Fugir dos grandes hotéis e resorts onde há disputa por lugares na piscina, guarda sol ou bar. É exatamente oposto. Está tudo lá pra você. E apesar de nosso inglês ser pior que ruim, foram muito atenciosos e nos entendemos bem. A comida surpreendeu, lagosta na chegada, uau… nossas férias de 28 dias aqui no México passamos 4 hotéis e Resorts, Hard Rock inclusive, e temos Holbox pela frente ainda, mas esta experiência foi a mais marcante até agora. Inesquecível.

Playa Sonrisa is one of those rare places that defies easy description. Our perfect was a polished, all-inclusive luxury resorts. This is something quieter, simpler, and more meaningful. This was an unforgettable experience—and one we will definitely be returning to. We weren’t naturists and unsure about the clothing-optional aspect, but there was no pressure—only acceptance. You simply exist in your own skin. The setting is peaceful and unspoiled, with nature setting the pace. Blaine and Steve have created something truly special—authentic and full of warmth. Playa Sonrisa doesn’t pretend to be something its not. I found a piece of me I lost many years ago, we’ve been married a long time and we left reconnected with a deeper sense of us than ever before. Playa Sonrisa doesn’t try to impress. It offers space, to relax reconnect, rediscover and enjoy what really matters.

Finally found paradise
What an incredible place- we flew to a Tulum and rented a car for the 3 hour drive. We actually arrived at night which was a bit of a challenge at times ( easy but being new to this , we had second guessed a few roads)However once we got to those gates .. it was heaven. Host are as personable and passionate about their property. Everything was well cared for and looked perfect. The daybeds were my favorite place to lay during the day- with occasional walks to the bar for some Sol beer before napping or swimming in the pool or off the pier. This is a place where you can unplug ( they have WiFi) and do nothing. However if you want - there’s an incredible reef just off shore to snorkel to. - also kayaks, paddle boards etc. we are returning again in October. It’s just so amazing !!
This was the perfect place for my wife and I to celebrate 31 yrs of marriage. Small, quiet, and relax atmosphere. No TV's in the room but the breeze going threw our beach cottage! No better way to reconnect with your spouse. Food was prepped by staff daily, and the snorkeling was amazing!
Playa Sonrisa, run by Steve and Blaney, is in a completely unspoilt area on the Caribbean coast, miles from anywhere and with no signs of tourism whatsoever.
It is very small and friendly, with only room for 6 couples, (plus a few extra in rented rooms next door) so you soon get to know everyone. Steve is a "retired" builder, but clearly not retired as he built the pier, complete with places to sit at the end, and perches for the visiting pelicans - a delightful treat. He also built a tree house where you can take your lunch, and look down between the palm fronds; a very private and special place.
If you take the full board option, which you will need to do if you don't hire a car, it includes a cooked breakfast, takeaway sandwich for lunch, and full evening meal, often centered on sea food as nearby Xcalak is a fishing village. That said, one evening we ate fish caught by Steve himself! Coffee is available all day, but if you want a decent cup of black tea, forget it! They don't exist in Mexico. Even tea bags are hard to get hold of, Blaney said!
Wildlife includes glorious frigate birds circling overhead, pelicans coming and going all day, and my favorite, hermit crabs scurrying up the path and around the kitchen floor at night! Blaney took us to watch them, which was a real treat. There were dozens of them! The only unpleasant wildlife was Pete, the resident Grackle, who was not welcoming at all, and occasionally swiped your head with its wings. Other minus points was the sargassum, floating algae that had washed up on the beach and made walking along it impossible. It was all along the coast. Also, the sea was a bit too shallow to swim in without hitting your feet on the bottom if you do breast stroke. You will need to wear swim shoes, provided next to the kayak rack, as there are sharp rocks on the bottom.
If you are put off by other reviews about the state of the road full of potholes, know that Steve and Blaney took the initiative to gather a lot of money from all the neighbors and got the road fixed recently, filling in the pot holes and making the drive much easier.
Snorkeling trips and massages can be arranged. On the longer snorkeling trip, you get to explore an inland waterway through the mangroves, with Mexico on one side and Belize on the other. That was an unexpected bonus. The massages are given in the open air under the palm trees, by two ladies who visit.
Altogether a very relaxing holiday, way off the beaten track. Let's hope it stays that way!
Playa Sonrisa is a real gem - situated in a remote part of Mexico on the Caribbean coast, the resort is an off-grid clothing optional paradise. The owners, Steve and Blanie are the best hosts making you feel very welcome in this quiet spot right on the beach with rustic but comfortable rooms.This is the place to visit if you want a truly relaxing vacation interspersed with activities like kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, snorkeling and fly fishing. Or, you can just grab a beer and relax on the beach perfecting your all over tan, sleep or read in one of the hammocks between two coconut trees, and even get a massage.
My wife and I visited in early March and there was lovely sunshine, a cooling wind, with the occasional warm rain shower.
The hut was as expected, right on beach with view of ocean. The food was great. Location was quite remote and either have to hire a driver or rent a car. Perfect place to just relax. Blakey and Steve would join us for a cocktail in evening and ask how everything is going. Great small resort for naturists

