Incredibly kind, patient and understanding hosts. I was going through an extremely turbulent personal crisis and was very emotional and Shannan was kind, patient, understanding and empathetic. She went out of her way to help me the best she could. Truly indebted to her. Thank you.

Perfect spot for Honeymooners and families with small children! We stayed 3 nights, 4 adults in at Paniolo. Although this wasn’t the most ideal for more than 2 adult, everyone in our group had a great time and the overall experience from start to finish was top tier for a small, family-run bed & breakfast.

Where do I begin? From the initial outreach email to Shannan to confirm some things about the B&B for my mom, to my phone call to book Duke’s Cottage only to find out both she and Josh were also from Colorado. It was the most wonderful experience and vacation for my mom and I. I almost don’t want to share how amazing it was to be able to keep this slice of paradise to those in the know! The accommodations were exactly as described in the photos. What you don’t know upfront is how comfy the beds are, how delicious the breakfasts can be and how breathtaking the views are on their property. While we unfortunately never got to meet Shannan in person, Josh was always there in the morning to greet us with a smile, fresh coffee and seriously the best biscuits and gravy we’ve ever had! The location was conveniently close to my brother’s farm and the temps were ideal and cooler than those typically found in the touristy parts of Wailea, Kihei and Ka’anapali. I will definitely be back in the next year to show my boyfriend how magical Maui is and cannot wait to stay with you all again. Mahalo!

Wow, where to start! We stayed at Shannan and Josh’s North Shore Lookout for 4 days on our honeymoon and it was incredible. The place is peaceful, relaxing and immaculate. Josh made us fantastic smoothies and coffee along with a delicious breakfast every morning and we felt spoilt! The room was private and everything we needed, but the communal areas were fantastic and allowed us to chat to folks and find all the good places to explore. Mahalo Shannan and Josh for an amazing stay.

The grounds and view were beautiful and the Makani suite was just as described. The drive to Makawao was relatively short and there plenty of places to eat there. This is a great location for upcountry exploring. Breakfast was great as well! I would recommend to anyone.

We had an absolute amazing experience ! The previous reviews and the high ratings of this place are fully deserved. Overall, the room was very clean with a fridge, sink, and plenty of space. The bathroom was enormous with a rain shower and plenty of room for 2:). It was also really nice that they provided beach towels and beach chairs for use! The pool and hot tub, the commons area, the chairs and hammocks— all of it was perfect! Breakfast was really tasty, the smoothies and lattes were great. Overall, the hosts are really at the top of their game. Book this NOW before it sells out to someone with more sense :). Great central location minutes to beaches and close as you can get to Haleakala (make sure to check out sunrise or sunset there). Can’t wait to come back

Stayed here for 4 nights as part of our baby moon. We had a wonderful time tucked into this serene setting up the mountain with beautiful scenery and great stargazing. We stayed in the Hoku room which was very clean and comfortable with lots of seating options indoors and out. They were really great about providing extra pillows so I could sleep more comfortably at 6 months pregnant. The included breakfast was always delicious and the staff were always such warm hosts. With only a few other guest rooms, we pretty much always had the pool and hot tub to ourselves. We were a very short drive from a beautiful forest to hike through and excellent dinners at Marlow and Thai Mee Up food truck. Also very close to Makawao town where there’s a lot of great shops and restaurants. Cannot recommend this spot enough if you’re looking for a special experience a little away from the resorts by the beach.

Unbeatable Airbnb experience! This place is in the heart of the island, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The room is spotless and well-equipped with essentials like kitchen towels and beach chairs. The staff and owner are welcoming, and Shanner's breakfast is not only delicious but also quite fancy. The entire stay was nothing short of extraordinary!(I wanna share photos to show how great the view and breakfast are but Airbnb doesn’t let me.🤷)

My husband and I had a wonderful stay here in the Hoku suite. It was spotless and spacious with a great private outdoor space. We loved our mornings having breakfast and coffee on the main patio (and with Josh always so welcoming and engaging, offering great tips for our plans for the day ahead). The area was quiet and beautiful and a perfect spot to head out for your days exploring the road to Hana and Haleakalā. We definitely hope to be back!

