I have a wood burning fireplace and go through a half a cord of firewood each season. Several years ago I had another local company come clean and inspect my chimney. I Was told that I needed a $13k chimney liner if I wanted to safely use my fireplace. While I am very proactive about maintenance and upkeep I was a bit skeptical.
This year I decided to use Lou Curley for a cleaning and see what he told me. They were on time, cleaned and inspected my chimney. I was told that there were some cracks and flaws, which were clearly visible, and if deteriorated further would need attention, but nothing catastrophic requiring a new liner at this time. Lou told me "Use some anti-creosote spray and get cleaned each year."
I have become jaded as every time someone comes to my home for any service I am being upsold. It was incredibly refreshing not to be upsold.
I look forward to having Lou come out each year for an annual cleaning. If at some point I need more work done I am comfortable I am getting an honest assessment and not just an upsell.
