I have just had my first experience of fly fishing under the expert tuition of Jim Wilson. Moorhen fishery is absolutely beautiful and run by an amazing, welcoming and knowledgeable team. I had the most fantastic day and cannot recommend the both the venue and Jim highly enough.

Our ladies fly fishing group frequently fish at Moorhen, such a friendly and welcoming venue. A cuppa and a smile are always waiting on arrival, to go with whatever homemade cake is packed with the fishing gear, and we love the relaxed atmosphere. Three of us on this occasion, and a very enthusiastic 'little one' who was a delight to watch as he started his fly fishing journey. The cafe offer is perfect for a day's fishing experience, a fish finger butty is a must, although, we are partial to a bacon sandwich too. Moorhen is great for those starting out on their fly fishing journey, and also offers a challenge for even the most experienced fisherman. The care and passion taken by Michelle, Jamie, Holly and Karis is evident to any visitor. This is a real Hampshire Jewel and not to be missed.

I was fortunate to have a fly fishing experience at moorhen. My teacher, jim was first class and very knowledgeable and helpful. The whole team at moorhen are extremely friendly and welcoming particularly to newbies like my self. The fish unfortunately didn’t play ball as the weather was very hot. However the very tasty bacon sarnies and tea were very welcome. I would highly recommend to any newbies. Thanks

Heaven is a place called Moorhen Trout Fishery I've been fishing since I was a young lad, and I can honestly say that Moorhen Trout Fishery is by far the friendliest and best fishery in Hampshire, if not the entire country. Jamie, Michelle, Holly and Carys are some of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. They genuinely care about the welfare of the fish and go above and beyond to make sure every angler has a great day on the water. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and their passion for the fishery shines through in everything they do. The fishery itself is beautifully maintained, peaceful, and a pleasure to fish. Whether you're a regular angler or visiting for the first time, you're always made to feel welcome. If heaven is a place on earth, then this is it.

What a beautiful place! My husband and I booked a fly-fishing lesson as complete beginners, and I honestly wasn't sure it would be something I'd enjoy. That changed the moment we arrived. The owners were so welcoming, friendly, and helpful, making us feel right at home. A special mention to Jim, who patiently guided us through every step of the experience. His knowledge, encouragement, and great sense of humour made learning both easy and enjoyable. Before long, I was completely hooked—pun intended! Whether you're an experienced fly fisher or have never picked up a rod before, I can't recommend this place highly enough. A fantastic experience in a stunning setting, and one we'll definitely remember.

Fantastic lesson and experience. Booked this after a couple of lessons at other places. Liked the price for the amount of time and also the fact that they were willing to tailor the lesson. The day itself exceeded all expectations. The team on site were really friendly and first question on arrival was tea or coffee, which was a good start. Jim was the instructor and he was really good. Started with the basics as you’d expect but then tailored it to my needs. Don’t think I’m good, I’m not but Jim changed his explanations to help me get what he was saying and worked on my weaknesses. I learned a lot ins few short hours. I’d never understood what a turnover really meant or what a roll cast really was but now I do and I know how it feels when you do it right. Lots more practice needed but I know where I’ll be doing it. Thanks Jim and everyone for a great day.

Went to moorhen fishery with my dad, what a beautiful day I had . The staff are wonderful , so helpful and couldn't do enough. They other anglers would give you alot of advise if your new. We hired a tutorial and we had a guy called Jim. Fantastic guy and certainly gave me the knowledge to be able to fish . If you dont catch your fish you pay for moorhen honor your fish and let you come bk . I will definitely be going back . What a beautiful experience 😍.

A great fly fishing venue with fantastic instruction One of my long-held ambitions has been to learn fly fishing, and today I finally took my first lesson at Moorhen Trout Fishery—what a fantastic experience it turned out to be. I had booked an introductory session and was fortunate to be taught by Mr. Jim Wilson. His instruction was exemplary; nothing was ever too much trouble for him to explain, and his patience made all the difference. We began with the basics of casting before progressing to roll casting, haul and double haul casting. What initially felt like a real challenge soon became an absolute joy. Although the lesson was scheduled for four hours, the experience was so engaging that we ended up spending most of the day together, trying out new techniques at different spots around the lake. Despite having driven past Moorhen Trout Fishery many times over the years, I’m so glad I finally took the opportunity to visit. The setting is beautiful, with a lovely lake surrounded by the Hampshire countryside. The club itself is incredibly welcoming, with a friendly atmosphere that makes you feel instantly part of the fly fishing community. I’m already looking forward to returning next week—and for many weeks to come. I would highly recommend Moorhen Trout Fishery to both experienced anglers and complete beginners like myself, and I strongly encourage anyone interested to give Claris a call and take lessons with Jim.

First time at this fishery today and my son and I had a fab time. Very welcoming staff and an amazing service from them. The fishing was tough at times but left with 4 amazing fish and some epic battles to land them. We’ll definitely be back.
