from social media about training and food turned out to be either overcomplicated or just plain wrong. I'd tried tracking calories before with mixed results. It either took over my life completely, or I'd abandon it after a week, now more demotivated. Using a simple app alongside Ben's practical guidance made the difference. Small, manageable tweaks that actually fitted around shift work rather than assuming I had a normal routine. I have IBS, so pre-workout nutrition had always been a minefield, especially around unpredictable shifts. Working out what actually fuelled my sessions without causing problems was something I'd never had proper help with before, and it made a noticeable difference. The location on Station Road is great, with off-street parking, and the small group sessions fit around my schedule without becoming another thing to stress about. It was easy enough to get to from Whitstable, first thing in the morning or after a long shift. The results I noticed first were the obvious ones: getting stronger, clothes fitting better. But what's stayed with me is less visible. My relationship with food is healthier. The stress that used to follow me home has somewhere to go now. I feel more like myself again.

Hi Lisa,

Thanks a bunch for this, and for being honest about where you started.

Managing IBS alongside the demands of a paramedic's schedule is no small thing.

Unpredictable shifts, long hours, and not always knowing when or what you'll eat next make getting nutrition right genuinely difficult, let alone figuring out what you can tolerate before training without it becoming a problem.

Supporting you with managing your IBS and making realistic nutritional tweaks that actually improved your energy, strength, and enjoyment of the sessions was one of the more satisfying things we've worked through together.

The fact that the changes have extended beyond the gym, your relationship with food, stress, and feeling more like yourself, is exactly what consistent, personalised small-group strength training should do.

It's a pleasure having you at Push Pull Health in Herne Bay and I appreciate continuing to make the journey from Whitstable!

See you in the next session! 💪

Before finding Ben at Push Pull Health, I'd never seriously considered joining a gym. Chronic back pain and carpal tunnel made lifting weights seem like a guaranteed way to make things worse. I assumed gripping, pushing, or even basic movements would only aggravate things. But having a setup that addresses those issues, rather than ignoring them, has made an enormous difference. The small-group sessions in the private studio meant everything could be tailored to me. I wasn't expected to push through pain or fit into some unrealistic mould. Every exercise was built around what I could do. My husband Paul and I have been training for about six months now. My back still flares up occasionally, but it's happening less often, and I'm finally getting stronger without making things worse. Getting up and down is easier. I feel stronger, and my confidence continues to grow along with the belief that I can keep pushing myself and making progress, even while managing pain. I'm slowly working towards a personal goal: doing an unassisted bodyweight pull-up. Before joining the gym, I started on GLP-1 medication to support weight loss, but the real goal was building a routine I could maintain without relying on it long term. I’ve finally found an approach that works with my body, not against it.

I never pictured myself joining a gym. Six months ago, after starting to try Wegovy and seeing some early results, it felt like the right time to build on that progress. I was in a better physical and mental place to start thinking about exercise again. But I had no clue which exercises were safe or how much I should be eating. Even though my appetite had reduced, I realised I was mostly eating less of the same food. Being a taxi driver in Herne Bay, doing airport drops and pick-ups means I spend most of my day sitting. This makes moving regularly difficult, and meals are at the mercy of what's on the route or what I can quickly grab on location. But the setup with Push Pull Health on Station Road fits around my day job rather than clashing with it. I've been able to start small and build from there. The small-group sessions in the private studio work well with my schedule, and training alongside my wife, Emmie, has kept us both consistent and motivated. The biggest shift was realising I don't need to smash multiple workouts or chase perfection. Training twice a week consistently, plus moving more day to day, has been enough. Even getting in and out of the car feels easier now. I have now finished taking Wegovy but more importantly, I’m building habits that mean I don’t need it. I didn't want to fall back into old habits, so continuing to work with Ben is helping me avoid that cycle.

Cheers Paul!

You and Emmie have been great to work with–both in the gym and just getting to know you over the past six months. Starting Wegovy was a big step, and navigating the transition into maintenance as you continue to build lifelong habits is where it really counts.

I appreciate you both trusting me to help with that.

The mindset shift you mentioned, realising you don't need perfection or endless sessions, is huge!

Training twice a week consistently, plus moving more day to day, beats sporadic perfection every time. Airport runs and long shifts don't make consistency easy, but you've made it work.

