This is an austere restaurant that is in its early days of operation, and we wish them all the best for the future. These comments are designed to be helpful. No doubt it will develop an 'atmosphere' in the coming months. Food wise the menu is limited, very cheap and very basic with not description of what the curries and other dishes contain other than lamb, beef, chicken, etc. (Unfortunately, there was no lamb on the night we visited). A better description of what constituted each dish would help. The curries we had were absolutely delicious but the chicken biryani not so much. I'm not sure what meat was used in the butter chicken but it certainly didn't seem like chicken - more pork like texture. Still eatable though with a great gravy. There is one criticism I will make. It was disappointing to find a big chunk of gristle in the beef curry. Quality control is needed here. I believe more dishes will be added in the future which will help.

If you are craving authentic Kerala flavours, this is the place to be. The food is delicious and prepared with genuine care. Every dish feels like a taste of home—rich, flavourful, and true to tradition. Prices are very reasonable, making it a great value for the quality you get. What really sets Malabar Magic apart is the warmth in their service—everything is served with love, and you can feel it. I left with a happy heart and a full plate—can’t wait to bring friends next time. Highly recommended.

Robin is a dedicated chef who is passionate about his craft. He offers authentic South Indian delicacies, which are quite rare in Canberra. ‘Malabar Magic’ is definitely a must-try!

Our family had an amazing meal at Malabar Magic! Every dish was cooked with care and tasted incredibly fresh. The beef and porotta were absolutely delicious — soft porotta with well-marinated beef that melted in the mouth. The biryani was flavourful and beautifully layered, and the noodles were a big hit with everyone, especially the kids. What made the experience even better was the excellent customer service. The staff were friendly, polite, and checked on us regularly to ensure everything was perfect. A wonderful place for a relaxed family meal with authentic Kerala food!

Please don’t fall for the reviews of their friends gang guys! We bought biriyani, kerala parotta, beef fry as takeaway. First of all, they didn’t feel fresh at all. The food is below standard and probably a scam aiming at cheating westerns with fake-authentic Kerala recipes! We called the restaurant to talk about this and get something else just in case Chef was having a bad day or so. However, the lady who picked the call was very dismissive and arrogant. She said go and do a review online if you don’t like the food. Here we go then! We threw everything to the bin and ordered much better food from La Monsoon woden instead. Never recommending or never visiting this scam Kerala restaurant ever again!