We made our reservations months in advance of our stay in late October. When the fires hit Maui we reached out to be sure we could/should still come. North Shore Lookout was very clear they were open and ready to welcome us. And we are so glad we did! 30 years ago we stayed on Maui for our honeymoon in Lahaina. Had no idea what the up country of Maui was. This time we had a whole new experience. Not only to experience Maui away from all the tourist hustle but the North Shore Lookout was so much better than any hotel or condo. From the easy check-in with a welcome basket to the clean, beautiful room. Each morning the coffee drinks made to order including Expresso or latte and the delicious breakfasts was just perfect. The pool and tranquil grounds were just so wonderful to come back to after spending time exploring other areas of the island. Close to so many things to do from hiking to beaches. If we make it back again we would not even consider anywhere else to stay. Thank you for a lovely stay!

We had the absolut best time at North Shore Lookout! The moment we arrived, we just felt completely calm and relaxed. The place itself is just stunning. You have the outdoor area almost to yourself with a gorgeous view over the ocean. The location was perfect to explore the area nearby. We did some hikes, went to the beach but also visited some historic cities. The airbnb itself had everything we needed and even more. Thanks for this wonderful welcome basket, the varied breakfast, the many tips and of course thanks for having us! We can only recommend staying there.

1 Star As many already know, the chance to visit Hawaii can be a once in a lifetime opportunity. My girlfriend and I were scheduled to stay at Maui’s North Shore Lookout in October. We have dreamed of visiting Hawaii for years and made the decision to stay here. We booked months in advance (May) to secure our spot and were eagerly counting down the days until our arrival. In August, deadly wildfires raged across Maui. This included the upcountry, where Maui’s North Shore Lookout is located. The governments of Canada and the United States both advised travelers to avoid the area and consider cancelling trips to the island. We made the decision to cancel our vacation after consulting with friends and family, following the news, and advice from our government. We were able to cancel everything except our stay at Maui’s North Shore Lookout. Maui’s North Shore Lookout has a cancellation policy of 60 days prior to your arrival. We made the decision to cancel but were too late… merely hours past the deadline. We had hoped that a mutual understanding or exception could be made by the owners. We had thought wrong. Our experience was an absolute nightmare. Emails unanswered for days and phone calls with messages never returned. We never received communications from Maui’s North Shore Lookout regarding their situation until AFTER we had emailed. Our request to cancel was dodged at every opportunity. When my girlfriend was able to get someone on the phone, she was given a verbal agreement to cancel the reservation in full. Unfortunately, (days later) it was reversed because we didn’t give enough notice. So where does this leave us? We lost our initial deposit (which is half the total cost of the stay) due to a situation beyond anyone’s control. We tried to do the right thing by cancelling. We booked under a completely different set of circumstances and just want out. I don’t think visiting at this time is remotely appropriate. If Maui’s North Shore Lookout won’t work with you in a situation like this, then will they ever? Unacceptable customer service from a business that remained fully operational the entire time. We wanted to support locals, but after this experience it may be safer to stay with bigger chains so that you are better protected during your stay in the event of the unexpected. I do not recommend Maui’s North Shore Lookout as a travel destination.

Michael, we are very sorry you were upset about the lack of communication. Our area was without power and internet for several days into over a week because of the upcountry fire. It was extremely difficult as we were also involved in the animal rescue and housing many of the west side residence. Our business was closed at one point. Additionally we did offer you a reschedule option that you refused. We were unable to refund guests outside of the cancelation policy we were only able to allow credits and rescheduled. We are sorry you felt the need to write a bad review. The big hotels as well as the airlines were all following the same policy to credit or schedule guests. As you were staying in October the time line that far out was to follow that policy. As you may already know the west side is reopening in October so that is why we could not refund. We are very sorry you are not happy about that and again we did make sure to email all guests about the situation as soon as we did have power and wifi. I see in our email chain that you did receive those updates and you were offered a credit voucher. Again we apologize for the delay in our response as we were also effected by the upcountry fire.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights on our honeymoon and loved it! The views are amazing during breakfast and watching the sunset. The property is very well thought out with multiple areas to sit and relax. The rooms are also very clean and updated. I would highly recommend staying here, you wont regret it!