You two keep each other honest, which makes all the difference. Lucky for Emmie, you don't let her bail on a session!

On we go.

Thanks, Emmie!

You and Paul have been brilliant to train and get to know over the past six months.

Navigating the transition into maintenance as you continue to build lifelong habits is where it really counts. I appreciate you both trusting me to help with that.

Managing chronic pain while getting stronger isn't straightforward, but you've done it by working with your body rather than against it. The pull-up goal is perfect; functional, meaningful, and you're chipping away at it week by week.

Really glad the small group setup works for you both. Training together means you can't let each other skip sessions, which is built-in accountability at its finest!

On we go.

I’m 71, and I could feel my strength starting to drop. I’d tried other public gyms years ago and found them intimidating. They were big, empty spaces where nothing was clear, and people weren’t terribly helpful. After that experience, I avoided trying again. My worries were the usual ones: What if I overdo it? What if I hurt myself? What if this is like the last time? What made the difference here wasn’t motivation–it was the environment. It’s a private, intimate space with a small-group personal training setup, and it was easy to get started. This has been a completely different experience from any gym or personal training I’ve tried before. I don’t see this as a hobby. I see it as an investment in my health. Not the flashy kind, instead, the kind that pays you back slowly in energy, confidence, and strength. It’s helped me feel more confident and independent in my everyday life. Carrying shopping bags feels easier. Walking feels steadier. Every day tasks don’t wipe me out anymore. The bit I didn’t expect? I actually started enjoying it. I’ve also recently become a grandmother. That wasn’t the reason I started, but it’s certainly added to why staying strong matters to me. My goals remained the same; I just gained another very good reason to keep going. If you’re getting older and already noticing a drop in strength or confidence with everyday tasks, Push Pull Health is a safe place to start. My advice would be to take the plunge and give it a go. You’ve got nothing to lose.

Thanks so much, Angie! I really appreciate you sharing this.

You’ve summed up what Push Pull Health is all about: creating a welcoming, private studio space in Herne Bay where people can rebuild strength, confidence, and independence, even if it’s been years since they last stepped foot in a gym.

It’s been brilliant seeing how consistent you’ve been with the small group personal training sessions, and how quickly you’ve felt those changes in everyday life, from walking and shopping to feeling more stable and energised overall.

That’s exactly why this isn’t just about fitness. It’s about strength for life, especially as we get older.

And with a new grandchild in the mix, you’ve now got even more reason to stay strong, active, and pain-free for the long haul.

You’ve been a joy to coach, and a reminder that it’s never too late to start.

I’ve never really been a gym person. After years away from swimming and with anxiety around starting something new, the idea of walking into a busy public gym felt overwhelming. At the same time, I was preparing for career opportunities that require fitness testing (including the dreaded beep test), so I knew I had to rebuild my fitness. Working night shifts and irregular hours made that even harder — I needed something flexible that wouldn’t add more stress. Training with Ben at Push Pull Health has completely changed how I approach fitness. Starting with 1–1 sessions in a private studio gave me the space to build confidence, learn the basics properly, and ease my anxiety before moving into small group training. Ben’s support, structure, and understanding have made all the difference. Being able to train around my schedule and use the app for home workouts means I can still show up, even when I’m tired, anxious, or not sleeping well. The biggest change has been consistency — not perfection. I feel stronger, fitter, and more capable than I have in years, and for the first time, my training actually supports my mental health as well as my physical goals. I’m still working towards where I want to be, but I know I’ve found a setup — and a coach — that truly works with my lifestyle, not against it.

Thanks so much, Hollie. I really appreciate you putting your trust in the process.

It’s been brilliant seeing you build momentum these past few weeks. With your shift work, changing schedule, and everything else on your plate, just getting started can feel like the hardest bit, but you’ve done exactly that.

Starting with 1-1 sessions has given us time to focus on the basics, and I’m looking forward to you moving into small-group training when the time’s right. You’ve been consistent, adaptable, and focused, especially as we work on building up your stamina and fitness for that dreaded bleep test.

I’m glad the private studio setup and flexible approach, including using the Push Pull Health App for extra personalised sessions, has made everything feel more doable. things feel more manageable. Having something that fits into your routine and supports both your physical and mental wellbeing–can make all the difference.

