In August 2021 My IT Works (Glen and his team) installed a solar system comprising of 12 JA Solar 495W Mono Perc Half-cell Panels (6 per MPPT), Sunsynk 8kW Hybrid Inverter and a Pylontech US3000C battery. The neat installation took 2 days to complete and there were no glitches on start-up. The component supplier was reluctant to supply only a single battery but as we were only interested in bridging the 2-hour loadshedding period while using only the bare essential appliances and gadgets we didn't feel additional batteries were necessary. Fortunately, Glen managed persuade the supplier to supply what we felt suited our requirements. This setup worked well for us until the municipality decided to replace the analogue meter with a Smart version which records consumption as well as feed-in. There is no facility to submit the feed-in reading via the municipal app and the meter reader also doesn't have column on the capture sheet for this item. In order to make better use of the self-generated power we decided to discharge the battery to 50% overnight leaving sufficient capacity to bridge any loadshedding outages, however, we were still feeding more into the grid than we were consuming and receiving no compensation. In order to reduce the imbalance, we added 2 batteries which increased the storage capacity to 10.5 kWh and set the discharge limit to 40%. We could go lower but run the risk of running out of power when we have an extended power outage during unfavourable weather conditions. Since installation we have never been in the dark which is thanks to Glen who has always been on hand to guide and support us on our solar journey. Much appreciated Glen and your team. Our daughter and family also extend their thanks - Glen and his team installed a similarly spec'd system however with 10 panels in September of the same year with excellent results.
