All staffs hold proper knowledge of the products that they are selling and spend time with you to understand your need and accordingly they provide you unbiased suggestions which I think most of other shops are lagging behind. Others are busy in making profit only not much focused on customer satisfaction. And of course all are well behaved and approachable! Must visit for one stop solution!
Honest Review: MicroCentre India (CR Avenue Branch, Kolkata)
I recently had my PC custom-built at MicroCentre India’s second branch located at 4, CR Avenue, beside Hindustan Building PO, Kolkata, and here’s a thorough review of my experience — covering both positives and drawbacks.
✅ What I Liked:
Polite and Responsive Staff:
The salespersons at this branch are quite courteous and helpful. I had reached out with a few queries online before visiting the store, and I was pleasantly surprised by their prompt responses. Their support extends beyond in-store interactions.
Well-Trained Technicians:
The PC-building technicians were equally professional. They were polite and seemed well-versed in handling various builds. Despite some hiccups (which I’ll get into shortly), the assembly process itself was smooth once it began.
⚠️ Drawbacks and Issues Faced:
Overpriced Compared to Competitors:
The primary downside of MicroCentre India is their pricing. Shops nearby in Chandni Chowk, such as Vedant Computers, MD Computers, etc., offer the same components at noticeably lower prices. In my case, the difference ranged between 5–15% depending on the component.
Amazon Prices vs MicroCentre Prices:
When I compared prices with Amazon, the gap widened even more — CPUs, GPUs, RAMs, SSDs, and most components were cheaper on Amazon by up to 15%. When I brought this up, the staff amusingly claimed that Amazon sells refurbished products, which I found quite misleading. Their only real advantage over online shopping is the on-spot PC assembly service, but even that comes at a premium.
Hidden Payment Charges:
If you plan to pay by credit/debit card, be ready to pay an additional 2% POS surcharge, unless you have a Rupay card. Otherwise, your only options are cash or UPI/bank transfer to avoid the fee. This isn’t ideal, especially for high-value purchases.
Unprofessional Oversight During Assembly:
A major issue I faced was with component compatibility. They provided a mATX cabinet that couldn't accommodate my 3-fan OC GPU, forcing me to switch to a larger ATX cabinet on the spot. This exceeded my budget and broke the original quotation, which is quite unprofessional considering their years of experience.
Limited Assembly Capacity:
The second branch (CR Avenue) has only one engineer, which caused significant delays. If you’re not first in line, you might have to wait up to 6 hours just for your build — definitely not ideal if you're short on time.
🔚 Final Verdict:
MicroCentre India (CR Avenue branch) is a decent PC build shop with helpful staff and technically sound engineers, but their pricing strategy, misleading claims, and some logistical oversights hold them back. If you're someone who values customer interaction and on-site assembly, this shop might work for you. But if you're on a tight budget or prefer transparent pricing, you might be better off exploring Vedant, MD Computers, or Amazon.