You’re doing brilliantly.

Keep going!

I have not worked out in any way for years and decided to join ben, I have been going for about 10 weeks now and have noticed the difference already, my balance is better, I have more strength and stamina and I really do enjoy going along to the sessions with Ben, I'm an older lady so have some health problems but ben works with me and listens to what I have to say rather than getting me to do what everyone else does he understands we are all at different levels and abilities I would totally recommend ben to everyone of all ages.

Hi Liz,

Thanks so much for the lovely words and for trusting Push Pull Health to guide you back into training after some time away.

It’s been brilliant seeing your balance, strength, and stamina improve over the last 10 weeks, and even better to see you actually enjoying the sessions. That’s the bit people don’t believe is possible when they start!

I’m glad the small group personal training format in the private studio works for you. Everything we do is built around adapting to the individual—no matter your age, health conditions, or experience.

Improving balance and strength is one of the best things you can do for fall prevention and long-term confidence.

Thanks again for recommending Push Pull Health and for showing others that it’s never too late to get started!

Ben is amazing - he really makes you feel comfortable with your body and your sessions are tailored to you. Very easy parking, very clean gym with lots of lovely new equipment. He explains everything - keeps you motivated during the sessions and encourages you all the way. If you're looking for some personal help and lots of encouragment and laughter then Ben's your guy.

Thanks so much, Carolynn. I really appreciate the kind words.

With your background in yoga, strength training was something a bit different, but you took to it brilliantly. It’s been great having you in the small group sessions — pushing hard, but always within your limits, and making sure everything we did was adapted where necessary to work with your body, especially being mindful of your previous frozen shoulder issues.

The goal has always been to create a private, clean, and fully equipped space in Herne Bay where people can actually enjoy training, even with injuries, hang-ups, or past horror stories.

Howdy Gaynor,

It’s been brilliant to see your strength come back after injury. You stayed consistent, showed up, and trusted the process.

Small group personal training works best when it’s built around you—with expert coaching, support, and the confidence that what you’re doing is both effective and safe.

The goal isn’t just to recover. It’s to build a routine you can stick to for the long term.

For anyone in Herne Bay or Whitstable who’s on the fence about joining another gym, the 30-Day ‘Sample the Goods’ Trial is a great way to see what training in a private studio actually feels like. No crowds. No guesswork. Just progress.

Thanks again, Gaynor. See you in the gym!

Like many people in their 60s, I started to notice some changes: my knees felt stiffer, my back ached more, and I didn’t feel quite as strong or steady as I used to. I’m a keen sea swimmer, which has helped me stay fit, but it hasn’t done much for the pain or helped me rebuild strength where I need it. I’d followed Ben’s posts for a while, but with a hectic work schedule, the timing never felt right. Regular gyms always felt a bit too much. Busy, intimidating, and geared towards younger people and bodybuilders. It was one of Ben’s posts about building strength and mobility to help prevent falls that finally pushed me to get in touch, and I’m so glad I did! The small group personal training at Push Pull Health in Herne Bay has been a breath of fresh air. 1-1 personal training never appealed to me, and I’d never done strength training before - so training in a small group with people my own age, dealing with similar injuries and hesitations, was ideal. The sessions are still tailored to your needs, just without the pressure of being the only one in the room. I’m now doing things I haven’t done in years - or ever! Jumping, hopping, and stepping onto high boxes while holding weights. It’s made a real difference to how I feel on a day-to-day basis. If you’re over 60 and feel like you’ve lost a bit of strength or confidence in your body, this is 100% worth trying. The private studio, the supportive coaching, and the cost-effective small group setup make it a genuinely welcoming space—without the chaos of a commercial gym. You’ll build strength, improve balance, and move better—while training in a way that actually supports your long-term health. You might never love going to the gym or lifting weights, but you’ll love feeling stronger, more capable, and ready for whatever ageing throws at you.

Howdy Kate,

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to leave a review. You nailed why Push Pull Health exists!

Most people in their 60s aren’t told the truth: strength fades slowly until everyday stuff gets harder—stairs, balance, even getting up off the floor. That’s why what you did matters. You didn’t wait for a fall or another injury; you got ahead of it.

