Zach, Ricky and Marshall moved us to our new apartment in Brooklyn and were absolutely fantastic. They were communicative, friendly, professional, and ridiculously efficient. They were also genuinely great dudes who were a pleasure to work with and made what could have been a stressful day easy and calm. Would 110% recommend to anyone looking for an easy and reasonably priced move in Brooklyn - you’ll be in good hands!
I hired Metropolis for a move and paid for packing and unpacking services because I'm recovering from an injury. The hourly packing/unpacking and flat-rate moving tasks ended up being mixed together, which seemed to result in a final cost significantly higher than the original quote, even though no inventory changes occurred.
The packing and unpacking felt disorganized and chaotic. I had clearly requested that my bike equipment be kept separate and left packed due to my injury and the risk of losing small parts, but this request was not followed, which added significant time. My bike trainer was also placed precariously on top of an AC unit without any padding, and I now need to inspect it for damage, which is tricky due to my injury, and concerning given the cost and difficulty of repairing it.
Many everyday items were unpacked onto high shelves that I cannot easily reach, and much of the unpacking remains incomplete or needs to be redone.
Additional issues included significant AC water spilled on wood floors after towels were packed (and no other floor protection put down) and items left behind without my approval, which I had to manage myself.
Overall, the move felt disorganized and fell short of professional moving expectations.
ETA: Regarding the stairs: before the move, I had emailed the company, “I’m unsure if the service entrance at the new building will involve stairs — if we could please leave the related price adjustment for that as TBD when we’re there.”
At the actual move-in, it turned out the building has a service ramp, so there were no stairs involved. Charging an additional stair fee at the new building would have been inaccurate.

I find your post deeply disappointing.
Though I was skeptical from the beginning, I still offered every fair option to rectify your supposed “claims.” You denied them all, posted this 1-star review, then said to me only a $200-300 refund would resolve your “issues.” Once we paid it ONLY THEN would you update your review. To be clear, your only "issue" was a claimed bad experience. No damages, no losses.
We are a small company who executed the duties you hired us for in a fair and transparent way. To be clear: YOU ARE EXTORTING US.
The issues you brought up are either highly exaggerated or completely fabricated. The movers on your team, whom I know very well, went out of their way to make sure you had a great move. If they did something you did not agree with but you lacked the willpower to correct them in real time after they asked you several times throughout the move if you were satisfied, then I believe your expectations for your move simply were outside of reality. You must use your words; the movers cannot read your mind.
Re: your quote. Every hourly quote comes with clear caveats. Your move could go longer or shorter based on all sorts of variables. So that means during an hourly priced move if the job goes longer you would be paying more. Simple. This was made clear to you in numerous emails. Based on your final charges the job went roughly 1 hour over estimated time. That’s more than 90% accuracy on the estimate. Hardly an egregious misquoting.
At this point I am not interested in “resolving” any of your “issues.”
However, I am genuinely sorry for any actual mistakes our moving team may have made. Though I’m starting to wonder if we made any.
But, I am more sorry for the movers who called me, the same movers who packed, moved, and unpacked you within 13 hours, who called me after reading your 1-star review with genuine confusion and concern. They were sad, thought they did something wrong. You see, they work hard and take pride in their work. Those professionals are named and are represented in 100's of other 5-star reviews we've received. They are a core part of what makes our company great. And I believe in them.

PS - Do you remember those additional stairs at your drop-off that you mentioned, that you were concerned would increase the move cost? Did you notice we never charged for those? It's because the move team was already making great time, and the movers signaled to me that they didn't think it was worth charging extra because they wanted to keep the customer as happy as she already seemed to be.
PPS - Service Ramps in place of stairs indicate a "long walk" scenario as explained in POINT 2 of the Terms & Conditions you signed on November 9th. Regardless, we did not reinforce this charge out of goodwill.

Adam and Zach of Metropolis Moving were a true blessing for our out-of-state move!! My partner and I were leaving a small tenement studio we shared and had so many boxes in the way that we weren't able to finish packing or properly prepare for movers. I was moving from Williamsburg to Bushwick and Chris and Jonathan were awesome. Super efficient from point A to point B, and everything arrived safely. The price was fair and the team was transparent before the movers arrived, so there were no unexpected surprises.