Playa Sonrisa, reconnect and relax
The resort is small, intimate and remote. It was first time for my husband and I to go to a naturist resort. It is not a “lifestyle” place so we loved it. We selected the hut right on beach which was perfect, listening to the sound of the waves was relaxing. Lots of places to lay and relax, play some cornhole and enjoy meals with the other guests, like a family would, if you wanted.

Un paraiso naturista!!! Alejado del bullicio de las ciudades y playas llenas de turistas. Un gran descanso. La atención de los propietarios tan dedicada, hacen una gran experiencia. La comida es deliciosa y el trato de los empleados del lugar es muy amigable.
La nueva estación del tren en limones harán mas fácil el acceso, asi como el recorrido para llegar al paraíso.

My wife and I went to Playa Sonrisa for my birthday. And what a great birthday it was. Thanks to Delaney and company this is a birthday to remember. Such great people. Delaney made a birthday cake for me, and we all had some. What fun!
The other guests were also naturists and some of the friendliest people we have met.
We had a beach front bungalow. Cool breeze in the evening made sleep easy and enjoyable. Walk out the door and see a truly breathtaking sunrise. Breakfast is tasty and filling. Lunch is sandwiches and chips. I love a good sandwich. We opted to get dinner also. And it was always tasty. Wine is by the bottle as is the beer. All priced well.
We never felt like any of the food or drink was overpriced.
I got to cross two things off my bucket list; to be textile free, on a beach, on my birthday, with a margarita (great cocktail Delaney!) and to dance on a beach under a full moon.
We also booked a massage on the beach. It was over way too soon.
This is not an all-inclusive mega resort. While those are enjoyable (they better be for the price) I enjoyed Paya Sonrisa more than any of the spendy mega resorts at 1/6th the price.
Downside: NOT A THING. Well Maby a bit of a drive.
Only regret: Not staying two more days and skipping two days in Tulum.
If you are a naturist Paya Sonrisa is the most relaxed, comfortable, and just great place we have been. Worth the drive!
If I could leave more stars I would.
If you get to go hear you will not regret it.

My wife and I take a vacation this time of year before we become swamped with work also to celebrate our anniversary. We have totally enjoyed ourselves more than any other resort we have been to. The staff is very friendly always with smile. The food is great and for the dinners its more than enough, delicious food. The breakfast is great as well as lunch those are little lighter with fresh options without putting you to sleep! Lol. Blaney. and Steve run a tight ship here. I have to say if you're looking for a peaceful get away to unplug and enjoy nature at its finest, clear your mind from the everyday grind then this is the place you need! I could watch the Segal's all day they are fun to watch. The mascot Pete is a great bird, and he will let you know when he is hungry. Thanks Steve and Blaney from a great experience!!

Peaceful, relaxing, nudist getaway.
This was a perfect vacation for us. Steve and Blaney were excellent hosts. This is a small, quiet, nudist resort which we had been looking to go to for some time and we were not disappointed. The food and drinks were really good, and the meal plan is a great value. We used the kayaks, paddleboards, and went swimming. The bungalow we stayed in was neat and clean.