You didn’t need one-to-one coaching. You needed structure, support, and a setup that made strength training doable without the pressure of a commercial gym. That’s what Small group personal training provides: training alongside people your age, working around similar injuries, building confidence, and getting stronger.

The results? Now you’re doing things most people assume are off-limits after 60, jumping, stepping onto high boxes, and lifting heavy weights off the floor!

You might never love the gym or lifting weights. But you’ll love what getting stronger lets you keep doing.

Keeping fit for purpose and enjoying life pain-free.

Thanks again, Kate. You’re just getting started!

I am always a bit nervous about new people and I had never really done well with male personal trainers in the past, but Ben is amazing. So calm and easy going but really knows his stuff. I had been suffering from a tendon injury when I started going to Ben. It has significantly improved and my legs have have got stronger . I have also improved my upper body strength and core strength. I can highly recommend Ben, I always feel better after my training sessions. His sessions have a relaxed atmosphere we always listen to music and talk about life and the universe and the time flies by. If you are considering starting I would honestly say just do it, you will feel so much better. To give you some context I am a 61 year old woman so you don't have to some kind of gym bunny to benefit from Ben's expertise.
Reply from Push Pull Health 2025.07.17
Hi Rosey,

I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

Starting something new is never easy, especially when past experiences with male personal trainers haven't been a good fit. So hearing that you've felt comfortable, stronger, and supported in our sessions means a lot.

It's been brilliant watching your progress, seeing your tendon injury improve and your strength build across your legs, core, and upper body.
That's what consistent strength training in the right environment can do.

We keep things simple and relaxed here at Push Pull Health—small group and 1-1 personal training in a private studio with structure, support, and a space where you're not judged for taking your time or doing things your way.

You don’t need to be a gym bunny. You just need a setup that meets you where you are—and a coach who listens.

For anyone in Herne Bay, Whitstable, or Canterbury who's nervous about starting, especially if you've had a few false starts or bad experiences, Rosey's proof that strength training for women over 60 doesn't have to feel intimidating.

Thank you for putting up with my questionable music choices!

I’ve always enjoyed being active, especially running. However, over time, knee and lower back pain began to develop. I cut back on the running and began working with a physio, which helped in the short term. Still, I needed something more consistent to build strength and avoid further setbacks. I'd been to gyms before, but never stuck with them. I lacked confidence, and without a clear plan, it always felt like guesswork, like nothing I was doing was actually helping. Since joining Push Pull Health, I’ve been following a structured strength programme designed around my needs, with exercises that complement my physio and support long-term recovery. It’s already helped ease the discomfort in my knees and back, while building strength that carries over into daily life. Training alongside my wife, Kathryn, has been a real bonus. Even though we’ve very different goals, the small-group personal training setup means every session remains tailored to each of us. You still get proper coaching and personal attention in a relaxed, supportive environment—not a loud or overwhelming gym. Ben also helped us design a simple, yet effective, home routine using minimal equipment, making it easy to maintain momentum outside the private studio. If you’re working around injuries, want to continue doing what you enjoy—like running or need a routine tailored to your body and lifestyle, I highly recommend Ben and Push Pull Health’s small group training in Herne Bay. It’s the first time I’ve felt like I’m training with purpose, and it has become a routine that I can actually stick with for the long term.
Reply from Push Pull Health 2025.07.17
Hi Keith, Thanks for this!

I'm glad the setup's working well for you and Kathryn.

It's been great to see how strength training in our small group personal training sessions has supported your physio and helped ease the knee and back issues. You've shown exactly what happens when you train consistently, with a programme built around your body, not someone else's idea of what fitness should look like.

Getting your home setup sorted has been a big bonus too—training outside the studio with minimal kit. It's also an excellent long-term option for anyone wanting to stay consistent between sessions (and who doesn't fancy braving a busy gym anytime soon!).

For anyone in Herne Bay, Whitstable, or Canterbury who thinks personal training is only for athletes or gym addicts, Keith's progress shows that with the proper structure, support, and a clear goal, it's absolutely possible to train for the long haul.

See you in the gym!

Hi Keith,
Thanks for this!

I'm glad the setup's working well for you and Kathryn.

It's been great to see how strength training in our small group personal training sessions has supported your physio and helped ease the knee and back issues.
